  1. TJS, about the part where I say KM is not effective and not particularly nice to look at.... By exciting, I mean that the fighting is too straightforward and rigid. While this is effective in actual combat, I would much prefer to enjoy my sparring by doing a more exciting art. And by "not particularly nice to look at" I mean just that. One of the main plusses of martial arts is that they are attractive and impressive. Krav Maga is not. Unless you consider beating somebody to a bloody pulp impressive. Of course, that is not likely to happen. If you feel that you need the fighting skills and wish to sacrifice excitement, flashiness (which I must stress is absolutely despised in this forum), and money, then take Krav Maga by all means. Otherwise.........
  2. TJS, while Krav Maga is an effective method of fighting, the skills most likely will go to waste. Even though it is made for fighting on the street, those skills will go to waste because most people will never need them. It lacks other benefits that I would find appealing (it's my opinion, don't get angry). In fact, though most of the hardcore martial artists will open their mouths in disbelief when they read this, I would MUCH rather take TKD or wushu rather than KM because of two reasons. 1- As I said before, I think the flashiness (which is bashed and spat upon in this forum) will aid me more than the fighting skills that I will gain from KM (mostly because I will never have a need for them, but if you do, that's a different story). Let's face it, martial arts are arts and that is the main reason I learn it. 2- Similar to the above, no offense to the Krav Maga practitioners but if I am in a location where self defense is necessary, I would rather invest in a gun than invest hundreds of dollars in a martial art with no other benefits(again, in my opinion). Remember that this is only my view of the art. Please do not be offended.
  3. What is kenpo karate and how does it compare to other karate styles?
  4. well, its not really an art, more just a form of self defense for paranoids who think they will be attacked on the street. OK, im exaggerating A BIT. While KM will help you in street situations, the skills will most likely go to waste. Being purely self defense, it does not seem very exciting and it is not particularly nice to look at.
  5. started at 13, currently 13 doing tae kwon do , WANT to do karate
  6. ^^^^Note that he forgot to add "if I had a machine gun and body armor"
  7. http://www.lethalo.com/pages/1/index.htm This art will supposedly make a crippled old lady handily defeat a strong man. Too good to be true?
  8. I've heard a lot about both of them being great in close quarters combat. Some say that Wing Chun is better, some Boxing. So which one is really more effective?
  9. Is the wavemaster a good substitute for a real punching bag? also, can a very advanced and experienced karate student defeat a good boxing student?
  10. G95 , so you're saying that if they charge money for testing their a MCdojo?
  11. Self defense, of course!!!! Isn't that what TKD lacks? When I spar, I want the feeling that it might actually help me!! That I might actually fight in the real world remotely like that!
  12. I want a martial art that is: Relatively good for health. Fun. Relatively good for Self Defense. Effectived in street situations (similar to above) Somewhat pleasant to watch, but not too flashy. I was considering Karate, but if there are any other recommendations, then feel free to suggest. I am currently taking TKD, but it doesn't give what I am looking for. Does Karate make a good compliment to TKD?(no I'm not about to quit TKD, I've worked hard enough on it and it's not THAT bad)
  13. its a hybrid style, i took it at my chinese school and the teacher sucked ass so i quit. i think it has mainly karate, some aikido, some boxing, etc. and its vietnamese

  19. hey i've been on this forum for quite some time and i've decided to learn Boxing, Tae Kwon do, and a little bit of san shou wrestling. do you think this combination would be effective for self defense?
  20. Hey is TKD + Boxing a good combination? Also is boxing good for fights on the street?
  21. ned beaumont is an All-American biased bigot who shuns all asian martial arts as "useless"
  22. im new to martial arts and this forum, and i noticed that lots of people are bashing kicking and saying its useless in a fight. doesnt kicking do more damage and have longer range than punches? so why do they suck?
