  1. one thing that scares me is, the fact that i train hard to be the best, what would happen if i went crazy one day, ...i think that would be scary, i am glad that i have no mental problems though....lets hope none of us develope any either
  2. try mountain dew if you want energy.....but the sound of a nice margarita and a pool sure brings back nice memories,......hmmm a break would be nice for awhile, not from martial arts but from work......
  3. century, the same gi top that i have had for all the years that i have trained since i received it, it has been torn so much and has had so many holes,strings torn off and plus all the times that i have sewn it up again and again it looks more tatteren than my black belt, strings hanging and all,.even the writing on the tag for size and such has worn off....it looks sad, but i will not trade it in or get a new one, it has symbolic meaning to me, the best tears and such are from sparring matches with my instructor, I wear it with pride!---it really doesn't look THAT bad.....or maybe that is just me, having feelings for my poor gi top.....it's ok gi, it's ok, i won't let the mean people make fun of you...what's that....you want me to beat them up?...ok....just for you....... now the pants are a different matter...i have went through so many different pairs, i tend to tear out the crotch alot, embarrasing every time, i don't even know the brand on it.....
  4. do you have a formal or informal relationship with your instructor, i am on an informal relationship with my main instructor, we hang out and stuff when i go back home, so i would give the inscription, but that is because i am on more open terms with him than i am with other instructors and their students

  6. also one handed push ups put your legs up on a chair or bed, so that you are getting more vertical 10 count push ups, go down, holding yourself about 1 inch above the ground for the count of 1 then go up and back down for the count of 1..2 then the next to the count of 3 .1....2...3 all the way up to 10 this gets fun up in the higher numbers, then you can start counting backwards once you get to ten , or you can continue to increase the number to 15 or 20 count, after awhile though you will get tired. wide grip, close grip, finger tips, two finger and thumbs of each hand, one finger and one thumb of each hand , knuckle, standing up with legs agains the wall, rotate from left to right when going down on wide grip push ups,bend elbows out to the side, or keep the elbow to your side, one handed with 2 fingers and thumb, one hand one finger and thumb,

  8. i, through my own experiences of using ki/chi, believe that anything is possibel, i can do breaks with no difficulty through generating my chi, i can also sense others around me, and can sometimes feel what others are thinking, i can control my pain, blow out candles from a few inches away, stop my blood flow from having a serious injury, slow my heart rate and other little things like giving myself power, if i can do this, and i know that more can be achieved, who is to say that you can't keep building on that, if a woman can rip the door off of a car while her child is stuck inside what is stoping some one from picking up the car, i think that the only think that holds us back is our own mental barriers that tell us this is impossible. My example is a martial arts class that was taught here in Japan a few years ago, the class was all given a sheet of paper, then another held out a wooden chop stick in front of the student, the student was then required to break the chop stick with the piece of paper, all the adults failed, the paper flopped arounded and wouldn't even stay straight to hit the chop stick, yet every single child in the class was able to keep the sheet of paper perfectly straight and slice the chop stick in half, the reason is that for the adults and older children the concept was impossible in their minds, yet the little and younger children didn't know better so they performed it over and over with out difficulty and found the adults to be silly and humorous.

  10. other than that i have had my nose broken 23 times, hyper extended elbows, sprained wrists, and chipped teeth, that is all i can think of right off the top of my head
  11. i was teaching a friend some TKD, stand up fighting, and he was teaching me grappling. Well I was doing a round house back round house, where after the first kick you drop down on the top of the foot and then jump and deliver the other roundhouse....well when i dropped down on the ball of my foot, i was off a little on the angle and popped the joint of my big toe out the side of my foot......it was pretty painfull, but i continued to spar and when i went to the hospital they said it was fine, a year later at a specialist he told me what had really happened and how it healed rather badly and now causes problems due to the fact that the joint is pushed out further on the side of the foot now.,.....
  12. have you looked at other schools in your area? take a look at some of the classes, stop by and talk to instructors but don't get baited into a mcdojo, PM when you find out some more info and I will try to help you out,
  13. the low kicks to the thighs are nice to learn as with blocking those kicks properly also elbows, knees and such are fun little things
  14. the more practice you have the more comfortable with higher kicks will become, i recommend practice your right and left sides equally, you may even want to do more with your weak side to try and make it stronger to compete with your right i will not say what to do with your shins, that is a personal choice, i have lost alot of nerve feeling in my shins, yet for years it hurt.....plus i don't know what will happen to me later in life, so the choice is yours, practice low kicks,they are quicker, do kicks to the thigh, work your knees, elbows, and head butts too

  16. i have to agree with saifightsms, an individual that receives a black belt and then quits is not a true martial artist, a martial artist is a person that trains for life, it is a way of life not a hobby, you can practise martial arts or you can be a martial artist, just like i can study the bible or i can be a Christian, I can play baseball or be a baseball player, i can watch cnn or be a member of congress, there is a large difference from practicing, reading, studying, quitting and living a certain thing, ideal, or religion.
  17. Thanks to reading the thread "my sensai" , by Fireka, I came up with this idea. I am thinking that we can all help each other by promoting our styles If you are an instructor place your name and a way for others to contact you for information on your style. Also if you would speak to your instructors, maybe they would also agree to the idea of this thought on promoting your school to other martial artsist. If you could just list names of instructors that you have learned under. If possible , with their permission, also leave a way to contact them for questions and information on styles that they teach. Tim Moore -many styles studied and teaches a mixed styles/ hybrid form of combat related martial arts along with being an assistant instructor in Kaju Kenbo and Tae Kwon Do Tim Byers- mantis and tiger kung fu Tom Smith- hybrid style of TKD, KSW,TSD,and many others Tom Folley- TKD, and a from of kung fu Jeff Smith- TKD Eileen Folley-TKD Ed McKey- kung fu Ron Jared- multiple styles, TKD, karate Melissa Blower- TKD Tavin Weeda- TKD JoJo Button- karate, tkd Nathan Rudibaugh- hybrid TKD, kaju kenbo, kenpo, muay thai and many other styles Cody Langille- wing chung kung fu, iado, endo, tkd, karate, many others Joshua Sylvester- capoeria Jim Lighting- many styles (deceased) Sherri Smith- TKD Mathew Saft-TKD Rob Broillard-Judo, Jujitsu many others but i will work on contact info and get their first and last names for the ones that i have forgotten

  19. i wouldn't judge two styles by just one fight....granted these guys were experienced, yet who is to say that their style matches the style that other instructors of the same arts teach....dave benetaue (sp) is pretty good, the other guy didn't put up much of a fight, this happens sometimes, but don't judge the styles by one fight that is all i am saying
  20. i will tell you my opinion, cross train in many styles, but first, like others have said, get a good grip and foundation in one style. Being a master at one style leaves you weak against other forms of combat. Look at the early UFCs these guys were masters in their styles yet after several of these tournies they started to cross train to make themselves better. Personally I have studied several styles in my life and each one has made me a better well rounded fighter, I would agree with TJS. I started with mostly striking, added aikido manipulation, then JKD trapping, grappling arts, then low kicks of muay thai, then lastly kung fu open hand strikes, every style has something to offer, take what you want from each style and expand your arsenal this way you will have the right weapon for every fight, no matter who it is you fight.
  21. cross train, i start out a fight with very strong, quick and skillful striking, when i take the opponent to the ground i will go for submissions (if the fight is still going on), but i will also still strike, it is good to strike to weaken your opponent so that you can get your locks easier, both are very effective, but doing both is the best. If you are just a striker you will be in trouble on the ground, and if you are just a grappler you are in trouble if you can't get the striker down to the ground quickly, so be smart and cross train, be prepared for anything!

  24. i agree with g95champ, i will give praise to them when working techs but i will also give them critical critisism, if they do better they get the praise, i am never mean though....
