Hide your kicks. They will appear to be fast because your opponent won't see them. Try front kicks when your in close, don't get fancy.

What is the purpose of Martial Arts
Treebranch replied to Hannibal's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Martial Arts mean different things to different people. Some people like to fight and some people like to study Martial Arts and some people that like to fight study Martial Arts. Martial Arts serves each individuals purpose for studying it in the first place. Plus some people like to fight in the ring and compete and some don't. I love Martial Arts and it serves my purpose just fine. I don't like when people judged other people for doing what they enjoy doing, just because it differs with someone's beliefs or opinions. I think it's very dangerous for people to get cocky and think their MA is going to make them invincible. These type of people are setting themselves up for a big fall. -
Some people should think before they speak. To say things are pointless is just showing someone's ignorance. Muy Thai Fighter you just don't know what your looking at. Some Martial Arts are for people that are smart.

When people bounce around on me I just keep my distance and wait for them to commit to an attack. Then I close the distance and destroy.

TKD vs Karate
Treebranch replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
thaiboxerken said: I agree and disagree with your statement. I agree good technique, tactics and training are essential to any MA. The only thing is some people will be very proficient in an Art but never be a great fighter. Great fighters like great basketball players have a greater propensity and innate talent that is already there. Some people have greater desire, but will never be as good as those prodigies. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but very few. This fact never stopped me from training. -
Karate vs Kung fu
Treebranch replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think it's safe to say Karate what ever kind it is has huge similarities between them. Kung Fu on the other hand has huge differences between each style of Kung Fu. Just compare Wu Shu to San Soo or Wing Chun to Shoalin, they are very different. So basically Kung Fu is too broad to compare to Karate. -

Sorry I didn't mean to say Schizophrena could be helped with MA. Those people are sick and need medical attention and lots of therapy. It's when they go off their medication that they can't separate reality from their dellusions. There was no mention that he was a Martial Artist, just that he was a fan of Highlander. I know if I snapped knowing what I know, I would have killed more than 2 people. That is why with someone who is sane, MA's can be a way to curb those violent tendencies. A schizophrenic does not have the mental capacity to know what is real or a delusion. Medication is the only thing that keeps them functional. -

Shotokan_Fighter you obviously have never experienced San Soo. One word BRUTAL! -
Kicking to the groin really freaks guys out. Kick to the groan, hammer blow to the nose, kick to the knee. These usually make people think twice about continuing the fight. They think to themselves " This guy's nuts"

Move and hit the arm. Move yourself offline. If you are going to move back, move back on a 45 degree angle. You can move a little or alot, whatever fits the situation. Remember when you move back too far you have to restart everything. I prefer moving to the outside of the attack on a 45 degree angle towards the person, and use hidden strikes. Hidden strikes come from places that are outside the person range of vision. Like underneath to the chin or to the blindspots on both sides of the head. I hope this makes sense.

You can go directly from a block to a backfist. Use your body with that strike it is brutal.

Ninjutsu

Yeah, sounds like the teacher is irresponsible. I've never been hurt while doing this stuff, bruised and banged up a little. Take it as slow as you need to. -

According to the article he was a long time fan of Highlander and collected the swords. I don't think he was a Martial Artist of any kind. I would hope that Martial Arts would give one the discipline and develop one's character as to cope with trying situations. I see my training as an outlet as oppose to actual violent behavior. Not that I'm violent or anything. -
Art vs art?!?!?
Treebranch replied to Martial_Artist's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Double leg takedown, single leg takedown, overhand left and right, Jabs, kicks to the groin, Wild attack with flurry of punches to head, head butts, straddling person on ground and pound, hair pulling, biting, various chokes, head lock, rear choke, low kicks to legs. These are a few I've seen throughout the years. If you think of any let me know. The goal for me here is not to claim a common Streetfighter is better, but that you can find common techniques among Untrained Common Streetfighters. -
Art vs art?!?!?
Treebranch replied to Martial_Artist's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Thanks for the education. In reality Art vs. Art can only be discussed if the person discussing or debating the Arts at hand have been studied by the persons in the debate. Therefore, I bet you can find standards in the common untrained street fighter. -
Very nicely put Ninjanurse. Ninjanurse did you ever study Ninjutsu?

Style Vs. Style Right? Street Brawler Vs. Karate, aren't those styles? -
There are some strikes depending on how effective at striking you are, that can at least stun someone long enough so you can get out of the way. I've noticed that most people panic when you shoot in on them. If you move and drop low onto one knee with your back straight and strike to the nose or lower jaw it should stun or drop the person. It's risky, but he won't get your legs and dump you on your head.
