  1. The question is are the MA's teaching you to kill or to spar or competitive fighting? Sure most MA's can be used to kill, but I would say the deadly MA's are the one's that teach you how to kill.
  2. I think it's a good idea to add some sort of workout to your daily life. MA's can be a good workout, especially if you train everyday and have a good diet. I don't see how MA wouldn't help someone get and keep in shape. It's helping me. I personally think that TKD in less complex than Shoalin Kung Fu. I never studied Shaolin, but it seems very interesting. The similarities are that they both employ quite a bit of athleticism and flexibility. I would say that SKF seems more acrobatic than TKD. Shoalin covers various weapons and also has religious aspects to it. I would say Shoalin has more in common with Hwa Rang Do than with TKD.
  3. I often hear comments being made like, " this is a no frills MA." So the question is what are people referring to when they say this? What are the FRILLS they speak of?
  4. I don't study Aikido, but I love the Hakama pants.
  5. ah^gao well said brother. Modern people want it everything fast. Things that take time must not be good, is the Modern philosphy. Honor is dead.
  6. Personally I think it depends on why you study MA's in the first place. Most people will never need to use their MA in a real situation. I've only used my Kung Fu in 2 situations in the last 10 years. One was to break up a fight, the other was a fight. By the way I love all the history, it's fascinating.
  7. Isn't Drunken boxing supposed to trained while your drunk? Count me in!
  8. Has anyone heard of this Indian MA called KALARIPPAYATTU? Here's a link, looks pretty trippie. http://polyglot.lss.wisc.edu/tnd/kalari/power.html#system
  9. I think Men have the weakness of underestimating women.
  10. risingdragon are you serious about this, because I can't tell if your trying to be funny. I think your idea is interesting, but there is much more to MA's than just techniques. So unless you have studied the MA's all the different techniques came from, I would say you probably would not understand how to properly execute the respective technique. Also some styles vary so much that you would have to learn many ways of moving, and thus it would be too confusing.
  11. If you get in a fight and you are sued for being a black belt, than schools should change the ranking system to something like stripes or polka dotted belts. Loop hole
  12. I think with your experience you will catch on quickly. Good Luck
  13. GreenDragon I feel the same way about the gym and that was also a factor for me to do MA's. Sounds like your enjoying Muy Thai, that's great. I also found weight training at home was more enjoyable to me, than going to a health spa or gym.
  14. Well, than I can't blame you for having passion for the subject of History. Chao! Off to pratice myself.
  15. Well History is never really 100% true anyway, so getting to caught up in whether it's "true" or not isn't really that important. I agree I find history really interesting, but I'm not gonna die if I find out Budo Taijutsu came from Indonesia. It wouldn't make a difference to me where it came from, it doesn't make it any less of artform. You will always find books on a specific subject that will contradict one another. Concensus is not truth, we can never really know the truth. So I personally don't care about accuracy, I'm more interested in the many points of view there are on a given subject. That's what I meant by I don't care.
  16. When I first started it was just for fun. After many years of study, it changed. I realized the reason I study Martial Arts is that it's so much fun. If it wasn't fun I wouldn't do it at all, I don't care about the defensive aspect of it anymore. Although that is a plus. It's really fascinating to me, especially the grappling and locks, fun!!!!!!
  17. I would say humans are the best at Karate, and men and women too. But women look better than men doing it, Karate.
  18. What MA's coming from Korea to Japan, really? Just kidding. I could be wrong, but didn't a lot of Japanese MA's come from China through Korea? It's not hard to believe, besides didn't most Asian MA's originate from China? I'm not a history buff and I don't really dwell on historical accuracy, if there is such a thing. I do find history very interesting though. Give the guy a break it's not a court of law, people express themselves differently. Simantics, simantics, simantics, who cares?
  19. TheHitman585 I read some descriptions of the punch you are referring to online. Can you explain it in your words. From what I gathered it seems to be very similar to some of the Togakure Ryu punches we use, which come out of nowhere. They don't cork screw and they are thrown in unison with the entire body. Do you guys use the word Kamae in your dojo? Thanks
