  1. Lets face it. Some styles have training methods and principals that allow for greater power generation than other styles i.e. shotokan. Some styles stress and train for faster attacking. What do you think is the "fastest" style and please don't say its based on the person because that is obvious but which style do you think will make a person fastest? Based on what I heard I would choose either american kenpo or wing chun.
  2. "i.e if there was one best style, no one would argue about it." Why do you think so? So many styles claim to be the best that no one can be sure which one actually is. Unless as I said earlier a detailed analysis was done of every art. And even then every one has their own biases. But if any style is better than another for self defense, i.e. KM and TKD, then the one that is better than the rest is the best, no? I'm going to eat dinner with my friends now. Peece out
  3. Clearly not all styles are made equal. i.e. a TKD'ist is 95% of the time less prepared for a street encounter than a Krav Maga'ist. Thus KM is better for self defense, simply put. If not all styles are equal and some are simply better than others for self defense, than the one that is better than all of the others for self defense can be called the best. Is that not true? PS: Don't ask me to name the best style. To do this would require a detailed analysis of every art in existence. The best art IS out there, don't let your ignorance tell you that it is not.
  4. I think I made it pretty clear that there IS a best art. And you say that there is NO best art. Thus, I am not as you said "agreeing with you". If you would care to elaborate I would appreciate it.
  5. I think that in your attempt to argue, you have missed the fact that you didn't justify your statement.
  6. No. If a question is disputed, does that mean that an answer does not exist? I didn't think so. "so what you are saying, is that even if someone said there was a best art, it's not true..." You could make your statement true by adding the word 'neccesarily' before the word "true". "so there is no best art." If any art is superior by any amount to any other art in terms of self defense, then yes, there is a best art.
  7. "why are some arts inherently better than others?" Different factors. Purpose, scientific knowledge, innovations, real world testing, simplicity, etc. "if there is one best art, then why isn't everyone doing that art? (seeing as all others MUST be inherently worse...) " Because not everyone will agree. People naturally are biased for their own arts. "if no one agrees then there is no best art." That's not neccesarily true. What if a bunch of people suddenly concluded that the Thailnd was in reality the most powerful nation. Would that make it true? Only in their eyes. And they would most likely be Thais themselves.
  8. "look, if there was ONE superior style we'd all be doing it already... " No. Wrong. Since some styles are inherently better than others, there has to be a best style. However, everyone's opinion of it differs. Thus, not everyone would agree on one "Best style".
  9. American Kenpo seems like a great system, but for some reason whenever i see a clip or picture of kenpo practitioners they are ridiculously overweight.
  10. could you tell some things about american kenpo? by hardcore i meant the training methods are very physically demanding.
  11. what are the similarities and differences? i know that american kenpo is more scientific and kyokushin is more hardcore
  12. hmmm does that mean that the most effective way of striking with fists is to throw rapid punches at the head with no control?
  13. does that mean that wild punches are the way to beat any striker? i doubt that my strategy is the ultimate in striking. if it was, then i don't see why striking would even be taught.
  14. .... that's what i thought
  15. then tell me the counter. i have not yet heard one valid one, only that it is a bad strategy. people dealt with wild punches? how?
  16. Yeah nice interview Eduardo.
  17. i got the idea after reading a chinese martial arts article that described the "leopard" style of fighting. which was wildly sending straight punches to the head with no regard for defense. that got me thinking "why wouldn't that work"?
  18. ok. why do people block, sidestep, brush, and duck? why not just continuously attack their head as fast as you can? if they block you can continue your attack, and if they sidestep you can turn to face them, and if they try to do a controlled attack they will be greeted by many punches in the face due to their letting their guard down. i know this question seems stupid but i can't seem to find an answer for it
  19. the fact that he is japanese means nothing
  20. one of taika oyata's students teaches very close to my area. they do kyusho tuite and atemi jutsu and they do ground fighting and full contact fighting with kata applications. if i could go to the past i would have joined that school
  21. well to make the "attack" more specific: have you ever watched a tae bo video? i watched one a long time ago in physical education and one of the exercises has the black guy extending his arms and "punching" with them in a circular manner. he was doing this while raising his feet in an attempted kick one after the other moving forwards.
  22. well we were discussing martial arts and he suddenly decided to attack me as a "test". he is extremely underweight(100 pounds) which probably explains why he fell to the floor. he later told me that he used the same attack method on his younger brother and it worked
  23. i was at my friends house with a few other people, and one of them was feeling strange and suddenly attacked me. he approached me while punching extremely quickly and randomly with both hands while moving forward and kicking with his feet. i reflexively(and accidently) punched him in the stomach and he fell on the floor and it was really funny, just thought i'd share that experience lol
  24. Bruce was fast and strong. At their skill levels speed is more important then strength, because a few punches in the face would end it for any of them.
