  1. i think its bullshit
  2. boxing is held in much higher regard then any traditional martial arts
  3. You're the perfect age, though I wouldn't recommend you take Tae Kwon Do. You're still young enough to pick up things quickly and develop them into your memory, but not too young to have a short attention span and bad focus. Your just old enough to appreciate your art.
  4. forms are simply another method of doing this. whether or not it is a good one is a matter of opinion.
  5. You're lying. I don't think its possible to do 400 pushups.
  6. Then your school is an exception, not only that but it can't really be counted because its not exclusively TKD.
  7. 10 years old. any younger and you wouldn't appreciate the art. younger people have shorter attention spans and would gain less out of training
  8. No, Black Dragon, it doesn't require me to see many. Why don't you ask how many TKD practitioners on this forum practice the above mentioned aspects of fighting? I've seen several schools and none of them have.
  9. I have to disagree, Black Dragon. 95 % of TKD schools won't train with elbows, knees, grappling, ground fighting, clinching, or for the most part even hand strikes. Also, I have yet to see a TKD school that teaches applications for their forms. MT and BJJ may be sports, but unlike TKD, they have proven their worth in NHB fights, which are as close to real fights as sports can get.
  10. Its called kyokushin karate, buddy
  11. And a short bow is a superior weapon to an escrima stick.
  12. There is a wushu course offered at the chinese school I attend, I was thinking of joining just for fun and fitness.
  13. That knowledge has long since been lost
  14. Honestly, would any of you use some of the applications for kata in a fight against an experienced person? Some of the grappling moves seem unrealistic, especially those in heian shodan
  15. By the way, there are no modern samurai. And the topic was samurai vs. Kali warrrior, not samurai vs. modern filipino soldier. A Kali warrior uses kali and probably has a stick. =P
  16. Jerry, you are making a relatively simple question quite complicated. I think its implied that the Kali warrior doesn't carry an assault rifle.
  17. At any range, the samurai would win. Long range, the Kali warrior would be dead before they knew what hit them. Katana have longer range than sticks and are bladed weapons, therefore superior. The samurai would also win in medium range. Being expert grapplers with weapons, they would win in close range.
  18. The Samurai would win hands down. Samurai carried bows, which are more than a match for any bludgeoning weapon.
  19. if you can beat your instructor, you better quit
