  1. videos can be helpful if you have a live, resisting training partner to train with you. that way, you'll be able to figure out the mistakes through trial and error.
  2. i know, but its still kind of weird. does this happen at any of your schools? seriously, if you saw my school doing the slipping drills and the bobbing and weaving and hooks, you'd have thought it was a kickboxing school not a kung fu school.
  3. my school is supposed to teach traditional kung fu, and they do teach traditional kung fu forms applications etc., but when it comes to sparring, its completely different! they start using uppercuts and hooks and even bobbing and weaving, basically it starts looking like american kickboxing. whats going on?
  4. folding mats are hella expensive too... does anyone know any web sites to get them for cheap?
  5. http://www.jumpusa.com/wrist.htm do you think that wrist rollers improve finger strength? i know they say they do, but it looks like it just works the wrist.

  7. lol im 14 and i started a few years ago, what is there to learn when your a little kid that you can't learn now?
  8. I don't have anything against TKD, actually I watched a Hapkido school and they did many kicks that were similar to TKD, so the question popped into my mind.
  9. Not to bash TKD, but Hapkido includes about every kick that is taught in TKD as well as punches, elbows, knees, headbutts, chops, throws, joint locks, etc. What does TKD have that Hapkido doesn't? Just wondering. Also, for Hapkidoists out there, what would you say is the percentage of striking to grappling in hapkido?
  10. Which one do you prefer? How do they compare with each other? Which focus more on which aspects? What are similarities and differences between the three styles?
  11. by defend i mean a counter
  12. how do you defend against a push? also, are pushes considered physical attacks?
  13. Because people don't think that syles that work in those competitions are ultimate, and that traditional ones suck.
  14. Wow something strange happened, after i read this post and went to bed i had a dream and a guy was doing grasshopper kung fu and a boy next to him kept on saying it was grasshopper kung fu
  15. I would recommend Hapkido. Hapkido, or at least a school near me, teaches punching, kicking, elbows, knees, joint locks, throws, ground fighting, head butting, sweeping, and more. It is excellent for self defense as well.
  16. Then how come noone from Kansas City did take Gracie?
  17. What are you looking for in a martial art? Self defense? Fun? Fitness? Performance art?
