Ninjutsu
Treebranch replied to Joecooke007's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Ninjutsu is now Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Some people explained pretty much what happened with the name change. Anyway you can learn more about Taijutsu if you go to most any Bujinkan website. Basically they teach 9 schools of fighting, ranging from various weapons to unarmed fighting, to stealth. 7 of the schools are basically fighting arts the Samurai Warriors used in Combat, they cover weapons and fighting. The other 3 are Ninpo schools that teach Ninjutsu tactics and fighting. All I have to say about it is that it is extremely fun and extremely effective. This is not the only MA I've studied, so my opinion is based on experience in other MA's and actual fights I've had in the street. I highly recommend it to any MA enthusiast. -
martial art:names and descriptions!!!!!

I study Budo Taijutsu, read this interview with Hatsumi Sensei. It will give you a good idea what it's about. http://www.taijutsu.com/faq.htm -
Kirves said: You're absolutely right. I never studied under a JKD instructor. I'm sure that would make it clearer, but if I knew what it was all about I wouldn't have the pleasure of discussing it with you. I read a description of the philosophy and concepts behind JKD. I have to tell you it doesn't sound like anything new. I study Budo Taijutsu and it sounds very similar to what we are taught. It sounds like basic common sense to me. I've studied other MA's and I remember alot of the techniques that seemed not to work well. Now that my Taijutsu is pretty good I can make those techniques work eliminating movements that don't work. I would highly recommend Taijutsu even just to learn the basics, the Kamae. Now I can pretty much look at any technique from other MA's and see why they work, or what will make them better, sound like JKD? If this is what you meant, than JKD sounds great. What about weapons? What kind of weapons training does JKD have?

PRANKration is basically a MMA with a cool name. True Ancient Greek Prankation is a lost Art. Doesn't mean this New "Prankration" is not effective, but it is obvisiously has some good marketing in its favour. Westerners will take to it quicker and it sounds exotic. Anyway getting back to the topic. Sometimes untrained people can be scary to fight. Some people have this wildness that is unpredictable, and merely trading punches might be a big mistake. Never underestimate a person on the street. Good luck.

Again. Where's Bruce's fight history? Who did he ever fight? When is the point when someone is ready to create their own style? How good should you already be? Remember Bruce was already trained when he started coming up with his concepts of JKD. Some people aren't that creative and need instruction. He was also a highly. self motivated individual, alot of people need external motivation to learn. All I'm saying is, invent your own style. based on what? Where's your base? You must have a base? You're not going to learn at the MA buffet. You have to atleast be very proficient at one MA. Don't you think.

The belt is in the ring
Treebranch replied to MuayThai Fighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
MuayThaiFighter get off the Kata thing, it's getting old. I study a so called TMA and I've never done a Kata. We train with sparring and full contact with proper gear. We go really light when the techniques can cause damage. Not everyone studies MA's to step into the ring. That's why MA's is so great, you can choose the one that best suits you. I'm an Artist first a MA practitioner second. If I damage my hand I can't draw and I don't eat. Get it. Why would I risk that? So should I not study MA's because I'm not going to step in the ring? That's silly man. Can I handle myself in a street fight, Hell Yeah! So what! That's not why some of us train. The ring proves your good in the ring, Great if that's your goal. -

Hoyce was great, but what happened to them? What are they doing know? Seems like people were able to adapt to them pretty quickly. -
bjj for self defense
Treebranch replied to aznkarateboi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Sure BJJ can be used for self defense, but it's mostly a ground fighting MA. So if there's no ground you're out of luck. Just joking. I think there are other MA's out there better suited for self defense. But BJJ would be a good addition to any fighting style. -
From what I have seen it is highly effective, very similar to Kung Fu San Soo. Brutal style.

I agree FTGU.

Hoyce or Rickson, or Shamrock or Bas Rutten or maybe Tito Ortiz or maybe Ruas or Belfort. If you consider these guys any old grappler you should reaccess. Where's Bruce's fight history? Who did he ever fight? Sorry, no disrepect to Bruce, but let's be realistic. JKD is great and all, but it's not the end all to MA's.

TOP UN ARMED MARTIAL ARTS I CAN THINK OF
Treebranch replied to MuayThai Fighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There are MA's out there that don't compete that are very effective. I think the only difference is in the training of these MA's. If you trained someone as hard as some of these MMA pro fighters train in something like Kung Fu San Soo or Krav Maga and they have a natural ability to fight, they would hold there own with anyone. It's not the MA. IT'S THE FIGHTER. If your a NHB fan than you are only seeing certain MA's being displayed here. Not because these are the "Best MA's", but because these MA's that are now being Mixed for these competitions have always been in the competition circuit. Basically, Muay Thai (Sport Art), BJJ (Sport Art), Shoot Fighting (Sport Art), Savate (Sport Art), so I hope you see what I'm getting at. The MA's that have always been in the Competition Circuit are the MA's you see in NHB and MMA competitions. Most people who are fans only see and study the MA's that are popular because of these fights. So there is a whole world of MA's out there that are just as effective. YOU JUST HAVEN'T SEEN THEM YET. Maybe the philosphy behind these MA's are against Competition for one reason or another, that doesn't mean they don't work. -
broomhilda000 said I never said Bruce claimed he was the best, but some fans claim he was the best. I think it's great to try to be the best at something, he was the best movie martial artist of his time. JKD is not the best MA, there is no Best MA. The word Best ( One that surpasses all others ) is a word that has a temporary use, it's an opinion not a fact. There is always someone better, but even that person is not the best.

Kensai said I studied San Soo and I've watched quite of few San Shou fights and I have to say that they are very different. San Soo is a Combat MA, and San Shou is a Competition Fighting Art, big difference. I'd say San Soo is more of a grappling art than San Shou. Check the clips out and then go to Cung Le's sight and watch him fight. http://www.cungle.com/

MuayThaiFighter said Same reason some people go to College and get a degree as oppose to going to a Trade School. To gain knowledge. I already knew how to fight before a got into Martial Arts, but now I have a better understanding of it.
