  2. japan is just cool, lol. i've been there before for vacation, and it was a lot of fun. the people there are also very polite. luckily, my mother speaks japanese so we did not have many problems.
  3. why practice the grappling techniques though kata? why not practice them on partners? i'm not sure how realistic or effective practicing them in the air would be.
  4. its also a method of self defense
  5. um..... the nose is not made of bone it is made of cartilage, and it is physically impossible for the cartilage to travel up and pierce ur skull and enter your brain.. this has been scientifically debunked as an old wive's tale.

  10. shorinryu- yes your right i do try to apply them against punches but they usually fail. i'll remember to stop doing that. the main problem however is that even when i get a hold on them, despite me having a relatively strong grip they usually pull their hand away sharply or strike me with their other hand and i have a hard time applying their lock this way
  11. I have lots of trouble pulling off standing joint locks during sparring. Can anyone give me some tips to making them work? I saw a similar thread on bullshido which inspired me to post this thread

  13. ashida kim, paulie zink, and tom cruise
  14. Why pay money to have your kid learn nothing of value? Judging by my school's kids class which I have observed, your kid will learn MANY bad habits. The instructors are too nice to correct them especially becuase the aim is not to teach them not to fight.
  15. i'd say 12-13. BUT... GET YOUR KIDS TO STRETCH EVERY DAY! They are young and flexible and you don't want them to lose it.
  16. i'm just giving an example. i don't think being established suddenly makes it equal to other martial arts.
  17. I think it's a pretty well accepted fact that Muay Thai is better than aznkarateboi's gumming style. Therefore, not all styles are equal.
  18. he won by taking his opponet down and achieving the mount position. he also won a fight or two by arm-bar....sounds like a grappler to me. well, he's still a traditional stylist. who says traditional styles can't have grappling?
  19. Well, Steve Jennum, a ninjutsu practitioner won UFC 3.
  20. style matters. end of story. if it doesn't you'd be just as well of learning aznkarateboi's gumming style rather than shotokan
  21. lol wonder how many people join karate to learn how not to fight... lol i already know how not to punch somebody and if i didn't i would take therapy not learn how to punch harder!
  22. how do you condition your feigner's to make your finger strikes and spear hands more effective?
  23. actually, if you change it for the ring you have to take out what doesn't work and practice what does work like crazy.
  24. Before anyone uses the naem of Jeet Kune Do to defend Shaolin-Do, keep in mind that Do is also a cantonese word so if shaolin-do were cantonese it would be sil lum do, no?
