sleep AND coffee? what a strange combination... i was under the impression that those cancelled eachother out

actually, as i understand it, he dissed all styles, due to the fact that they're styles. "the way is no way", after all. and judging from what i've read about bob wall, i'd have to say that mr. lee was pretty sure he was stronger than most any karateka and was probably right. i remain skeptical as to what was said about bruce lee is actually true, but i hardly think he was a push over

i have trouble getting into him. in one book he spent a good 20 pages explaining how an atomic bomb works, and quite frankly, i just don't care. he goes far to in depth into military strategy and technology for me. it's just not my thing. i can see where someone would like him, though

ah, but, and correct me if i'm wrong, but pain comes from electrical signals coming from your brain and into your nerves. but if your brain says that "i can do this, so i wont be sending pain that way", no message of "this hurts" will be sent through. and i believe that flexibility is based on "memory cells" (i don't remember the technical name for them), and that your nerves "remember" how far they can go. when you stretch, you reset the limit. but if you change them so that they "remember" to the maximum capacity, than that would seem to eliminate the pain. again, i could be way off, i'm just reciting stuff from memory from class and scientific american.

Art for my bro?
battousai16 replied to Nick117's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
well, there was a lot of time and training in between those 2 meets. the 20:21 was the last meet of the last season and the 17:59 was the first meet of this season, so it's not quite so impressive. -
well, it seems as though nearly everyone here seems to share the opinion that the color of the belt dosen't matter as much as the skills of the practitioner...

oh, kchenault, that reminds me, thomas hobbes' leviathan was also really good. as was utopia by thomas more, which is really interesting if you've read 1984, because a lot of the things that make up mr. orwells "nightmare society" are some of the things that make up sir mores utopia.

yes, bare in mind that mr. anderson (i love saying that ) was in no way out of shape when those were downloaded into his brain. well, i suppose the mental manifestation of mr. anderson wasn't out of shape; the actual thomas anderson had the whole atrophy thing going. anyway. on top of that, getting past the whole mental block of "i can't do this" would help a great deal. knowing you can resets your muscles "memory cells", thus letting you know your legs can stretch that far, or whatever. it's like we say in cross country, 95% of it is mental.

there are so many; i can't decide i really really like slaughterhouse V by kurt vonnegut, jr., and i'm a big fan of mother night and sirens of titan, also by mr. vonnegut. i also like 1984 by george orwell, and the dead zone by stephen king. i also really enjoyed the shining.

oooooooooo, i really wanna take a sword art too we learn the sword in my school, but i have to get a bit farther in my training; i'm working with the staff now. kendo looks fun, but it also looks EXPENSIVE. none of that equipment looks cheap, + tuition. but it seems like it would be well worth it if you could find cheap armour. on the other hand, iaido looks very very pretty and graceful, effective, and everyone i've seen do it seems relaxed and at peace. it's pleasant just to watch them and you get to wear those neat hakama pants i was never one for fencing myself, but it looks to me that all they really do is poke, which would just seem really annoying to me. i don't know, it dosen't look so fun to me, but that's just me.

defense against a push
battousai16 replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i think the most important thing about countering a push is foot work. step in, step out, step back, whatever, just move out of the way. in my school, all the counters result in a jointlock or a throw. -
Is it safer in the Dojo???
battousai16 replied to shotochem's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
no, i got it from a nickname some other students gave me when i did a sword form, which came from rurouni kenshin. -
i got outta freshman friday on account of the fact that when i was a freshman, my sister and her friends were seniors, and she looked out for me i got out of track team hazing because no one realised i was on the team

Dragonball Z
battousai16 replied to Black Dragon's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
although i don't much care for dragonball z (dragonball was way better, btw), it'll always hold a special place in my heart as one of the first animes i started watching, as sad as that sounds i did enjoy the cell games saga, that was pretty cool. i haven't watched that show in a looooong time. i hated gt, i haven't watched beyond the first tape. i couldn't even make it all the way through -
Is it safer in the Dojo???
battousai16 replied to shotochem's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i not only feel physically safer in the dojang, but i feel that my belongings are safer there, too. at home, things have a tendancy to turn up "missing", usually money. at the dojang, no one would dream of doing such a thing. i love my dojang -
ya know, there are people who live around me who might actually do that... we had a tornado drill at school once and the particular class i was in we had to seek shelter in the eating commons, with glass, silver ware, tables, vending machines, etc. the next tornado drill i was facing a window. we were talking about it at lunch, and one of my friends said, "dude, there's way to much in this school that could hit us in a tornado. shouldn't we be OUTSIDE!?!" ...

"I like classic disco music, in limited quantities " ditto. except i'm talking VERY limited quantites... like one song a week... and that's sorta pushing it...

i dunno if it counts as a fetish, but for a super long time whenever i was on the computer my cat would jump up on my shoulder and rest there (she's a tiny cat, not yet 2) one night she didn't do it and i felt really weird she's back again, though

i have seen them and they are quite good. that aside, i don't know how i'd feel to have a hair care product screen printed across my uniform...

i'm with AnonymousCoward in terms of music, i think that's a lot more effective than the sound track to tae bo but i personally like musical formes (and i seem to be the only one on this forum who does) as long as they're done well and aren't done to stupid music, as AnonymousCoward alluded to.
