  1. What's wrong with Southern Shaolin styles? And based on what I've seen, Philipino martial arts seem to be much more practical than those of japanese.
  2. my point was clearly stated. my point was that high kicks are usually useless in a fight and i noticed that you made 10 posts on the exact same page, which i find rather... unusual. that is my point, and i see no reason to press the subject.
  3. are southern styles of shaolin kung fu effective for self defense?
  4. its common sense that high kicks are usually useless in a real fight. broomhilda000, looking at this page alone i see 10 posts that you have started. o_O?
  5. I mean they have their knees bent, not quite as low as crouching though. They have their heads lowered and are charging forward. What? Are you referring to me?
  6. whoah! that is the school that I'm considering joining
  7. really? cool.. because the new school that I want to go to is owned and taught by that Tai Yim guy
  8. hmmmm im beginning to lean towards the hung fut school, and heres why. the muay thai program of the linxx academy(not the whole thing, just the thai program) has sparring only once a week. is this unusual or bad? it seems a bit low..
  9. how do you fight someone in a low stance? how do you defend against someone in a low stance that charges for your legs? just some questions
  10. ok as you might know by now I am considering going to a bjj/mt/kali school that is close to my area. however, from the looks of it bjj is purely fighting on the ground. can bjj be used when standing up? i.e. someone grabs/bearhugs you, puts you in a headlock, grabs your shirt, grabs your wrist, etc.
  11. im might be misunderstanding u, but are you saying that any old big grappler could have killed bruce?
  12. soem styles i would like to try... pankration which seems like lots of fun and really effective muay thai bjj vale tudo american kempo karate kung fu
  13. by visual appeal i mean do the moves look cool.. but dats not really a top priority
  14. What are differences between the two? Are there any differences? Or are they just different names for the same thing?
  15. i already saw both schools and their both pretty good... i really cant decide.. which style do you think would suit my goals best?
  16. I used to do karate for several years but had to quit due to transporational difficulties, though I enjoyed it immensely. I also took TKD but did not like it, as it was a mcdojo and I found that the style sucked and only used kicks. Currently I am considering two schools, one of them is a Shaolin Hung Fut school and one is a Muay Thai/BJJ/Kali school(teaches all three). The Muay Thai school is closer to my area. Please visit the websites of the schools and tell me what you think. http://www.kungfu1.com/ http://linxx-academy.com/ I am looking for the following in no particular order - Fun - Self Defense - Physical fitness - Visual Appeal Please tell me which school you think is better
  17. a question: if someone learns muay thai and bjj separately but uses both styles when fighting is he doing pankration?
  18. Muaythai Fighter, are you implying that arts that are not seen in NHB games are useless for combat? You are sadly mistaken, I have seen several fights at my high school and my friend who is a practitioner of karate beat the crap out of another person who tried to do his "boxing" (he obviously wasn't trained in it, but neither are most people). Also another friend of mine knows kung fu and has gotten into several fights and did well. I know this from watching real fights, not from looking at the advertisement and handouts from my school. Why don't you bother to explain why traditional martial arts suck? How can you accuse others of foolishly sticking up for their art when you bash all traditional styles and provide little evidence for your statement? you get my point
  19. muay thai? underestimated? you have got to be joking... its the most overestimated art that i have ever heard of
  20. Wait.. you are saying that traditional martial arts are not real martial arts?
  21. Also I would like you to provide reasoning why it takes a whole ten years for one to be able to use a traditional martial art and just six months for pankration. Also why do you think that traditional techniques are useless?
  22. Yes, I agree that it the most important aspects of fighting are the individual and the training method. MuayThai Fighter, tell me why you think that you can't use any traditional styles to effectively fight. I agree with sevenstar, its laughable to claim that with just six months of training and in normal circumstances, a new pankration fighter will usually be able to defeat a black belt in a traditional art who has been training for more than ten years. Your reasoning behind this is because the black belt follows a traditional style. Based on what I have read from you, this is your reasoning: Traditional = outmoded and therefore useless for fighting. While Muay Thai is certainly an effective art, your claims are simply outrageous. With all due respect, I would like you to visit this website: https://www.lethalo.com ... you will see that your claims are very similar to that of this style.
  23. btw its called an au batido and for you breakdancers its called an L-Kick
  24. leave this site and go to https://www.trickstutorials.com they have a really helpful forum for martial arts acrobatics and some tutorials too good luck
