Non white uniforms
battousai16 replied to MichiganTKD's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
i disagree. when an entire school where's something non white, it dosen't set anyone apart. and i prefer black over white not because it's "cool" or whatever, but because it can take more of a beating before it gets so dirty i have to wash it. i'm not a big laundry man except on the red-white-blue thing. yeah, that is really tacky. -
see, and now i'm curious
-
sounds interesting, but i'd just as soon not use music. just dosen't seem right i guess. whatever.
-
i'm sorry Kanzashi, that's just what i interpreted when you said it made the classes less boring. that's why i asked. i hope i didn't offend you
-
the entertainment level of your classes rests entirely on the color of the uniforms the students are wearing?

go for it. it's my AIM sn too, actually, that's what everyone calls me.

same here, but that quote definitely made my day

Non white uniforms

hmmm... and interesting point yourself. i consider my self a traditional martial artist, but i hardly find it essential to where white, mostly for convenience purposes. i see where you're coming from, but aren't uniforms white because people originally trained in their undergarments and pajamas? and belts can be different colors and represent different things, why can't a uniform? though i understand this is a subject i'm never gonna' sway you on, no matter how hard i try, and vice versa -
battousai is a nickname that was given to me by some people i used to train with, because i went to tournament and did a form with a reverse blade sword. i didn't mean too, i didn't have sword of my own, and i'd been training with ones at the school. my sensei told me i could use one out of his office the day of the tournament, and so i did and didn't realise the blade was backwords until i started the form. i unsheathed it and my buddys started laughing, and called be battousai after kenshin from rurouni kenshin. the one people call me the most, though, is bogbeast. it was early january and my girlfriend had just dumped me, and i'm not a particularly attractive guy. well, my horoscope in the school news paper that day was something along the lines of "you will be a dateless wonder all year because you're a hideous bogbeast". my friends and i had seperate lunches, and so they saw it while i was in class. they rushed into the german room with the paper (frau berry is a very understanding woman) and were laughing hysterically as they made me read it. someone used it to represent me in a short story, and it just kind of stuck from there.

"Not only that, but I've noticed the fancier the uniform the worse the technique and manners. " first up, in his/her defense, i've noticed that too. second, i think y'all are taking way to much offense to this. it's one person's opinion, don't seat it. third, i think the core of the martial arts is the heart and soul of the practitioner, not the clothing of him/her. my favorite uniform was green top/black bottom (though granted, that wasn't a TKD, which seems to be what you're getting at),but i hardly think that makes me an evil person. besides, i don't know about y'all, but i know i'm not pure, i make mistakes all the time. wouldn't wearing something symbolizing purity technically be dishonest, which is pretty shady in its self? -
my current school you either have to wear all white or white bottom/black top. i think my favorite uniform ever, though, was one of those chinese shirts with the frog buttons, which was green, and black pants. it was the most comfortable, and the blasted thing stayed closed, unlike the japanese gi tops also, it was green, so i could represent irish pride

yeah, at least not the blatantly obvious ones... anywho, having the stuffing kicked out of me by a bunch of girls is what got me into the martial arts! when i was a lot younger, about 6 or 7, there was a group of about 5 girls who would beat me up everyday during recess. my dad was so ashamed i was eventually brought into a dojo and after defending myself once, we got along alright. i went to state in a science competetion with one of them, and 2 more (they were twins) and i used to go out to breakfast once a week. they were older though, so they went off to college and i haven't really seen 'em sense. also, one of my first instructors was female, and she used to knock me senseless left and right, 2 days a week. i practiced at home really really hard for like a week, and walked in convinced i would finally beat her, and was so depressed when i realized she'd just been going really easy on me all along, and continued to effortlessly beat me! and then she moved before i could match her skill level... the pain of it all...

"somethings always puzzled me about meditation music. surely if you need music to meditate then you're not really meditating...." see, that was my understanding, but again, i'm no expert...
-
you're talking to a guy from the dairy state, what don't i know about cheese?
-
i always thought it was best to meditate in silence, but i'm by no means an expert on the subject. if you get kazaa, be prepared for a whole lot of viruses.
-
nah, i gotta say, mayonnaise really blows. cheese makes for a much better spread

i'm gonna quote "so i married an axe murderer when i say "i think most scottish cuisine is based on a dare"
