My instructor Larry Naranjo doesen't mention the names very well on it. Nor does Tony Sandoval from what I heard. He goes more by American type names. Depends on who he teaches. He doesn't go into the Japense or Chinesee names for it. He will talk about Body change, or rising energy, sinking energy, rooting energy and many more ideas. So I don't quite understand what your talking about. -Jeff -

IF you knock the guy out and he falls to the ground that works as a really good take down for the street. -Jeff -
Stances, In a fight your moving more. Stances are used as a training tool to build balance, weight distribution and if your moving in the stance application of weight. For example moving into crain position or bringing the knee up. Used as a tool for balance for begginers on one leg as well as chambering the knee. Also later on movign into that postion used in several grappling moves. Megaton Diez does a throw were he brings one of his knee's up as he throws. It helps bring up the base or transfer more weight into that throw. Same with certain wrist locks and joint locks to move the person it can help pick up your weight ot move them. As for cat stance, say you have one leg foward and you pull back to cat you can use the pull on back on teh lead foot that helps genrate power from the legs to propel the body weight forward little bit adding more body weight when you hit. Making your hit harder. -Jeff

go do research off the net. Easy way to do it. Also go through yellow pages of your phone book look through that then do research on the styles. Find something that interests you. Meet diffrent instructors see which place you feel most comfortable at and feel like you can get the best learning from. -Jeff

I believe the same that Bruce Lee would fair well. His natrual abilities. HIs problem solving abilities. He isn't stuck inside a box. He explores other aventues. He picks up moves fairly quickly. He can disect oppoents very well. Given around the age he died. If he was 32 or so now. He would have done veyr well. He was the one of the first few who worked on Mixed Martial arts. His conditioning is outstanding, speed, and power generation and accurcercy are awesome. He would be undefeated especially in now's UFC's were they have weight clasess. HOw much did he way 135lbs or so? -Jeff

I know a couple that are good at it. -Jeff

why whats teh diffrence. I felt just as strong with stetch cord training as I did with weights if not more so. Do that the cords work the tendons more gets you that holding strength and works really well. Also plyometrics and calistincs. -Jeff

Crane

I understand that. Lot of diffrent styles have diffrent names for a example a punch. But still its the same thing. I know there is tons of concepts. Inside hitting one and there are many points or I mean concepts that go into just doing Inside hitting itself. -Jeff -
Tension in the hand because you will feel it tight or slight resistance. Depends on your sensitvity or how you develop it. That only comes from practice. Mainly need a partner to tap out not be macho and get him self hurt. Also practice slow and first fast moves can cause loss of control and you end up breakigun the persons joint. So go slow. Remember changes angles on a joint. Some people are double jointed for example so a certain way you do a wrist lock for example they have more flexiblity in there wrists for being double jointed. Change angles and tension level and that can solve that equation really quick. -Jeff

disadvantages of passive blocking
jeffrogers replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
close guard I like better. As for restricing my vision not really I don't keep my hands on my face. I can see that restricing your vision but having them an inch away or so doesn't. And if you are going to get blind sided in the street. You don't have your guard up any way its usually a suprise attack if you will get jumped so to speak. -jeff -
I pefer bungie type cord training. Works the tendons a bit more as well as the muscle. Tendon strengh gets you a bit more stronger in holding postioins and such I think. I have a video of Rickson doing that type of training in his garage. What is really cool is seeing his son Rockson and Helio Gracie rolling around. I believe Rockson was 12 or 13 around there and Helio early 80's. That old man can MOVE! Also plyometric drills work very well also. -Jeff

I want to start jujitsu
jeffrogers replied to Smiler's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
There is a a big diffrence. Most JJJ Schools don't focus on the ground work as much as BJJ. Thats up to the practioner what he likes better standing jiu-jitsu or Ground work. Granted BJJ does both more emphasis on the ground side though. JJJ does both to some degree but alot more emphasis on standing subs. So I aksed to see what the guy is doing. -Jeff -

Its a joke! But you said you can post pic's. You mean on a thread or in your post post a pic or talking about he photo icon area. -Jeff -
Karatekid1975, Exactly what I was thinking. Its that you share that same passion for something. People meet each other and find things in common. But when two people meet and share the same "passion" its whole deeper conection I think. You crack me up monkeygirl You want to work on ground fighting? Just kidding Besides karatekid1975 is there other people on her who have a partner who is into a diffrent martial art then your own? If so do you ever end up arguing or debating about diffrences and what you think is better. -Jeff

Even if you aren't moviing bot stationery you can be swepted depends on the angle of how he sweeps. No stance leaves you strong in a 360 degrees. -Jeff

took me about around 5 years to get mine. If you have prior extensive experience in another art. You may get it in a year or two in some other art. Depends on how you train. Average student trains 3 times a week. For an hour or so each session. Put more time in it and reps and make your stuff work. You can get it alot quicker. -Jeff

actually begginers running around stores I seen grown men or least guys in there 20's doint that practing with each other during albertsons. That was sad! As well as seeing some intermediate and advance belts running there mouths. Alot of people say this and that. Look at some of George Dillman's students. I heard one guy mention he was barred from the UFC because of his pressupre point work. *. Oh well! -Jeff

Most of those violent slams are in wreslting. Youth no how to do it if they train in it. As for the Jiu-JItsu part You have to be trained some what in it to make it work. As for youth watching it how old you talking about Teens. Shoot! far more stuff on television that is more violent then UFC/Pride. boxing is on television. WWF is on television. They already do stuff on that. The show * is on television. -Jeff
