Poll: military training in your country
Rich_2k3 replied to Kirves's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There is no subscription in the UK mainly down to the fact that the armed forces in our country is a very popular career, so in terms of the size of our country we have a very large armed forces. Royal Marine Commandos and SAS soldiers are the toughest fighting force on the planet, they have to do months in the most hostile enviroments on the planet ie. Jungle, desert and arctic conditions. The SAS regiments have the hardest selection process in the world and usually only a few percent pass. There not just experts in Combat but also in the Anti-terrist role, an SAS soldier will spend hours in the killing house everyday. Flashbangs, claymores and other anti-terrorist equipment was all created by the SAS, remember the Israley embassy seige in London, that was a live showing of what they could do, all hostages saved, all terrorists dead, just a few minutes long, no casualites. Quick, efficent, deadly. I cant even begin to discuss what kind of training they do becuase theres simply to much, their trained for anything and I mean ANYTHING, their lives revolve around training; weapons, survival, tatics, paradrops (what there best at) hand to hand combat, endurance etc etc. -
The Last Samurai
Rich_2k3 replied to battousai16's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Fantastic movie, This kind of film is what we need somthing that promotes the martial arts and traditions, maybe after people see it they will have a new respect for the samurai and martial arts in general. The samurai are an amazing people and its a real shame that they have died out, i mean in todays world theres no space for honor like there once was, its all about making money etc. pitty. -
Get the book "dynamic strength" by "Harry wong", excellent muscle building exercies and some great warmups.

New to Karate and have a question about my Gei fitting.
Rich_2k3 replied to Steinhauers's topic in Equipment and Gear
There are two styles; Europian cut, which is basically the longer one (ankle length) for kumite (fighting) and Japanese cut which are shorter for kata, their shorter so the judges can see your feet and if your doing the techniques right. I'd say a good fit is if it reaches the ankle, i prefer europian cut gi's. -
What does Jiu-jitsu involve?
Rich_2k3 replied to Rich_2k3's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Is Kenjitsu (Kendo) a good martial art to do, this is one that i'm very interested in, the one problem is what are the costs like, cuz i've seen Kendo armour online and it is quite pricey. When I can drive (when I my pass test...couple of months) I might take it up cuz my nearest club is a bit away, what are the costs like? -
Kyokushin tournament on Eurosport!
Rich_2k3 replied to Kirves's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I think I saw some of that, kyokushin karate is truely amazing! Keep a look out guys, British Eurosport is fantastic for martial arts events especially K-1. -
Yeah, I think that if you lift heavy weights and eat a good high protein diet then your muscle mass will increase, if you lift the same weights but stay on a light diet then you burn calories and gain better definition of ur muscles. However I have heard from many experienced body builders that by doing high reps with low weight does tone muscle, I suppose the best person to ask is ur physician, dont suppose we've got any fitness experts here to lend a hand?

Traditional jiu jitsu is what I would probably go for if I decide to start, is it just throwing and grappling techniques or is there any striking involved? -
I cant believe the Bo is beating the Nunchaku...interesting.

I'm really suprised by the results of this, I thought that the roundhouse punch would dominate, but seems that i'm wrong, very wrong infact.

How many people shadow box at home, other than improving ur martial arts skill is it a good way of keeping fit?

How can u condition curling ur toes back effectively? and how long does it usually take?
-
What are calisthenics heard it a couple of times but dont have a clue what it is?
-
When performing front kicks do u use the ball, the heel or the palm of your foot. I was told to use the ball but I always find that my toes get caught and it hurts, most of the experienced black belts at my dojo have toes that point vertical when they pull them back, so I suppose this isnt a problem for them, but it takes time to condition ur toes to be like that. What do u think?

Try the eagle catcher, instead of two handles its attached to every finger with using bands which are then attached to a metal frame around the hand, your crunch your knuckles pulling the elastic inwards, pretty good.
-
Thats entirely true.

I think if ur gonna take someone down in a streetfight the best thing to do is run when they hit the ground, ur there to defend ur self not to kill them.
