baseball bats in fights

I say this because my brother is very critical of all MA even though he knows virtually nothing about them. Though I don't claim to be a great fighter, he thinks that he, a relatively weak person, can defeat any martial artist if he is only given a baseball bat. He thinks that if Oyama approached him he would "envision his midsection as a baseball"(even though he doesn't play baseball) and swing it at him and therefore kill him. so tell me about your encounters with baseball bats -
have you ever been in a fight against someone with a baseball bat? what were the results? if not, what would you do in a fight against one?
-
Based on what I've heard, Kenpo usually doesn't allow full contact or kicks below the waste

not this argument again.... LETS just assume that they all have the exact same skill level and entered training at the same physical abilities and had training under equally skilled instructors. IN OTHER WORDS, what prepares you better for ring combat?

how about the sabaki challenge? do they allow punches to the head?

which one do you think would fare the best in a NHB fight?
-
Kyokushin and Shotokan would do well. Shotokan's techniques are designed to fight untrained fighters.

i think most of his power was generated from the coordination of his muscles. he practiced this focus and coordination for years

OK, the street fighter wouldn't win. Strength, skill, and ability to take pain are all important in fighting. A street fighter loses much of his potential fighting ability through bad form and ineffective and unsystematic fighting methods. A good martial artist has strength, toughness, AND technical prowess on his side (that is, one that actually competes in full contact fighting). Anyways, I think that three martial arts would have a good chance of winning. 1. Krav Maga. Based on my (limited) knowledge, Krav Maga focuses on all ranges of fighting and uses efficient (and dirty) methods to down an opponent. 2. San Soo. San Soo is a very balanced martial art. It is brutally effective and focuses on modern stand-up fighting, clinching, chin na, and throws. 3. Pankration/Shooto. Shootfighting combines the (arguably) most effective stand-up fighting art, Muay Thai, with the (arguably) most effective grappling art, BJJ. This makes it a very effective and balanced art.

Depends on the style. Shotokan and kyokushin are excellent for fighting. The rest, I don't know about

It depends on how they teach at your school. If you choose Kyokushin, they'll concentrate much more on sparring and bag-work. If your Shotokan school teaches lots of Kata, applications, stand up grappling, and self defense, then Kyokushin would definently balance it out.

I hate when people bash karate, my brother always calls my instructor 'karate man' and says that if he got into a real fight he would have a heart attack and that karate is useless for fighting and stuff

which one do you prefer? why? what are similarities and differences?
