well, outside of the martial arts, the only other sports i do are track and cross country. the extra flexibility in my legs gave me a better stride length plus i had more power in my legs, which helped exponentally, plus the extra exercise built up my core (torso) a lot better, helping my running form a lot. i didn't train specifically for those purposes, it just sort of happened naturally, as i'm sure any other cross overs would.

eyes blinking in trying to dodge punches
battousai16 replied to risingdragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i'm gonna tell me what my music teacher told me when i told him i couldn't play a 4 mallet marimba song: practice, practice, practice, practice, practice. i sounds to me like you just have a habit of blinking do to a fear of getting hit; lots of people do that, even after they learn to block and parry. the more you practice, the less you do it. btw, i never did perfect that 4 mallet song. -
Need Training Partner in Tampa, FL. USA

i could be wrong, but i think jerry love lives in that area. if you ask nicely, he might play with you -
i would use the same set up, only ball bearing to start out with. the added weight allows some conditioning and you really appreciate the silence and neat wooshing sound the cord gives you once you move on. i would look in the yellow pages, but if you're like me and live no where near a place that sells martial arts equipment unless you buy it through a school which might sell things over priced or not sell to people outside of school, i would suggest https://www.martialartsmart.com they've seemed reliable with me so far.

Gangster rap is making a comeback
battousai16 replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in General Chat
ach, thank you -
she says in another thread that she's already boycotting kill bill, and, in all fairness, it looks far from "good". at this point it just looks like it wont suck miserably:P

Anyone have shaky hands "the shakes" when training
battousai16 replied to OrenJuMok's topic in Health and Fitness
it could be sleep deprivation as well, as that tends to give you "the shakes". are you getting enough sleep? though it's probably just fatigue and/or nervous-ness, getting more sleep would probably help a bit. -
the bends just came in for me, i'm listening to it now. drunken monkey, you're right, this is awsome not quite sure if i like it as much as kid a yet, it'll be a few more listens before i decide, but they're fightin' for the top.

if you're looking for NEW thinking movies, i think you're out of luck, though it's nice to see another huge jack black fan. heh heh, i was him for halloween last year. i wonder who i'll be this year... if you want a thinking movie, it's best you look BACK. the aim of movies now isn't what's "deep", more what looks cool. i'm in a pretty big film noir funk right now, so i'll recomend memento. i'll second brave heart, and cast a vote for vanilla sky. uh, the godfather, and, uh... my older sister just recomended donnie darko. i can't promise you'll like 'em all, and now that i think of it all of those except the godfather are fairly recent, so that takes out my initial point. but... yeah. oh, and go check out young frankenstein, cuz that's just a flat out funny movie

Kill Bill

"I hadn't actually seen any previews for it...just read about it. I had no clue how corny it was going to be My family as a whole hates Tarentino films, so we're boycotting this one as well." i can accept that again, i'm not a tarentino fan either, but i have a weakness for kung fu movies. -
yeah, i'll point out if you never do things your students don't like, they wont be very successful. i don't LIKE the massive amounts of push ups, or the painful splits, or kicking drills for endless amounts of time, but i wouldn't be have the martial artist i am now if not for them.

Kill Bill
battousai16 replied to battousai16's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
yeah, i'm thinking it can't be THAT bad. monkey girl, didn't you reccomend we all watch some show on WB about a kung fu teacher helping high school students find the light or some thing or other? the black sash or something to that effect? i don't see how you can watch that on tv and not this a kit kat does sound pretty good though... on account of the fact that i haven't payed for a movie since most of my friends started working at the local theater, i'll check it out and let y'all know how it is. i'm betting it wont be very good, but it can't be as bad as some of the other movies out right now. i give it a 3 out of 10 already for having bruce lee's jump suit -
but being distracted is half the fun! lifting usually brings out good conversation, and it's not like you need the concentration of a god to lift anyway. they may be called roman chairs, but that's not what we call 'em at my school. we have a name for 'em, i just forget what it is. i've always called it the "bendy thingy", what with your bending and all.
-
personally, i like lifting one day, and doing running and other aerobic exercises the next, in an every other sort of order. you should always have a partner, though, for spotting purposes. and yeah, i like that pad thingy where you lift with your back too does anyone know what that's called?

http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=404 i just heard about this last night; i'm not actually sure what to think. i'm not a big tarantino fan, myself. any thoughts?

it varies from state to state. in WI, they're illegal, i believe, but police can't search without probable cause. that dosen't mean they wont try, though, so you have to know your rights. you can do plenty of damage with a standard cane, though
-
well, when it comes down to it, to each his own. i'm with sasori_te on this one anyway
