  1. my forum bodies thaiboxerken and shane I am agree and disagree with some parts of your posts, but from other hand there is no absolute right or wrong in this subject and we wont be able to convince each other so I am gonna have to stop. nfl2k2 I forgot greeting you, sorry. Welcome to the forum.
  2. what you need is probebly 12oz gi, which looks good and feel good. now about Tokaido , a friend of mine ordered a special belt 4 months ago , he is still waiting.
  3. Kata or Form is a back bone to any martial art, without form you will end up to muai thai or kickboxing, if you are looking at martial art as a long way to for rest of your life need a basic style , kickboxing or MT are good as long as your young and fast ,what you gonna do at 60-70's , the value of kata is here ,you learn the technique through kata and you can do it at your pace. there is a long history and meaning behind it which is called Bunkai(application). 70 years ago ,students of goju ryu had to practice "Sanchin"(breathing/body conditioning kata) for at least one year. now if you like to spar from begining you can go with Kyukoshin karate which is a semi-full contact(no glove, no punch to head, no hit on groin, no joint). When I said goju ryu is solid, I meant the root and history of goju ryu is so deep that nobody can make fun of it but fools. depend on your school after some times they let you to spar with control like punch with open hand not with seikens just to give you sense of timming and distancing. I think self defence is part of karate or anyself other martial art and you will learn it sooner or later. take care.

    Hard choice

i'd go Wado it covers more
  5. if we divide the original karate into two major group one from Naha area other from shuri/tomari area in okinawa, Goju ryu is a main part of Naha-te . it is a very solid style and you won't regret spending your time with them. about UFC ,sorry I don't wanna get into that.
  6. Mr. Kicks, We can run fast too.
  7. My sensei is a jujitsu/karate Master (sensei Craig) and front snap kick is one of the main drills we do on makiwara. as he allways says it can stop an attack. same about the punch fist should be closed in all time of makiwara drills, although the body goes from lose to hard. Go- Ju what I didn't like was refusing his application no matter what ,they could let him in at least provisional.

  10. thaiboxerken wrote;"Ninjutsu is silly................. ...... fought in black pajamas." here we go, problem is solved. did you know many of Ninjitsu schools offer "young ninjas sleep over nights" for parents who don't wanna get a baby sitter.
  11. anybody knows a Ryuei-ryu sensei around Texas? I'd like to learn "Anan" in this style, thanks.
  12. kung Fu is the best, have you watched the jet li's movie "Hero".
  13. I was hoping someone has knowledge (or pictures) of the old way of doing this in Okinawa. In some pictures it seems to be a short obi that goes from back to front and there is no need to cross two times.
  14. bleach , NOT a good idea.!
  15. The reason I asked was an incident happened to me, out of no where my Jap. Style sensei told me this is a lousy way of putting belt on, and started to correct it for me like I don’t know how to do it, I told him that with all do respect some of the styles do cross over then he got angry and said” how many years I lived and tripped to Japan?” “I have never seen cross over, may be some American but not here” but anyway he is a great man and I apologized later for being a lousy karate-ka
  16. Also in particular , how they’ve been doing this in Okinawa? I have a Kenshinkai sensei who cross over the belt. Do you know any other styles?
  17. the funniest answer was from Kyokushin , total 31
  18. what do you think of drinking beer and chat after class inside dojo.(of course after adult class 10PM)
  19. I have the same problem with my shorin sensei and others in class ,they talk too much ,sometimes I start to work out may be they stop but it seems they don't get it, just keep chating right at the middle of time, and sensei, he is the worst of them. on the other hand in sensei Darell Craig dojo , he is even sensetive about the way we stand, and I love it, we can give some short funy comments during the class but that's about it.
  20. Shorin ryuu, yes they are close, I also have seen some old footage of funakoshi's dojo , they had similar drills too.
  21. I just meant, you didn’t need that extra paragraph , We know it, or at least most of us agree with you that there is not much to do in this kind of situation. take care.
  22. 1-Welcome 2-Sumo
  23. Imagine after one year training you take these guys to a full contact match. TKD vs Kyukushin --> 1 to 9 TKD vs Muai tai --> 0 to 10 TKD vs shotokan --> 3 to 7 TKD vs shorin or Goju -->2 to 8 TKD vs BJJ or JJ --> 0 to 10 Not because of techniques , it because of rules they trained under. For example Matsui is a well known kyukoshin-ka he got knock down 2 times against an opponent who was hitting him in the face and he was not able to stop him, finally referee stopped the fight and disqualified the opponent but the reality is that kyukoshin fighters can’t protect their face against punches as good as MuaiTai fighters do, why, because in kyukoshin you won’t get point by punching into the face of opponent. Same in TKD ,thats why they stand side way because of pointing rules but it’s not gonna work in a full contact match. If you don’t believe me lets hire 100 guys and see.
  24. I was checking on matsubayashi shorin ryu , they have 7 drills, and pretty fun to practice. you can find them in his book.
  25. Rick said,"And i didn't even throw a punch - i'd like to see ANYONE defend themselves against something like that, cos i sure as hell couldn't. " if this make you happy so be it. I love your post, you just gave another answer to 47MM. and this happens for best of us(look at capital letters in ANYONE), you just couldn't let it go , you had to establish something about your power/skill/expertise in martial art , but you didn’t have to . what you said ,we already know.
