i apologise if you think i was showing disrespect though even though i am sixteen years of age, it doesnt mean that i dont know what respect is, i have been studying martial arts for about 3 years even though i am in premature stage i do know what the rules of respect are in martial arts. i would appreciate if you didnt use my age to discredit my amount of knowledge in martial arts ad

now hold on, yes i might get similar stuff taught at home rather than going all the way to china, but whether it would just as good i would sincerely doubt it. i am planning to go to one of the most infamous shaolin training academy on this earth, and the training has followed near perfection. Training in the USA will not give me the knowledge or as deep understanding which i would likely to recieve from a chinese school, also i would imagine training in the wudan mountains is a far more exhillarating experience that training in a dojo in texas.

Henry South seems to not be training in the authentic Shaolin Temple, i however want to train in the real thing. I thing the real school is situated in Dengfeng but forgive me if am wrong. I am currently enquiring still into this journey and i am concerned to what the accomodation will be like and ecspecially the language communication, i would imagine it would be difficult in the real shoalin temple

hey all, ive recently been thinking of going to China to train in the Shaolin temple for one of there 4-8 weeks schemes. i dont really have much knowledge ot whats its going to be like but i do know that communication will be little and that the training will be tough. I am a commited martial artist though so i would think that the training will be an enlightening experience for me. Anyways do any of you know anything about the trainining in Shaolin temple and whether it would actually be a good idea to actually go and train there or not. If anyone of you has any information about it, it would be most helpful to me Ad

ct i am ready to use weights i have been doing crunches, pull ups and press ups for the past 3 years
-
hey, yeah thanx for the advice but kickchick, i mentioned that i dont have a bench, so then i wont be able to do the method you suggested for the crunches for the method you suggested for abs and back, do you mean that i need to actually tilt my body weight forward whilst my stomach muscles are tight? and also when bending with the oblique excercise, do you need to actually twist your body like when you need to work the left or right side when you do crunches? sos its just that i have trouble understanding excercises i guess
-
do any of you know of any excercises where by you can build your stomach muscles, upper back and lower back muscles by just using dumbells. if so please reply, but the excercises you give must not include the use of a bench since i dont have one cheers ad

yo, since were on the topic of pectorials sos to change the sort of topic but what are the ideal sort of press ups to work your pecs the most?, is it better to do double shoulder width press ups, so its like normal press ups, but you extend your arm horisontally twice as much but dont move them vertically or is it better to do the normal ones to work em better?
-
i can see from what both Jack, Kickchick and other members have said there have been a variety of different ways to approach this problem, some methods suggested by a member seem to be condemned by another so i am still weary to what final decision i should take. i will not undergo any excercises until an answer is produced which is agreed generally by all members keep the suggestions commni

hey thanx for the advice kick chick, some of the methods that you mentioned seemed slightly more than what i expected and i never knew that it was such a wide problem. Though i will actually try to some excercises to buff the weaker muscle up, if that doesnt work i will do some those excercises you mentioned cheers
-
hey thnx for the advice, and since it is the christmas sales, i shouldnt have problems buying some dumb bells for a good price also when doing those dumb bell bench press ups you mentioned, wouldnt you just need the one, and lets say to the maximum you can do on the weaker side, and let that be the amount you do on the stronger one.

hey all the subject of this topic might sound kinda strange, but its actually true for me. The only excercise i do to build up my pecs are press ups, ive been doing them for sometime know, i always make sure that when i go down in a press up, i go up in a central position and not leaning to any one side. Over time i have noticed that my left pec is considerably larger and more defined than the right. Is this because i am left handed, and so more effort is put on the left hand and thus leading to the left pec being more defined??
-
yeah safe jack, though its still early days so i will see how things go hope you and other members is having a good christmas

hey all hey jack it nice to know i got some people who know what is like to just turn 16 you mentioned several types of food to maintain a suitable diet when doing weight lifting, i feel that buy eating those types of foods and using the low weight high reps mentioned by kick chick i could reach my goals.
-
i understand that weight lifting increases your metabolic rate meaning you will burn fat more, so if i weight lift only moderately, should i expect to loose weight?
-
hey all as i am nearly approaching 16, i feel now is the time, after many careful conversations with members here and people elsewhere that it is safe to weight lift. This is great news to me though i have some what been put of weight lifting for several reasons. I really want to do weight lifting for power and toning of muscles. Yes i do want to look better, though i am not that vain and still want power from weight lifting. I have had trouble acheiving the desirable figure which i wanted by simply doing press ups and crunches, so i hoped to use weight lifting to help me acheive that body. When i weight lift, i will take no protein supplements or weight gain products as i do not want to increase in muscle mass, but to be more toned, so one of my questions is "will i be able to have a more toned body, but not increase in weight if i weight lift?" , as a martial artist, big huge bulging muscles isnt helpful, and excess wieght isnt helpful either. Also i wish to increase the power in the punches, kicks, and increase the speed of my reflexes, i wish to be able to do more press ups if i do bench press-ups. My second question would be "will weight lifting give me more power"? I know this is a long winding post, but i hope you can help me thnx ad

bad things about being a martial artist
ad replied to Molson style's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
the problem is that non-martial artists dont understand the difference between reasonable force and excessive force - ive been in alot of trouble in past incidents where non-martials thought i was too excessive when defending myself -
those are some interesting questions which you posed freestyler i admit i am one of those people who sometimes just dont go to class and if you read my other post about being three months delayed then i guess u know the punishment i had to pay. there were times where the weather was just so bad or wether i was too tired or just simply couldnt be bothered but i took a new view, just go and train at a regular basis, just dont question why you go, what you will get out if it and whether you bothered or not, JUST GO, its as simple as that, if you cant find a reason why u should go, the reason will come back to you, dont question yourself - just train, simple really.

Starting Chinese Boxing
ad replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
i do chinese kickboxing, and i find it very similar to normal style american kickboxing, though some of the syllabus is very similar to external kung fu therefore i would imagine chines boxing to be very traditionally orientated with a combination of western boxing, i would say it would 60 % western boxing and 40% kung fu
