  1. At there time the masters had it right, now the masters of today have the right skills to deal with todays society, the masters of old had to deal with bandits, samurai, horse back and they had little in means of weapons other than farming tools, today we have to deal with armed terrorists, gangs, guns and such. I think the strictness of the training in the old days could be put to good use in the dojos today, more breaking, hitting the body with medicine balls and boards, and balance training on poles getting smacked in the legs, putting the old methods to use with todays techs would be very efficient i believe
  2. once you reach the rank of black belt you have only started to train in the martial arts, usually that is the physical level and creating in the right state of mind so that you are now able to learn the true secrets of the arts
  3. my wife isnt into the martial arts too much, no where close to as much as me....well i told her when we got married that martial arts was my life, so if she wanted me she had to except me for who i was, a martial artist, and what i do, martial arts and lots of training. So she doesn't have a problem with it, i go to the dojo and she works out near by in the gym, we both work out at the same time and area yet not in the same rooms, the current dojo is located in a large military gym complex
  4. i think that you should only train up to the belt rank below what you currently hold, that is because that is the last test that you have successfully completed and moved on from if you teach someone to the same level as yourself, you can not guide them on further......i think that testing should be held infront of several black belt members.
  5. proper foot work and stances are a key element to standing, getting momentum for strikes and balance, it should always be practiced with your training you don't want to be the guy that throws a big punch, misses and falls down b/c he had a bad stance, you don't want to kick and fall b/c the other foot wasn't planted well, key element if you are doing stand up fighting, very very important
  6. i am working on a "book" which actually consists of several books that make up a library...these books are about everything that i know about MA, over the years, and all the styles that i have studied, so therefore this is taking me a very long time...it will take me several more years to complete where i am now at my current knowledge, so some day many many years from now there will be this great collection of martial arts knowledge and i many will look at it as greatness, unfortunately by the time it becomes that famous i will be long dead and forgotten.......
  7. actually TKD is a traditional art persay, yet not the art that everyone knows of as a sport art with flashy kicks there is another MA with the same name, TKD, that didn't evolve into a sport and stayed very combat oriented, so there are two types of TKD in the world today yet few ever see the combative one.....sad
  8. don';t feel bad i am a heavy sweater too yet only when training do i NOT get embarrased to have puddles, just tell the others that you are training harder than they are and the sweat is your proof, may not be true, but it may lighten the situation...
  9. try https://www.discountmartialarts.com
  10. Joe Thug is experienced at his game, he is comfortable in street fights, that is his dojo, he fights for keeps and and does not practice lighter contact, it is always full contact for him, he is used to fighting real fights so he can control his fear and flow of adrenaline and use it to his benefit. Most martial artists don't train in street fights, it is usually in the dojo , a controled area, the martial artist may have some experience on the streets, yet not all of it is street fights, also joe thug knows from experience what moves work in the streets, he doesn't turn his back and he doesn't do flashy kicks, he is aggressive and beats on you until you are out, he doesn;t stop or show mercy, these are weaknesses to him, consider these factors when confronting joe, remember to calculate them in to the threat level!
  11. i was thinking of the good ol' days of the UFC, where there were no weight classes, if he got hit by one of those guys i think it would ;have been over, plus you have to consider how much martial arts has evolved since his day, he started a craze then martial artist took what was good and mixed it to make it better....keep this in mind, he would have done well but not have won, after the first UFC though he would start to train differently, by the time the next rolled around who knows what he would have done, but after a few times i think that he would be a top contender, he would just need the practice of the actual UFC matches to use as reference for his future trainings.
  12. also try to hind any type of hybrid system
  13. take some motrin or another type of anti-inflamatory medication. it is nice to see people that speak multiple languages....aaaaaaaa Ima ju-ichi ji gozen desu. konbanwa son las once en el noche. Buenas noches mis amigos de las artes marciales. Practice mucho duro. Hasta mañana.
  14. mcdojo, my advise is run and hide, and if possible smack the instructors that are trying to steal your money, or you can give me their information and i can see what i can do about getting them investigated on their credentials and the authentisity of them, which may result in their school being shut down. I encourage you to look into some other schools in your area, your daughter may find another school that she likes, where she can actually learn something and earn a black belt, or if she wants a black belt real bad, just go to ebay, you can find anything there and i am sure that it will save you money
  15. i can knock down a business card from a few inches away, and also blow out candles....from a few inches away... i can also move the pages in the book that i am reading by waving my hand....a few inches away....now i think that i am just generating a minor current of air due to me swinging my arm at a certain angle or speed.....further away i can only move these things with a fan or if i throw something.....i do lots of breaking techniques to include, wood, concrete and ice, does any of this qualify me to a million dollars??? oh yeah, i almost forgot i hit a guy with a ki punch after reading that site and the guy blew up, the the shock wave killed the 2 guys behind him....that was until i learned how to control it of course, now i create my ki flame shield and my mastery of levitation and fly through buidings knocking down everything in my path and due to the ki shield i am bullet proof, the military now uses me to hunt down terrorists by sensing them with my ki powers yet of course this is all hush hush so don't tell everyone, and when i find them, i just give them my mastered ki ball,......the kamehameha wave!!!!
  16. i think those are two different things one is an internal universal energy that takes work to learn how to sense and feel and even more work to control and focus, the twisting the hips sounds like pivoting to me, so that is just adding extra power by means of momentum to your attack. This is if i understood what you are trying to say.
  17. good words major motoko, as a judge though i would have to disagree with grrarg....if you kiai on every move, i am going to think that you forgot where your actual kiais were in the kata, and therefore you will get penalized, one think that i have started to do after watching a fellow black belt compete and show us his kata, is on every move like motoko said do a silent kiai, yet make a noise as you let the air escape your mouth, this wont be a loud kia, yet you still will get the effects of the breathing, kind of like when you are doing breaks, also this will make it obvious when you actually kia to the judges on where your kias are.
  18. he was good, but i don't think he would do to well over all in the UFC, it just wasn't his style,.....granted he had the experience and all ....i think he would do ok, yet he wouldn't be the overall winner
  19. was that provided by the iraqi information manager? that was pretty funny!
  20. thanks TKDLady, i can't wait to start my own dojo, right now i use the gyms and beach and stuff
  21. I have noticed over the years, by just looking at someone and observing their movements and how they perform you can see some of their potential and talent, this can be before they even start to train. You can sit at a restaurant and observe people as they walk by, you can see the ones that have some training, some that walk with attention to detail and are cautious, the ones that are graceful and others that are just sloppy and clumbsy that have no skill and some that it would take alot of work to get them any skill due to low level of attention spans.
  22. check your private messages, i sent you info on TKD
  23. nice point kyle-san, along with everyone else, it is good to keep your mouth shut, if you would like offer and apology this will show that you are humble and admit to making mistakes whether you agree with this new testing or not, the thing is that you are in another school so therefore you should follow the ways of that instructor, also train yourself and make yourself the best like ninjanurse said earlier. I would agree that that is a short testing yet, just keep your mouth shut, do what you are told and do it right, that is about all you can do.
  24. The art of dim mak and vital points consist of these areas where touches with various amounts of pressure can cause injury to death. As for touches that cause latent death and sickness, I have only read about these and have never experienced them myself. If it is true i would like to study that also, I am only familiar with killing strikes.
