"I named my Betta fish "The Incredible Joe Kanshi" Kanshi = Fish in Japanese...so he's basically a superhero named Joe Fish." ...that's gotta be the coolest pet name i've ever heard i named my cat shelby, after my running idol, who i believe is also a martial artist. and she likes to sneak around and pounce on me and claw/bite at my ankles; i have no doubt she's training when i'm at school

i just saw a fairly good movie last night called "Amelie". it's in french, and it's really weird, but it different and has a good message to it. i thoroughly enjoyed it

"I always have the biggest urge to crack my joints when I'm in the middle of Spanish class, and my Spanish teacher is my only teacher that would have a problem with me cracking my knuckles loudly. " yeah, but s/he'll be so intimidated, s/he wont say anything

Gangster rap is making a comeback

as far as rock/rap hybrids go, i much prefer 311 monkeygirl: i think that's something everyone should do at some point in their life and personally, i'm not a will smith fan. at all. i just really don't like the beat to rap. though i respect the fact that he stays clean and dosen't do the whole "drugs/sex/shot-my-woman-last-night" thing, and he seems to put some THOUGHT into his lyrics (to the window to the wall!?! what does that even MEAN!?!), his stuff just isn't for me. rap in general isn't, i suppose. someone brought up that it has a good dance beat and they dance to it, but i can't dance, so that dosen't present much of a problem -
shorinryu sensei, i like your signature i also personally like you're family pot luck night thingy idea, our school does that too. it kinda brings people closer together and brings in a warmer environment, so it's not all blood, sweat, and tears. i second his idea although evidently canada is a bit different from WI here, because i don't think you could find another sensei here who would out of the goodness of their heart and in the interest of the martial arts do an open seminar. you'd be better off finding a talented student, they're the ones, at least around here, who tend to be the nicer guys

i personally like it when something goes wrong with an irish person and they yell "THE BRITS!". yeah, like the brits gave you that flat tire... god bless the irish!

nasty!?! that's awsome! i wish i could do that!!! that would be the ultimate intimidation factor before sparring! i can just see myself, standing quietly with my arms folded until it's my turn to jump in, where i slowly step forward and crack my neck! i so wish i could do that! a good back exercise i do a lot is known as a pillar, in which you hold your feet together as you lay on the floor, as you would a push up. then, keeping your back straight, prop yourself on your elbows with your fore arms touching the ground, and hold your body there for as long as you can. we do it in cross country all the time for a strong core. the average is about 3 minutes, but i think the school record is 10 minutes, 14 seconds. i dunno if i explained it well, but it's nice as it's fairly quick and you can do it anywhere.
-
yeah, i was a bit surprised by that too. cuz lifting dosen't exactly FIX a back problem as much as make it worse... unless by "back problem" you mean you just have weak back muscles, in which case more power to ya

well, i personally don't advise anyone to walk with any weapons, but then again i live in a fairly small town where most fights that break out are with fists and people aren't attacked nearly as often as they're challenged. don't get me wrong, attacks do happen, but rarely would one need a knife or a gun to get the upper hand. a simple knee to the groin will always do
-
ummm... at the risk of sounding impolite or disrespectful, i would advise you to ignore any of the advice he just gave you. you can't tell a policeman that you weren't aware that a grenade was dangerous not to mention the sheer lunacy of it... no offense, warp spider, you've shown yourself to be a very intelligent person, i just don't agree with your choice of carrying fire arms and explosives around with you.

"I'm not talking about the ball bearings, i'm talking about where it attaches to the stick. Maybe the stuff at the local store is just off these days, but I've seen some crap ones lately, and have seen a few break." hmmm... i haven't come upon this problem myself. we don't have a local store round here in WI, but i'll be sure to look out for that

when me and my friends see them and we're in a car, we like to go "bumpin" to traditional hindu music or phil collins/genisis. you get the weirdest looks... -
a good point, but if virtually all this person is looking for is strength, flexability, and cardio, even the worst instructor could give him a little. hell, TAE BO could give him that. the chances are, however, that once he starts he'll probably want a little more for his time and money. that said, he should still probably look for instructors over an art, darce has a good point indeed.
-
yeah, but for a starter set of nunchaku, you don't exactly need world class equipment. the ball bearings should last him more than enough time until he decides to by a new pair, and if you lubricate the ball bearings regularly it shouldn't be a problem. i think mine are 12", but i think that that probably matters least of all. i would go with the shorter set if you don't plan on attacking anyone with them. it'll probably make for easier practice.

"sano, you've got to stop taking things so literally, or you're going to need to get a crane, guitar, monkey, a snake, a fair lady, a shuttle, windows, etc just to do tai chi " that's the greatest image i've had in quite some time! i can just picture some guy coming up to a class and pulling all of those out of his car! and sano, i assume that's the name of a technique in tai chi, but i haven't come across it yet. that or my instructor just hasn't called it out yet

hmmm... i have the sudden urge to kick in a dark room, just to say i kicked without casting a shadow she's right, though. the shadowless kick was brought up in another thread, if i remember right, but it's more like a name for a technique than a kick litterally so fast it dosen't cast a shadow. i could be wrong, and we may be talking about two completely seperate things, because it's late and i'm to lazy to check the other site, but... yeah, i forgot where i was going with that. wow, did i lose myself. i'm off to bed. good night all.

yeah, that's what i was reffering to when i said RDL's, which is what we call 'em at my school

Fan Dancing

http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/tckprww06.html you might wanna check this out. i've never bought a video before, but this site has been dependable for me so far. this video comes with a fan, but if you have one i'm sure you could buy the video on its own. -
i'm not really sure, i've gotten all of mine through my school. natural hardwood octagon ball bearing swivel seems fine to me, unless you wanna go start with the cord like everyone else suggested. i might suggest getting a video there too so you're not just flailing the thing around wildly and have some idea as to what you're doing.

i got a "cannot find server" page. but if you're talking about a shadowless kick, i think that's a chinese style thing. a chinese stylist should roll on through here eventually and tell you about it... isn't that a wong fei hong thing?

ach; that's my opinion too. we were at a pep ralley at school, and there was some rap blairing on the speakers. the rhymes that weren't censored didn't make any sense at all. none of the words had anything to do with eachother. is it really that hard? i have the same problem with avril lavigne too, actually. i'm sorry, but you just can't rhyme "boy" with "boy" and "tv" with "mtv". that's cheating! i'd go on about the negative examples and influences on youth, but it you seem to have that pretty well covered. -
yeah, i'm a wee bit confused myself. and what's a triscallion?
-
ummm.... i think you forgot to include a link or something. or else i'm just missing what you're reffering to completely.
