the first class is the worst class allways skip the first one. this is what we do with new students. 1- we start with a complete warm up following with lots of punch/block in kiba dachi, then we go for 100 push ups on seikens as soon as we finish that we start white belt killer 500 sit up routine. 2- we continue by teaching them Naihanchi Shodan and since their double block looks like wiper blade move we laugh at them a lot 3-We make them spar with rest of the class, we have all the protective gears on ,they get a 8oz gi. 4- we wash/dry them for the next class but this is only our school. about wado ryu i would say ,it is a very good style. soft blocks and good combination of karate and jijutsu. i actually learnt the falling techniques in a wado ryu school as part of their basic. you will have fun.

i thought i was the only one with 3 years exp. in white belt.after 3 years he gave me a brown and told me that he needed my white belt for somebody else.

THE Ryuei-version of Anan is different from Shito-ryu and Shindo jinen ryu,"tommarker" post a link above which shows shindo jinen ryu version since konishi learnt this kata from Mabuni his version should be very close to shito ryu. the most elegent one belong to Ryuei-ryu, as "searcher" said before you can see his version in https://www.wonder-okinawa.jp under Ryuei-ryu katas just remember it's a short version some parts are deleted from middle section. and welcome to KF

i just wanna talk about running, don't count by mile go by time ,run slow and at least 45min, after 30 min your body will start to burn fat, but again watch your heart rate, too fast will switch to burning suager and is less effective if you wanna lose weight. watch your calories, stay with 2500-3k any day you work out, other days 1500.

it's "Hey, paL" quality is low but it's lots of katas ,i just paid $5 for it i guess, somebody still selling it on ebay.

shorin ryuu, oh yah, he is one of the best i've ever met, he is mostly into white crane karate, i've started to adjust me shorin ryu katas to his way and also started Hohen Soken series of white crane katas. he is a student of Sensei lindsey but he got all his shorin ranks from Sensei Perry, he is a Godan in both systems. sensei Deborah Keller will stop teaching since the dojo is closeing down and Sensei Ray Keller,i guess you know about him allready.

for kyozai kata PM "Master Jules" he is Goju ryu stylist, about wansu what version you looking for? since it is not a part of chibana lineage i think. about yakusoku i should tell you Sensei Nakazato is a big fan of it. you gotta learn them the best you can, when we practice these kumites the next day most of the class can't move.

Hengest, I understand exactly what you mean, i have no problem with that what i am saying is that, to be a winner ,pre-emptive attack is "A" answer, actualy "A" very good way but not "the" answer. since there is a defensive counter attack strategy that can works as well, i am agree in most cases a pre-emptive attacker may have a better chance but still it is a "most" not "all". i can see some people get this totally wrong they think about moral/legal issues but it is not about this kind of stuff , you are already at the middle of the fight we just talking about the approches we can take to subdo the opponent or simply to be offensive and the winner or defensive and the winner. that was my original intention about this thread, I am gonna thank Cross and Hengest for their posts, I think this is a time for us to move on, this is getting out of hand with some of our friends comeing to express their ideas without reading all the posts since it's just too long.

I am very intrested in white belt so any where I go I have my white belt with me ready to jump in , I have been around karate for many years ,my motivation? Bruce lee movies and my father’s gi(I always wanted to take over his gi). I’ve been lucky that I have had lots of friends in martial arts and practiced in their dojos on and off , officially these are my ranks Shodan TKD 1st kyu Shotokan 1st kyu shorin ryu 4th kyu shindo jinen ryu 8th kyu BJJ and you can’t be a Iranian and not to be a good wrestler. trained but never been ranked in kyukoshin, judo and wado ryu. I’ve been told to wear a black belt in shorin but I refused, my sensei is not into belt system that much after 3 years as white belt one day he gave me a brown belt and I guess now he can’t find a black belt in his closet and I have no problem stay in brown for many years until he finds one. In shindo jinen ryu they gave me a red belt after six months and I was politely asked not to change their katas’ pace I did by leaving their dojo. So far I enjoy shorin ryu with interpretation and execution of my new sensei.

pendakarshihan1, you are right , this thread is off the topic now what i meant to discuse was a comparision between attacking strategy and counter attackers, otherwise obviously an attacker also defend and counter attacker also attack. as far as the test cross mentioned we did it and i was able to counter attack very good more than %75 of times, but later we did another test this time a full contact sparr with my sensei he was supose to only counter attack then i was supose to counter attack only in the second half, as my sensei successfully manged to counter attack over all my attacks ,I was not successfull in stoping his fast combinations and in no time i was bloody all over. so as cross mentioned before skill is also important me and my sensei are both counter attackers but i saw the difference he landed at leat 10-15 clean shot in my face while i only managed one. i one counter attack he also after blocking my punch hold my gi and kicked me in the neck with his shin. i was also able to shin kick him in the rib under his attacking arm once. so far i think you can be either attacker or counter attacker and successfull too.

Your greatest achievement in the martial arts?
P.A.L replied to 1kickKO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
my bigest achivement was to reach my fingers to the floor while my knees were locked. in 2005 the best so far is one clean punch to my seneis face although he calls it a lucky punch. -
Sensei, that's right, i supose to practice weapons on Mondays since i hate weapons i got sick and came back home directly then i felt better and start to fool around in the threads.but i still think with a good lawyer she has a good chance with emotional suffering

Shorin Ryuu, so you mean itosu passai sho is Bassai sho itosu passai dai = shorin passai sho = Bassai dai of course not exactly ,if you forget about stances rest of the kata is almost the same. I have seen matsumura no passai is close to kobayashi passai dai. do you know why most of the styles just droped this kata (bassai sho ), do you know if Mabuni lineage (shito ryu) practice this kata?

1- kiais in the version i know are at the side kick as you said and at the 3rd Morote-zuki in the other end right before 2 goofy Sagurite. 2- they are goofy and the trade mark of all passai or bassai 3- i really like to know where this kata comes from, what is the history behind bassai sho, as we know bassai dai is a off shoot of Itosu no passai or passai sho in shuri-te but bassai sho has nothing to do with any other shorin passai or may be i am not aware of that, so please come in and give us some info on bassai sho.

1-We have 7 Yakusoku (pre arranged kumite) we use it mostly for timeing and body conditioning it can get pretty rough and you get used to absorbe some punches. 2- 3 step kumite, attacker comes in with 3 techniques on his choice like a kick,a punch ,a kick, the defender can slide back one or two steps but gotta accept the last one and fight it back. 3- first 2 practice that "Cross" mentioned then there are some tactics we follow you may find them right or wrong, like 1-We try not to step back ,we slide back 2- We try not step in ,we slide in 3- we try to turn opposite to the strong hand of opponent(rear hand) 4- we try to block punch with same hand in one move and over their hand 5- we kick low some rules for full contact friendly matches use glove and head gear and foot cover. 1- no kick to joints/groin 2- we let the opponet to recover from kick to the head 3- we stop chasing if 2-3 hit landed since in real fight 2-3 landed punch with bare hand is more than enough 4- let the fight go to the ground but stand up as quick as you can 5- don't apply chockes ,you can do locks. 6- try to make it longer and longer every time 7- allways have the mentality that a sparr is a lesson try to learn and discuse the tactices with your friend. I think if you have a good friend you can workout with , don't wory about the class sparring. although point karate is fun and you can see the karate techniques in it.but full contact gives you a better idea about real fights and you may find it more like boxing than karate.
