  1. well, i don't have unlimited access to a washing machine, so i do when i can. it's not like i'm trying to win a record (hmmm... worlds stinkiest man...), i just wash it when it's needed. i take care so that it dosen't absolutely reak.
  2. i'm sorry to tell you this, but not really, no. swordsmanship is a very difficult thing to learn, and really not something that transfers over to books and tapes well. most of what you see is watered down, they leave stuff out, they're not specific enough, and most of all, tapes and books can't correct you. are you sure there aren't any MA schools around you? sometimes they just don't advertise much; ask around, look in the yellow pages, look online. if not, since what i say probably dosen't hold much weight to you anyway, if you're desperate for books and videos, try martialartsmart.com. i've had plenty of good experiences with them
  3. and, i may have read you wrong, but quite frankly, i don't see how a punching bag could NOT help in the martial arts. if you can't apply your techniques to striking someone, much less a bag of sand, you're probably not in the right place.
  4. well, running works the same muscles as jumping rope, and then some. when you run up a hill in cross country or sprinting in track, you have to go up on the balls of your feel and you're getting more or less the same exercise as jumping rope. we do, now that i think of it, jump up and down off of boxes, which i suppose is a more effective rope jumping suppliment
  5. my boss was this close to giving me a payed day off to go see it (she said it was that good), but one of my other bosses stepped in and brought up my rant about how i don't like russel crowe, and my boss called it off ah well.
  6. running. running works more of the muscles in your legs, heck more of the muscles in your body, and it's a heck of a lot less boring. you don't see pro runners jumping much rope
  7. i'm with monkeygirl on the whole "it feels at home thing", and i seem to be able to go longer without washing it. my light weight uniform is soaked by the time i'm out of class; but i can go for 2 or 3 with my heavy weight. and it makes me feel like a big man
  8. yeah, that was pretty dissapointing. call me a nerd, but i was hoping for more of the science behind the martial arts, not some guy who wanted to win a tournament. if i wanted that, i'd just wait about a month and videotape my own life
  9. you would go to your local library/city hall and ask them where they keep all of the books on your state laws.
  10. i'm sure she will, don't worry about it. if there's one thing i've learned about girls, it's that they fluctuate. one day they'll be in madly in love with some random guy, the next they'll hate him and everything he stands for. time heals all wounds
  11. personally, if she was a good friend, i would stay loyal and stick by her. there's got to be more to her than an obcession with the instructor, right? she'll settle down, i imagine. it's probably not healthy, and in the end she may end up even just leaving the school, but looking bad because you hang out with her is the last thing i'd worry about.
  12. actually, in my case, there were quite a few kung fu schools around me, they were just really hard to find. once i'd found a school and had settled down in my style is when i found a xing yi school, which is precisely what i was looking for. they just didn't advertise nearly as much as the karate and TKD schools around me. i know for me at least you just kinda had to know where to look. why's that? beats me. but i've found they're almost always around, or at least someone who's really good who's willing to teach you in his/her back yard. at least hear in WI
  13. yeah, that's more or less what i'm left with. i can't for the life of me be intimidating; i have a lot of fun when i spar and i'm generally pretty smiley i tried to be intimidating once, i walked up stone silent and everything, and then, as much as i tried to fight it, i got a huge grin on my face and my opponent just laughed and yet, on the street, i seem to scare everyone, i dunno what it is. i'll go on a walk and i'll encounter someone, i'll wish them a good evening and they quicken their pace. oh well.
  14. from the limited knowlege i have, i've heard more more of what you seem to be looking for in san soo.
  15. "i give them a demo of my powers and if the poor guy is still there i would tell him that there is no shame in running so i will turn my back count to ten and let you go" wow, one day you're gonna get nailed in the spine so hard...
  16. hey thanks monkeygirl, you have a happy thanksgiving too! though it seems to just celebrate the imperialistic slaughter of countless native americans (and turkeys), it's good that the day in its self seems to bring a feeling of togetherness among americans, which is what really matters. i wish you all a happy and safe thanks giving myself
  17. i'm more of a big hairy bear, myself...
  18. or the media will take the psyche of a seemingly "good" (who are we to define good?) person, trigger something and have him/her snap. you would be a fool to blame the media entirely, but bare in mind that parent only spend so much time with their children. soon they're bombarded with images of madonna, the matrix, and whatever. i'd say ones general surroundings affect someone far more than ones parents.
  19. although the first matrix was without question the best, you forgot the animatrix and enter the matrix, both of which original with stories of there own.
  20. once you get a bit of knowlege in the language, try listening to music and watching movies in said languages. it puts words into context and can teach you a bit more; that's what my german teacher has us do. also, it makes me feel like a big man when i can understand sentences without having to run out and translate them
  21. i'm sure they do I think thoreau was nothing short of brilliant, he was just a pitiful author. i never read emerson. anyway, greek gods... yeah!
  22. ach. slaughterhouse V or mother night, those are my two favorites. did you have to read walden? gah, what a long book! the chapter on the bubbles in the ice... . a civil disobedience wasn't bad though; pretty interesting, in fact.
  23. ach, thanks monkeygirl. so you'll read Thoreau but not vonnegut, eh?
  24. looks like i'm eros http://images.quizilla.com/T/truly-dippy/1061402478_CWINDOWSDesktoplove2.jpg Aphrodite/Eros http://quizilla.com/users/truly-dippy/quizzes/%3F%3F%20Which%20Of%20The%20Greek%20Gods%20Are%20You%20%3F%3F brought to you by: http://quizilla.com
