  1. in the air is good to build skill, that way when you hit hard targets you don't injure yourself, in the air is alot more convenient and can be performed anywhere, it is also good to start building for speed, once you are hitting something you can verify if your skill was correct depending on the hardness of the material, then you can build speed on hitting substance, and work combos as you can in the air, here it is easier to see the results of your power, yet i believe that both are important to do, the air is just alot more convenient, if i always had a hard bag or some material that i wanted to hit at the time available when ever i wanted that would be something to consider but i don't.....
  2. i lock heavy metal and rock, also techno
  3. i would talk to my instructors aside from the class one on one and tell them of the situation, i would explain my views on it and tell them that i mean no disrespect, yet i would like to push myself, train hard and be held to a higer standard is this a common feeling throughout the class, if so tell them that many people feel this way, and that a harder testing may be in need to make more respect or something like that, who knows, it is all up to you, speak from your heart, and tell them what you want to say, when you get their answer tell them thank you, and respect their choice, whether you agree or not, you can always train yourself harder
  4. my grandfather was a key figure in inspiring me, i also look at miyamoto musashi and chuck norris, bolo yung, jet li, many for their talent and abilities along with my instructor tom smith, many of the other staff members in my home class also...everyone has something to offer, you just have to be able to see it
  5. i encourage you to look for another link to the book of five rings, that link is very incomplete when it comes down to the translation, sorry, i appreciate the offer, yet the true translation is much larger and even more elaborate
  6. it's nice to have honor in the dojo, but when it comes to street fights there is no honor and no holding back, in the dojo there should be respect though
  7. both are good to do
  8. i got tired of hitting the button when i say the screen change and for some reason it didn't register that i clicked the button,,,,.....i guess it is because i am sooooooooo fast....hahahah ok maybe not, but that way insursed that it registered it
  9. i would punch your walls unless you are prepared to punch holes in the wall, get a sand bag in a burlap sack and some rope, then find a tree near the house and use a makeshift punching bag out of it, but go ahead and puch walls, i do it all the time, yet try to punch the concrete, it is harder, it is embarrasing if you a punch a hole in the wall, the wife may get upset!
  10. i look at the person being perfect in every area of the art, if you are not , then lower belts will not look up to you, you have to be something for them to strive for ....perfection, your moves must be better, faster and stronger,if a lower belt does better than you in all areas except for fighting then we have problems, great fighting is one thing, but it is not the only thing, if your school just throws out black belts good for you , but that is something that will never happen at my establishment, i want the black belts to be role models not just a person with a black belt that has been there for awhile, it is something that must be earned and it isn;'t easy to earn, therefore the respect that goes with the black belt is great, along with the responsibility

  18. it is hard to keep up with , i think that it would be alot easier to have a video camera on me and then just let me run through things, it is alot faster that way, i can talk and perform at the same time, instead of drawing and writing and trying not to get interupted,,,,,,someday, someday i will finish
  19. in my style we had to do all of the things required for all the lower belts, plus breaking, but first we did the physical part so that we would be tired and that only the best would make it to the black belt level, we ran 15 miles, had to swim in a river, 1500 sit ups, 500 push ups, 100 finger tip, 200 knuckle and the rest were mixed with clapping and different hand positions, we had 45 min catstances...aaaa great for the calfs, the instructors took boards to break over our muscles when we were flexed and tensed during our drills and motions and such, placed an apple in the bottow of a bucket and filled it with sand, then did a spear hand to rip out the apple, multiple opponent sparring, and our testing would last all day for several days throughout the next couple weeks.....it was intense, several failed, yet we trained hard and worked together to be prepaired for the test, there were always new things that were thrown in too.....horse stance for 2 hours is impressive, i have nerve damage now, so my legs would collapse before i made it that long, we also had to walk on hot coals and glass......many things
  20. i had to test for a white belt in some of the styles that i took but those were mcdojos......the only thing that i had to know was what dojo meant, and karate, and stuff like that and how to bow, that was it,.....and the guy wanted money.....I am glad that my background is in a good school
  21. yep i held down the button and waited,.....i guess i am a cheater....
