high kicks in a real fight?
aznkarateboi replied to broomhilda000's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
my point was clearly stated. my point was that high kicks are usually useless in a fight and i noticed that you made 10 posts on the exact same page, which i find rather... unusual. that is my point, and i see no reason to press the subject. -

high kicks in a real fight?
aznkarateboi replied to broomhilda000's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
its common sense that high kicks are usually useless in a real fight. broomhilda000, looking at this page alone i see 10 posts that you have started. o_O? -
I mean they have their knees bent, not quite as low as crouching though. They have their heads lowered and are charging forward. What? Are you referring to me?

ok as you might know by now I am considering going to a bjj/mt/kali school that is close to my area. however, from the looks of it bjj is purely fighting on the ground. can bjj be used when standing up? i.e. someone grabs/bearhugs you, puts you in a headlock, grabs your shirt, grabs your wrist, etc.

I used to do karate for several years but had to quit due to transporational difficulties, though I enjoyed it immensely. I also took TKD but did not like it, as it was a mcdojo and I found that the style sucked and only used kicks. Currently I am considering two schools, one of them is a Shaolin Hung Fut school and one is a Muay Thai/BJJ/Kali school(teaches all three). The Muay Thai school is closer to my area. Please visit the websites of the schools and tell me what you think. http://www.kungfu1.com/ http://linxx-academy.com/ I am looking for the following in no particular order - Fun - Self Defense - Physical fitness - Visual Appeal Please tell me which school you think is better

Muaythai Fighter, are you implying that arts that are not seen in NHB games are useless for combat? You are sadly mistaken, I have seen several fights at my high school and my friend who is a practitioner of karate beat the crap out of another person who tried to do his "boxing" (he obviously wasn't trained in it, but neither are most people). Also another friend of mine knows kung fu and has gotten into several fights and did well. I know this from watching real fights, not from looking at the advertisement and handouts from my school. Why don't you bother to explain why traditional martial arts suck? How can you accuse others of foolishly sticking up for their art when you bash all traditional styles and provide little evidence for your statement? you get my point

Yes, I agree that it the most important aspects of fighting are the individual and the training method. MuayThai Fighter, tell me why you think that you can't use any traditional styles to effectively fight. I agree with sevenstar, its laughable to claim that with just six months of training and in normal circumstances, a new pankration fighter will usually be able to defeat a black belt in a traditional art who has been training for more than ten years. Your reasoning behind this is because the black belt follows a traditional style. Based on what I have read from you, this is your reasoning: Traditional = outmoded and therefore useless for fighting. While Muay Thai is certainly an effective art, your claims are simply outrageous. With all due respect, I would like you to visit this website: https://www.lethalo.com ... you will see that your claims are very similar to that of this style.
