GRR! A martial artists nightmare!
granmasterchen replied to Beer-monster's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
look for some friends to practise with....get some friends involved and see if you all want to make a trek to another class together sometime to check it out, save up some money by cutting grass or something and get a bus ticket, or hike to a class, that is fun to do and it also shows your dedication to the arts, hopefully the class isn't too far away.... but i would try to train with friends and work what you can, set up some boards with rope wrapped aroundit or get a sand bag and use these for punching bags....there are many things you can do, just put your mind to it. -
the shins are a very sensitive area, using your momentum and the area that made the block, knee, you managed to get some good impact there....over all you should be fine, granted it hurts and will for a little while, the bruising is normal and you may even end up with a lump on your shin that will be there for awhile.....take some motrin or imuprofin, some type of anti inflamatory and as soon as you can bear the pain hop back to training!

i recall hearing that they dipped their hands into some type of liquid....don;t remember what it was or the purpose, it might have been to strengthen their hands and knuckles so they wouldn't break as easily. Back in the old days when they did that, turn of the century 1900s and late 1800s i think, they would have matches that were literally over 100 rounds, also the majority of the boxers of the time were from England, I think that it might have been something to do with a status and class of life styles back then.

What's middle-America's problem with MA?!
granmasterchen replied to Fenris-wolf's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
many people are interested, and impressed when you show them some demos....yet there still seems to be those that think it is all about getting in the "crane stance" from karate kid and making alot of silly noises...many don't really understand too much about it.....but it is becoming more widely accepted today. -
What are you working on now?
granmasterchen replied to tommarker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i am just working on my book still....which i will be working on for the rest of my life....yet, come sunday evening(monday morning) i will be going to mnt fuji for a nice inspirational time to reflect and relax and maybe add some new things to my book, maybe find some people to train with on the summit in the nice air that is thin .....with little oxygen, it sould be a great training time! I have always enjoyed the idea of going into the mnts and training in the thin air , but i have never been to a mnt that was this tall, it will be fun!....sorry for rambling.... -
someone just mentioned that one to me a day or two ago hehehe

well i like the backfist and use it alot....one of my favorite moves when i sparred him i didnt hit him hard just a quick snap to his temple to let him know that i could have hit him hard and hurt him.... after that little match he banned me from his school and all of his classes then the majority of the students came to me to further their training as for the effectiveness of the backfist....i have been in fights that only lasted one punch, a nice backfist to the temple, granted it is dangerous, yet it ended the fight and i feel the situation was necessary for it, yet the fact is that the backfist is not useless, but it is not the best either, it is just another great tech to add to your arsenal.....does everyone agree with that?????

The 2nd greatest martial artist of all time!
granmasterchen replied to Rich_2k3's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I agree what would make him number one would be the way the world now sees martial arts due to bruce lee making it popular in the western world, chuck norris is great as is jacki chan, jet li and many others, I also greatly respect miyamoto musashi, he was the man back in his day...yet through out time there are different icons of all fighters, at our time I think we would have to look at the tv and use all the big names that we see.... -
i have been doing it for years, if you are only bursting the capilaries and the occasional blood vessel you shouldn't have a thing to worry about. I haven't had any circulatory problems and i have been hitting things hard, bursting blood vessels , internal bleeding(bruising) the hands , breaking knuckles and such for close to 20 years...so i wouldn't worry if i were you

TKD??
granmasterchen replied to Shotokan_Fighter's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
well i am a long time practitioner of TKD i have also written research papers on it there are two mahor types of TKD one is the sport based art that emphasis high and flashy kicks the other is a hybrid system that combines many of the arts into one yet still focuses on the combat element.... the first also based on the combat but over years it developed into dances and such and became a sport in an effort to keep the style alive, so you have the sport and you have the actual art, today many only see the sport, the combat one is only practised by a select few through out the world... if you would like the whole paper, story or more info please feel free to PM me -
yeah, the subject, its been so long.....what was it again? Thanks Radok!

MA short- gain more students for my classes, hold some demos, make more martial arts friends here on the base and organise a large demo and tournement with all the styles and instructors to help promote martial arts on the base. long- study any martial art that I have not had a chance to study yet in my career. Build my own dojo where ever i end up residing after my time over seas and with the military. LIFE short- get a better job so i can make more money long- save up a lot of money, and travel even more than i already do

it depends on the individual back in the day when i was training hard..... run 2- 7 miles with 2 fifty pound sand bags, one on each shoulder, i would run into the hills and into the forest at the top of the hill i would find a tree and connect one of the bags of sand to a branch with some rope and use it as a punching and kicking bag...beat on it until your hands and feet are pretty beat in.....truely depends on the individual, i would condition my fists and knuckles..... i would also do 1500 sit ups a day, usually divided up in 2 sets and around 500 push ups, i would also have my partners in training beat me with 2x4s 100 times on all my muscles, arms. calves, upper arms, shoulders, chest, stomach, thighs, back and neck, i would also swim year round and build a tolerance to the cold, work kicks, strikes, katas and self defenses over and over, i would spar and grapple a lot too this was the major emphasis on my training...which we spent hours on.....now my training consisted of working out all day, so if you have school or a job it would be impossible to do the same that i did, yet you can get some ideas from this

I go to the floor,.....that is 180....i have not put my feet up on chairs to try and go lower,.....i am happy with the floor....i don't need to kick at a greater angle than that, i think if i did i would have too much momentum and fall over backwards!

i once smashed my finger in a garage door, with similar nail problems, it stayed the way it was for awhile, got black in some spots (from the blood on the inside of the nail) and after awhile it finally fell off, but then started to frow back normally, i am sure that you will be fine, you may want to cover it to prevent any other damage, but good luck with it

The truth about the whole KI story...
granmasterchen replied to isakowski's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
what would you say it takes to break bricks then? is it shear muscle? I have seen little kids do this, believe me they can't normally crush a can of soda. i doubt that i can blow out candles through a window, seeing as how i rely on the wind from my strikes, but hey i will try it for you. I can sense the presence of someone behind me, not tell what you are wearing, if you are around me, i can usually tell what you are thinking about, yet this can also be going off of facial expressians, posture and other nonverbal forms of communication, i am not a sci fi channel mcmaster....but i will guess .....a pink tu tu now as for stopping my blood flow, i received a nice wound a few years ago, where i had a piece of metal go completely through my foot, blood was squirting out everywhere, and i had lost over a pint or two of blood, i elvate my leg and relaxed and concentrated on the wound and the blood, and it stopped bleeding, i think this counts for something. if you need stories of people ripping off car doors look on line under adrenaline, i am sure that you will find several stories along with psychological and physiological proof to show how it works and as far as i am concerned a way to control these hormones in the brain and body and therefore compare it to chi/ki/qi, but this is only my view you can still disagree with it. who said that we had to defy physics? I think that all of these things are possible and therefore under the laws of physics, i am not on another world where we breathe liquid sulfur and walk on the ground that revolves around our head due to our own generated gravity pull.....those go against our laws of physics on our world.... -
Just a question
granmasterchen replied to RagingNinja's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
as long as your friend is not teaching you katas, i wouldn't worry about it, karate and TKD are similar in their methods both are stand up striking styles, so i would work with my friend, but make sure that he is only teaching you moves and such, no kata yet, and then go to the dojo for TKD -
and they all lived happily ever after!

yes i am , i pray for peace and all, yet i also ask for the strength and skill to deal with any situation until there is peace. .......may sound odd but the way i look at it, it gets really indepth and would take forever to even attempt to explain it....

well lets just leave it at that then, I would hate to see another thread get closed for name calling, so as long as everyone understands each other and we can all agree to disagree, then lets be happy and move on. Thanks for the discussion.
