  1. In my old TKD school, this was the case. I suggest you find a new school. School's that have primarily children usually have curriculums that are watered down and are meant for younger children.
  2. people bash it because most commercial schools emphasize kicking over punching, 70% usually, and despite that their kicks are some of the most ineffective in existence
  3. you seriously train underwater? what's a floor to ceiling ball?
  4. what techniques/equipment do you use to improve the speed of you hand techniques?
  5. by the way, those two links are bull, you know that that's an advertising site right? if you see a lot of ads, like i do, you'll know that EVERY SINGLE 'invincible street style become martial art master in one day' martial arts ad bash karate to a pulp. examples are lethalo, defendo, self defense 101, SCARS, that link u gave, etc. don't believe a word they say
  6. sansoouser, think about this. if i didn't think it was good, why would i start it?
  7. Green, forgive me for saying so but you seem a bit biased against Karate. I don't understand why people think Kata is useless for self defense. Each movement in a kata is a self defense technique that can be effectively applied to a situation. Go here: http://www.i-clps.com/karate/lesson22.html for some possible applications for heian shodan, the first shotokan kata. SubmissionFighter, there is no 'proper' bunkai, each school will have different applications for the moves. The true applications that the original makers of karate intended were lost.
  8. do you study kata applications at your school? do you practice the applications, or just learn them? would you use them during a sparring match?
  9. cool, aNy additional comments?
  10. Hohan-1, just out of curiosity, could you name the kenpo guys that were in the UFC? I'd like to find out a bit more about them.
  11. 60 bucks a month
  12. I don't think it has any weak points. Lack of ground fighting maybe?
  13. Kenpo is good, but I would still choose Kyokushin. I may be wrong, but I'm sure that if more people actually knew about kyokushin karate, there would be more in the NHB world. Kyokushin, like Muay Thai, has an intense training method and emphasizes low, powerful kicks. Being a practitioner, I would say that it also has a good share of stand-up grappling techniques/throws. Kyokushin, like Shotokan, also emphasizes power, solid punches, but with speed as well.
  14. I don't plan on doing this anytime soon, but just for future reference.
  15. When cross training, do you think that it is better to stop the current martial art and take another one or take another one in addition to continuing your current one?
  16. Just wondering, do any styles (or kenpo) do full contact and bare knuckle with face punches?
  17. thats bull.. look at master oyama need i say more?
  18. suppose your unable to run away for some reason
