How would you sum up karate, what does karate mean to you, the physical aspects, the mental aspects and the purpose of it, is it just to get fitter or to learn to defend yourself or is it somthing deeper to you? what impact does karate have on you as a person, come on people lets sum this fantastic and dynamic piece of art up once and for all!

Its the kind of kick u see in TKD, looks fancy but...how can i put it "all bark and no bite". Still i think anyone who can do it is very skillful and fit, but maybe they should be using that fitness for more efficent kicks, like a nice solid sidekick to the knee.

Shaolin Monks
Rich_2k3 replied to Lü Bu's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
ive a shaolin monk push a spear into the air and another lie on it, now thats pretty damn hard! -
What are your worst injuries you've ever faced in the dojo, tournement or whatever, or have u seen any nasty injuires take place, also how did u deal with them... p.s (theres no harm in being graphic )

I think music is really good while training but ONLY when your doing circuit training because it builds determination, i dont agree when your sparring or practicing katas because it makes martials arts seem cheap, i mean u never saw the shoalin monks training with music

I've been thinking of starting Kendo along side my karate, ive heard its excellant for improving arm strength, fitness and esspecially reflexs. The more i read about it on the net the more I want to do it. Apparently Kendo is growing in popularity and I think in Japan its the fastess growing sport. What are your thoughts on Kendo or any sword art, is it just a useless sport or is it the firece, phisyical and spiritual rush leading to enlightenment that it is supposed to be.

Firstly i just want to know what which one do you like better, the original rocky song or the eye of the tiger, for me the original wins hands down ! Anyway back to the subject, in your dojo do you ever have music playing in the background while your training, we tried it last week when we were doing circuit training and it works quite well. We had songs like "kung fu fighting!" "rocky" "we will rock you" "firestarter" etc. what kind of music do u like when your training and do u think it improves your determination !

I need some tips on my full contact spinning roundhouse kick, basically what i'm doing is my leg when it lifts of the floor is coming in in a diagnal line instead of a horizontal line. I didnt explain it very well so make what u can of it.

guys i was wandering do u ever find open tournements where a variety of arts compete?
-
Training in either way is dangerous, u could get hurt badly in a fight. I suppose if your a competant fighter, say a black belt in karate and decide to learn a bit of kung fu from books, then thats alright.

The shaolin monks, wow. How do they condition there bodies to take so much punishment, their as hard as nails (literally). Mentally and phisically they show the human body at its best, how do they do it? how do they train? why are they so god damn good!

The 2nd greatest martial artist of all time!
Rich_2k3 replied to Rich_2k3's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ok guys i'll refrase the question entirely, who are the greatest MODERN martial artists, now be it there impact on the MA's or there skill as martial artist. I believe Bruce Lee is the greatest because he was an extreamly skilled fighter, yes, but he also began JKD a very efficient art and was also a great philosopher which inspired many. Name another modern fighter that has had the same impact? One thing I have to say though in terms of fighting skill, remember the shaolin monks, their bodies are conditioned so well it seems inhuman, i've seen them brake solid rock over there heads! -
I see your point isshinryuka, I think the spirtitual side of martial arts has strong connections with the buddhist religion, the buddhist religion does no worship a god, it is a path of enlightentment and helping you to become a better person. I think in the east martial arts when it was formed sprouted connections with this religion because people in that region were part of budism also. This has traveled to the western world through movies and because of that the real spiritual side has been shrouded somewhat. I think if u were to follow this idea of zen and self enlightenment along side your christian beliefs then it would be like following two religions.

What's middle-America's problem with MA?!
Rich_2k3 replied to Fenris-wolf's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I live in the UK, I think ppl who don't do martial arts are very ignorant of them. I showed my mum an injury I once had from karate and she said "I thought there was no contact in karate", what the hell! ppl seem to think karate is all tap, tap and kicking air, well its not. I also find that ppl seem to call all martial arts kung fu for some reason, now thats for watching to many movies! -
Telsun, Push ups will work on both areas but mainly on the shoulders, I want a very efficient way of building the pecs. p.s oh and by the way guys are 10lb ankle and wrist weights anygood, this question is nothing to do with the pecs and shoulders by the way!
