Too old to start?
aznkarateboi replied to The Red Guy's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
You're the perfect age, though I wouldn't recommend you take Tae Kwon Do. You're still young enough to pick up things quickly and develop them into your memory, but not too young to have a short attention span and bad focus. Your just old enough to appreciate your art. -
kata application helpful for real fighting?

forms are simply another method of doing this. whether or not it is a good one is a matter of opinion. -
TKD bashing?

Then your school is an exception, not only that but it can't really be counted because its not exclusively TKD. -
10 years old. any younger and you wouldn't appreciate the art. younger people have shorter attention spans and would gain less out of training

TKD bashing?
aznkarateboi replied to NightShade_UK's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
No, Black Dragon, it doesn't require me to see many. Why don't you ask how many TKD practitioners on this forum practice the above mentioned aspects of fighting? I've seen several schools and none of them have. -
TKD bashing?
aznkarateboi replied to NightShade_UK's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I have to disagree, Black Dragon. 95 % of TKD schools won't train with elbows, knees, grappling, ground fighting, clinching, or for the most part even hand strikes. Also, I have yet to see a TKD school that teaches applications for their forms. MT and BJJ may be sports, but unlike TKD, they have proven their worth in NHB fights, which are as close to real fights as sports can get. -

there is no "real" bunkai -
At any range, the samurai would win. Long range, the Kali warrior would be dead before they knew what hit them. Katana have longer range than sticks and are bladed weapons, therefore superior. The samurai would also win in medium range. Being expert grapplers with weapons, they would win in close range.
