What made you do the Martial Art that you do?
battousai16 replied to Metsubushi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hey, my parents only let me be in the martial arts because the girls at recess kept beating me up after all, i'm a lover, not a fighter... -
i played this game with my friends last night, and it had been along time. man, i forgot how cool this game is! the songs are so brilliant and catchy, and it's really fun! and the characters are really cool. it's short and the ending sucks, but it's still really fun. anyone else play this?

you know, i just noticed that. tae soo do IS hwa rang do, it's what they call the earlier ranks. it's simplified hwa rang do. i've started practising in more advanced classes though, i'll throw it in -
there are lots of clubs like that at colleges, at least round here in the US... well, at least 'round here in WI. people from all sorts of MA back rounds come and train with eacother. i go there all the time when i visit my sister for a weekend; it's great fun and you can learn a lot

on top of making for some very pretty and neat looking techniques, you can also flip to get out of joint locks and such.

well, my first school was shut down because my sensei kept allowing people to train for free when they couldn't pay and he eventually ran out of money and had to move (i still admire him to this day). i didn't want to quit the martial arts and the school who, in my opinion in the immediate area had the best istructors was a hwa rang do school. i looked into it and they had a good balance of striking, grappling, and weapons, and everyone in the class seemed to be having a lot of fun. so i went with it and am still training. -
really? i usually hit my legs, from my stances being to wide and such. ah well, live and learn
-
ouch. if it makes you feel anybetter, i smacked my self in the back of the head with my staff last night while praciticing my forms.
-
yeah. i'm with you guys. and, quite frankly, there's absolutely no reason to make me look at keanu reeves butt
-
i still hold that it's very helpful to start with chains. and you appreciate the benefits of cord after you've gone through chain. and your bearings shouldn't break if you keep them well lubricated.

fine by me such a cool weapon... i don't care how boring it is, i still wanna learn it
-
were you recieving grandmaster status on all the levels and earning all of your abilities? if so, you're a gaming god! i don't think i could do that in a single day... either way, yeah, it's the demon sword thing that's killing me. the fact that i can't kill my enemies... gah! dead or alive 3, thought it looked cool and i liked the multi-level stages... i dunno, i hated the controls. it might have just been the xbox controller, which i hate, but i thought throwing was rediculously easy and flowing with the techniques was awkward. eh, perhaps it's just me.

and that's precisely why i haven't just ordered one of those video sets sooner or later i trust someone who knows what they're doing will come 'round here... all just a matter of time...

yeah drunken monkey, i'm a korean stylist and i love the 3 section staff! i just wouldn't dare touch one without an instructor, and there aren't any around central Wisconsin

Experiences of real self defence: some questions
battousai16 replied to iolair's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i've been in 3 self defense situations in my life, and i'll tell you none of them were the same at all. i think the biggest touble with them is that they aren't routine. -
you should seek out drunken monkey, he mentioned something about messing around with them.
-
i don't think it would really be a problem, fireka. as an experienced martial artist, you should have a much easier time keeping balance than the "gangsta" you think is all talk if he starts a fight, just deny him service. sooner or later the hankerin' for a taco will become unbearable, and he'll apologize.
-
well, it all depends on the person, how they train, what they do with their training, blah blah blah you've heard it all before, i just wouldn't have felt right shooting out an answer without establishing that first. on that note i'll put out wing chun, however, note that i know almost nothing about most of the martial arts out there, it just seems to me that wing chun seems to emphasise linear techiques, which are always faster that circular ones, and the wing chung guys i've seen have always been really really fast. that and boxers. boxers are usually really really fast too. perhaps it has something to do with an emphasis on hand techniques...?
-
aw man, i used to live on that stuff before i learned how to cook! the best canned stew you can get! i haven't had some in quite some time, however...
-
feel free to open one, i'm interested in hearing why
-
my point wasn't that i thought it was a good idea or that you were lying when you said your phone cords were difficult to rip out (how dare you! i'm on to you... ), rather, that it's not unheard of, and can be done, and if some really stupid senior guys can do it, i don't see why not. however, round here, we don't have phone booths, they're just on a wall, so that threat is taken care of, though i've never thought it a good idea to back yourself into a wall, either
-
really? around here, a bunch of guys ripped every cord off the pay phone in the school as a senior prank. of course, there were cameras pointing straight at them and they were severely punished, and it wasn't at all funny... morons...

Worst enemy...
battousai16 replied to Topic's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
i'm surprised no one's said this yet; "i am my own worst enemy" it's usually my fear or doubt that hinders me, not the skill/lack-there-of of the other person -
WHOA! sorry, i just woke up, i meant michael moore, not rodger moore!
-
oh, i understand, being from a very irish family, they still cringe everytime they hear "oliver cromwell" or something of that mention. the potato famine of the 1840's; i'm well aware niether one of our countries is well liked by everyone don't worry about it. anywho, back to the topic at hand, movies... yeah... did anyone reccomend rodger moores stuff? particularly "roger and me"? i haven't seen bowling for columbine yet, but i like a lot of his other stuff.
