  1. Hey all ive been doing semi-contact kickboxing for about 3 years now, and more and more i become tempted to start get involved in full contact sparring. The only problem is that i do not know where to start, or what to expect. I have the feeling that my instructor will be somewhat reluctant and opposed for me getting into something competitive as he focuses so much on street self defense, and i certainly dont blame him. Ive also been told that it is possibly something that i perhaps couldnt handle or might find too "rough". at being young and being more inexperienced than others, perhaps maybe there right. I just thought if any of you are having the same dilemma as me, or are an active full contact kickboxer, whether you could give me information on where i should start. Thnx Ad
  2. thought machiner does obviously have its benefits, liken ensuring asymmetrical muscle build up when using a smith machine in comparison to a standard bench press.
  3. heck tibby, these new excercises come at a cost in terms of buying the so called advanced formula machinery, im going to stick with my bench.
  4. how come flat bench press isnt rated highly anymore?
  5. dont get me wrong, i dont just do incline, decline and flat bench. I do a variety of press ups at different routines, but in terms of access to other types of weight pecotrial excercies, i am not able to those since i do not have the access to a gym. So you are saying that i shouldnt just focus on simply doing all three at one workout?
  6. As many of you know there a three main types of weight excercises to build up the pectorial muscle, being the incline, decline and flat bench press. I primarily only used flat bench press in the past 2 years, and noticed and increase in the lower and outward part of the pectorial muscle. Recently i started to combine all three and notice that the considerable increase devloped from the flat press was reduced and now a more flat rounded shape all over my pecs has developed. My query is that is it recommended that all types of bench press should be included in a weight work out?, im only really using the excercises for toning and martial art practacality, so therefore i am not using heavy weights. But isnt just simple flat bench press good enough?
  7. hey, again thanx for the advice. Ive seemed to have been using my punch bag at off and on times in the past few months, i would think that once i start to train more, and concentrating on body movement and form i should see a more stable and powerful delivery from the uppercut
  8. yeah thanx for advice, i will try to shadow box and i will try to use my body and knees rather more arm. But you mention to keep the fist near fist face height, as if uppercutting to the face. I am actually more interested in uppercutting the the body and ribs. in which case the uppercut needs to be close to the ribs and abs than the face which you suggested
  9. hey all ive always had this problem, that whenever training with a partner using focus pads or using a heavy punch bag, uppercuts just never seem to come out right, i always tend to curl and bend my wrist inwards, when i do them which i know thyey have the added risk of me breaking it if i go in too hard. I try to exaggerate the straight wrist motion to avoid bending it but the uppercut just doesnt come out write with no sense of power or delivery. This seems to be a particualr problem with my weaker right hand. Is there any advice or recommendations that i should take into account in order to perfect the uppercut?
  10. it best not to do one handed specified excercises, ie one handed pull ups or press ups. The reason for this is that we all have a stronger hand, and it is likely that you will choose the desired hand to do those excercies with. This puts excess strain on shoulders and forearms on a particular side and will disrupt the overall balance in the body. I speak of experience with the one handed press ups. In reality they arent that helpful, unless you want to show off.
  11. well i am 16 and my growth spurt has just finished so you could be on to something
  12. so ideally your saying that the traditional open handed press ups causes hypertension causes the wrist pains that im saying? very well ive started to do more knuckle press ups and accepted your advice as it does seem logical
  13. goju1 i have made sure, and rest assure that i have, that i always make sure my press ups technique is near perfect meaning im keeping my wrists striaght all the time when they are open handed
  14. you mention that you have done more press ups then anyone on this earth but you have never experienced any pain at all, my instructor similiarly said the same thing, is this just an age thing or what>?
  15. i always thought though that if you do alot of resistant excercises such as press ups then infact the wrist will in fact become stronger in stead of showing signs of weakness like with me
  16. yeah thanx for the advice, and to grrarg, have you noticed that the wrist pains have eased down after you started to do the knuckle press ups.?
  17. hey iama_chick, im only playin and messing about, i hope you didnt take any offence to what i said.
  18. so being shot 9 times is awesome ? i guess i never understood teen crushes
  19. well when you mean minature dumbells? do you mean just very little in weight??? i have 5-10 pound weight dumbells, could they be used?
  20. i always use wrist wraps for use on a bag but i never use them whilst doing press ups
  21. hey all, i remember approxiamately three years back when i was getting serious into my martial art training that my school instructor teacher was telling a pe class, (which i was in), the negatives from push ups. He was telling them how doctors have found that repeated repetitions of normal shoulder push ups for a long period of time can lead to wrist problems and general weakness in the bones. He said that idealy press ups should be done with a closed fist, (like knuckle press ups, but using all knuckles) to minimise any harm to the wrist. Still young and naive at that age i took no notice and was shocked to learn about this, my sifu strongly disregarded what my teacher said and i ignorantly continued doing open handed press ups. Three years later i think now that i should have listened to that old teacher, as there are signs of pain and weakening in my wrists when doing press ups and using a heavy bag. My form for press ups are near perfect and have never been criticised and i always try to strengthen them. Why have my wrists started to weaken when idealy press ups are supposed to strengthen your wrists?, also have any of you suffered from this problem? Your input would be most appreciated ad
  22. i would suggest not getting weights and soley stick to press ups, crunches and pull ups, stretching and focusing on martial art techniques. i feel that when i started to do weights i only benefited with a lack of focus on training, hurting bones, and just depending on weightlifting to acheive my desired body and loosing focus on martial art training consider yourself lucky that you havent started weights yet, but hey that just my dismal view, if you dont like what ive said then pay no attention.
  23. hey thanx for the info, what particularly interested me was that you mentioned the inasanto academy, that would be something of great intrest to me, so if you knew the internet site for it could you please write it down or tell us cheers ad
