jeffrogers replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
actually they all had roots and conected to training some what with Bushi Matsumura. He is considered by many a far geater master. Choki Motobu was bad mofo. -Jeff -
Here is one reason why MMA guys make fun of TMA guys. Well here is several reasons. 1. Silly claims of Dimak with out any supporting evidence. 2. Your ability to talk about your awesome skills and how you would easily waste so opponent. But you are so spirtual or reached your Zen states that you can not fight as its against your code of honor. (So basically your inability to back your claims or what we call. Put up or shut up. This you can't do. so you get made fun of) 3. You don't see MMA guys Running around Albertson or local grocery store doing shoots on each other taking the person down and armbarring them. Or you don't see any Grapplers doing flying arm bars and saying how they can beat every one on earth. How ever you will see a couple pathetic guys in there early 20's. Some times also mid and late 20's in there Kung fu or Karate outfits, doing there silly techniques on each other. Saying how they will be so and so with x technique. Then saying they are awesome fighters and start talking about the cool "point fighting tournment they won" (Ohhh scary!) I mean there is a time a place for things. But in your uniform resprenting your respective arts and talking *. and doing silly moves on each other in Public estatablishment is defienlty not one of them. That is all. -Jeff

Funny thing is what is secret to one is just common since or or not really secret but basic practice for another that they have been practing every day and are good at they then have gain more knowlege that is over the head of the other. Is it secret not really its how the human body works but so many people confine themselves with certain limits. -Jeff

Gracie's revolutinized martial arts. There "Gracie Challange" even though sounds very egotical on the outside is good though. they show they are willing to go against other martial artist of diffrent arts and they do. Back then the ground game wasn't even focused on. Wreslters had the best chances with them. Even then they got subed do to lack of sub knowlege and defense for them. Now its really diffrent. UFC yeah is about money. But also it revoluntized martial arts. -Jeff

Well, it doesn't have to be pretty...it just has to work. YEAH IT WORKS ALRIGHT!!!!!! that is one style were I just will ge far far away. -Jeff -
yeah I would have to agree with Neil. He shotguned the correct to death. that domination is a big factor. It excites the man. Kind of like taming the shroo (sp?) sort of thing. lol! So ladies what qualities you find diffrent that you like comapred to a Martial artist as aposed to other guys or guys that do other sprots or activties. -Jeff

Yep especailly on drug factors I heard of Geroge Dillman talking about pressure points he teaches law enforement officals about how to deal with people on drugs. But reality of actually doing that with some one moving and such to me seems very difficult.

Me personaly I don't believe in style as much as the concepts. Its up to me to find the right application. Reps and cordination is the key. -Jeff -

Plus the dicipline to stict with something and do things you don't want to be are good for you can carry over to other aspects of your life such as grades or work or what not. Martial arts has many benefits. There are drills or techinques you may not like but are good for you and make you over all better fighter and better your cordination over all. You carry that with you to other aspects of your life. Same thinking aplies. You may not like particular assingment but you drive and dig in and accoplish that mission and then move on. You just got to present the material or what you want do to him right. So you can influnce him to get you to take it. Drink water and drive on! Hooah! -Jeff -
I know what your refering to. But look at Keith Hakney he striked to the groin. The karate people either didn't train in it. Or just didn't do it. Be suprised when you get that adrinline dump and people who aren't used to ring fighting or fighting in general they just go out and brawl. Which is pretty much what happend with the people in the 1st 3 UFC's. Except for the grapplers who are used to competing and the kick boxers. -Jeff

Also becareful of the parents. Get to ladys or people in general. I have noticed this when I taught at my instructors school. They will talk bad about the prices or that they showed this or that. They just liked to bitch about stuff. But it brings down the moral of the school and other parents around listening to them. Besides if they go down the road the other school who teaches the same style. Is more expensive, less quality teaching and programs to offer. So again they wanted to bitch. Parents can be some of the hardest to deal with if your teaching children. -Jeff

Actually men do shave there legs. Some shave there whole body'sbring out there muscle definetion better. Body builders shave because for the same reasons makes them look better. Swimmers shave. so men do shave. -Jeff

Actually you have your points. We can take pride for example were Vanderli Silva did quite some damange with a Knee to his opponents head. When his opponent was on the ground on all fours. Were before it wasn't allowed. So that gave him an advantage also made the grapplers more aware of positioning because what before was against the rules and so it was safe is now dangerous to go to. So less rules would give strikers more of an advantage. But not much. Pretty much first few UFC's there were few rules. Except you couldn't eye gouge or bite. You could still go to the groin and do alot of other moves. So in reality those fighters only hope was biting or eye gouging because the rest of there techniques were ineffective other wise they would have made them work. -Jeff
