  1. I suppose there also known for their animal forms (not all styles though), to me Chinese martial arts are quite exotic and somewhat unorthodox, also very traditional and unique, however they are also very powerful and efficient, at the moment I practice Karate but 2night I'm having my first lesson in Lau Gar kung fu, so i'll tell u what I think 2moz.
  2. Do most Kung fu arts cover this centre line concept or is this unique to Wing Chun (and JKD i suppose)?
  3. Ok, ur in a self defence situation and u decide to throw a roundhouse to the mid-section, unfortunatly u throw a bad kick and ur attacker manages to grab the end of ur leg, in this split second what would be ur reaction and how would u cope with it. Personally I dont know any counters for this, and this is a martial artists worst nightmare, so I would like to here ur ideas. (Plz dont reply with "I wouldnt get into that situation" or "u need to be more specific" etc, plz just answer the question.)
  4. Boxing in the UK has been popular for over a hundred years, originally it was bear knuckle boxing that took place in illeagle gambling rings, were people were actually killed. I think its main origin however was the Army where it was very popular and still is. I think its more popular becuase of the gambling side of it, I mean some ppl put big money on boxing matches, its also becuase its alot more violent compared to the Martial arts which are really there for self defence, and in todays world violence is what ppl want. At the end of the day it is "Western boxing" so it will always have more popularity compared to the asian forms of fighting. I mean compare it to point scoring martial arts, theres just not enough violence and tension, ppl want to see knockouts and dramatic comebacks, they want to see nations collide, with all the pressure on two men. Boxing seems to do the job, but in my opinion I would prefer to see a martial arts bout, not boxing, thats probably because martial arts has more variety (ie. more techniques involved) and of course I am a Karateka, so I find it more interesting.
  5. First I would take some basic japanese language lessons. Just so u can get a bit of communication going when u get there, after a few months u'll begin to pick up on their language pretty quickly, esspecially if u've learnt abit and know how its structured. If I were to go anywhere in Japan I'd probably go to the Okinwana, the origin of Karate, I bet theres some superb dojos. I think the best thing to do is maybe go on holiday(sorry u guys call it vacation) to japan for say a week, see how u like it, look around 4 some dojos, and if u like it there then u could go back. One prob though holidays in Japan arent cheap, so becareful. Personally I love the Japanese culture and i'll like to visit there a few times in my life, maybe i'll spend a year there sometime. It shouldnt be hard to find work and live their for say a year, and then if u like it, stay. My sisters boy friend took a year out and went to New Zealand, it's not to hard to sort out, ppl do it all the time. If u need some help, go talk to ur travel agent or somthing, they should give u all the info u need. Remeber u only live once, if u want to do it then just do it .
  6. He does have alot of power, theres no doubt there, but he channels it through his rage, thats how he won his fights. In his day he was a very powerful boxer, but today I think he's old news, his world champion days are long gone, thats why he's given up on boxing, and moved to this, u see he's has lost all his money, not long ago he declared bankcruptcy, I dont know how he got himself into that situation but I do know that at the moment he'll take any fight he can get if theres money to be won. I hope Sapp puts that animal down for good, its the only humain thing to do .
  7. Christ, there must be some pretty bad side effects if it drives u to hang ur self.
  8. Sano, Tyson lost to lenox lewis big time, it was a complete slaughter, he fights like a pub brawler. Lenox lewis firstly is a nice guy and a skilled sportsman (alot more skilled than Tyson thats already been proven) he also has a massive physical advantage, firstly lenox is huge, tyson is a migit, secondly lenox is alot heavier, and finally his arm reach is also better, now that is physical superiority. Lenox lewis is nothing like tyson, and why would he want to be a complete loser(literally), tyson is a rapest, big-mouthed, bankrupt (ha ha loser) and evil physcopath, he has no self control and no skill, and at the end of the day Lenox Lewis is world Champ with many years to go, and whats Tyson; a bankrupt, 2nd place, loser .
  9. I have a 25kilo bag for karate, its very good. Make sure the bag u get is quite long, try this site: https://www.blitzsport.com
  10. Ok, calm down...sheesh, oh by the way u edited that.
  11. Keep trying, talk to ur sensei about it, DONT give up, and if u want to improve the physical side of it then join a gym or workout at home, remember keep practicing, dont give up. If the ppl u spar with hit to the head, tell them to go easy, say that u need some practice and have a light spar, build up ur confidence. If they keep doing it talk to ur sensei.
  12. Your quote, the ESA-shotokan one, just wondering why put it there, makes no sense.
  13. Its really just to do with interest in the other arts, Kung fu might suit me better or it might not, theres no harm in having a look I suppose.
  14. That sucks, I cant be bothered with heavy weights, is there no other way?
  15. Well, Austraila has the highest drinking rate in the world, and well the UK, erm were second place.
  16. thats absalutely right, and the karateka's best arena is on the street.
  17. WC-Strayder, grappling is NOT just about if the fight goes on the ground, it is mainly about THROWING ur opponent, if u are grabbed, say a bear hug or headlock or somthing u'd find it very easy if u could initiate a throw on them. This is text book self defence, theres nothing fancy about it, he grabs u and u throw him, thats it. Now I have no experience with throwing arts or grappling, I am simply a Karateka and yes I know in Karate that u do learn techniques for escaping from locks or grabs, but studying a throwing art gives u that extra advantage, and in most fights if the person does not do any damage with his punches he will imidiately try to tackle u, and thats when it is needed, plus when u do a throwing art u will have lots more experience in escaping from locks. Remember this is about being flawed as a fighter, and even though some situations may rarely occur they still might, and if ur not ready 4 them then u have a weakness somewere and are not fully efficent as a fighter. p.s I think u have been watching too much UFC becuase throwing/grappling arts are not just about groundwork.
  18. Oh, and if ur gonna bare knuckle a punching bag use raps first and then move on to bare knuckle when ur hands are tougher or ur'll damage ur joints and get terrible arthritus when ur older.
  19. Punching sand, dried beans or whatever is an excellent way to condition hands, thats a traditional shaolin monck techniques, they punch buckets of dried beans 2000 times a day until the knuckle pain becomes so intense they have to stop, then they do it again the next day, that'll get u on the way to braking concrete blocks !
  20. Firstly he was unable to throw any kicks, secondly boxers are very good at throwing fast punch combos and weaving out of harms way, he is trained differently, but remember this is in a boxing ring, with full contact boxing gloves, he would be unable to use many of his blocking techniques, many would actually be illeagle moves. Remember this; on the street its very different, u have free hands to grab, grapple, block, utilize pressure points with various hand techniques, throw kicks etc etc, the list is endless, the only thing he could do was punch, which as a boxer u would be munch better at and perform various boxing blocks and dodges that he would not have learnt. Its like a tennis player being beaten by a badminton player, its a hole different game.
  21. I suppose its a lot harder when ur doing ur Dan gradings, but I also suppose that ur sensei will only give u the test when he/she thinks u are ready and will pass.
  22. I've been doing Karate for about a year now and I'm thinking of joining another club (at the same time) which is Lau Gar Kung fu, both are quite different to each other and Lau Gar is more of a competitive martial art and it also incudes the five shaolin animals, while Karate is geared more to self defence, is this a good idea? and when do u think it is a good time to start a second martial art?
  23. I suppose flawed is the wrong word, what it means is that u have a weakness somewere, a blind spot if u like, and it may never happen but u may enter a self defence situation and are attacked in a ceratin way that u cannot defend ur self properly, however if u are an allrounder u may have a few tricks to counter it.
  24. Style: TRODAI KARATE Grades: white red blue orange green yellow purple purple/white brown 1st degree black 2nd degree black etc.
  25. But surely they peform drugs tests in WSM, its unlikely that the UFC or MMA perform drugs tests, I think for all International sporting competitions drugs tests should be compulsory.
