  1. Sansooser am I losing you to Judo? Say it isn't so. What happened to San Soo? You studied San Soo right? Now you know that San Soo teaches you how to Jack someone right away, they don't wait until you're a Black Belt. In real Combat Art has to be able to teach you how to defend yourself against anyone right away in a short period of time. If you were going to Combat how quickly can Judo teach you to be effective? Sure the throws are great to learn and the grappling, but San soo has that with viscious strikes to vital areas. Would you say Judo is as brutal as San Soo?
  2. I would match force to get this "Person" to stop their attack. I don't care if they are children, women, old men, etc, they shouldn't be attacking anyone.
  3. I studied TKD and if you like competitions and being very limber, than this is the art for you. But don't be fooled, it's not a complete fighting system. I'm not bashing it, but you have to ask yourself why you study it. If you are studying it to be a great fighter, study something that will teach you to fight.
  4. Ninpo Taijutsu or Budo Taijutsu has huge similarities to Jujutsu, because many of the Budo Taijutsu Ryu are Jujutsu, but not all of them. The Ninjutsu Ryu are not Jujutsu based, they are very different.
  5. They could have thrown cans of soup at his head, or bottle of beer. They could have got some shopping carts and rammed him with them. They just didn't know what to do. After seeing someone die you think they would have booked. I would have gone to the section with the kitchen knifes and I would have thrown them at him. I'm pretty good at throwing knife and stuff.

Jimmy H. Woo was Chinese and the founder of Kung Fu San Soo. http://www.kungfusansoo.com/
  7. Learn weapons based MA's they deal with this kind of stuff all the time, if it's reality based at all it does.
  8. Good thinking Synasthesia, but ouch! That's brutal. I like it!
  9. Hey TJS I would let you hit me in the face if we were sparring. I mean how am I supposed to learn how to move realistically if you can't punch to the head. In a real situation that's the number one target people go for. A punch to the head is alot harder to handle than a kick to the head. TKD kicks aren't as powerful as they could be, especially the round house kick. It's kind of a snapping kick, Muy Thai kicks I'd worry about. Keep walking into him and he won't be able to get any high kicks in.
  10. the-wayis-noway I know how you feel I went through the same thing. Most of the guys in my TKD class were smaller and faster than me. But if I unleashed I would destroy them. I always had to hold back, these were my instruction from my teacher. I quit. I went to a San Soo school and my eyes were opened. This was real fighting, quick and dirty, nothing too fancy. If you want to be effective against almost anyone, study a Combat Style MA like San Soo or Wing Chun, Krav Maga. If you want a Sport Art that will teach you effective techniques Judo, Muy Thai, BJJ, Kyokushin Karate. TKD isn't the most realistic MA for fighting.
  11. Yeah, that's really cool Synaesthesia. The thing is that techniques were used in real Combat at one time and in order to fight for a long period of time with many attackers, you had to be efficient. If you just used your arm all die to swing your sword, you'd tire quickly and be killed. Using the hips and footwork to wield a sword is much more efficient and powerful. Take swimming for example, if you just used your arms to swim you'd tire out fast. If you just used your legs, same thing. But if you use your whole body in unison along with controlled breathing, you could swim fairly long distances. It is my opinion that this concept is key to any worth while Martial Art.
  12. For the most part I agree, but try telling that to your attacker. About public contest, I agree. But when the day comes you'd better know what to do, and do it quickly.
  13. Yeah, but you don't want to destroy your training partner. I meant try it slow when practicing it, or your hurt your partner. Yeah that is the point.
  14. How about Lasic surgery? If you eye sight is horrible, this may help you. I wear glasses, but not to class.
  15. That's sounds great, Silat looks like fun. I was referring to Kung Fu San Soo (Jimmy Woo) not San Shou (Cung Le). Have you ever seen this MA, it's pretty brutal.
  16. Which one of these martial arts is the most brutal and realistic. Please explain why. Which one would work better against any style. Just curious.
  17. Prodigal Son. It's not that we don't respect boxers. It just that if you fight a boxer the stupidest thing you can do is try to box them. The length of someone's arms are an advantage in Boxing because the sport of boxing requires the fighters to go toe to toe. I wouldn't dare fight a Boxer that way. I would tie him up and take him down where he has no training. Are you saying MA's can't fight, what do call Belfort, Ruas, Tito Ortiz, Shamrock they're MA's aren't they? I think most Boxers wouldn't want to fight NHB, that takes a certain kind of person to do that stuff. Nobody doubt that a Champion Boxer is well conditioned and can hold his own, but I was referring to a real life and death fight, not a ring match. If you don't see a difference between the two, oh well.
  18. Hey Jerrylove I saw those clips on Clearsilat.com it looks pretty cool. It has some similarities to the stuff I'm learning. Have you ever tried San Soo or Budo Taijutsu techniques, I think you'd enjoy them.
  19. Boshiken strike would be the same with a knife and or key, pen, etc.
  20. Come on there is no Best fighter, there's always someone better. Just be as good as you can be and stop worrying about that best *, cause it doesn't exist. People get excited about the MA they study and they all think they found the answer to all fighting, but they haven't. Even the greatest fight lost sometimes. But as far as the best for self defense, I think MA's that train for real scenarios are better for self defense than sport arts or MA's that don't study weapons.
  21. Yeah, I'm really familiar with animal styles. Do you have a link I can look at. I love Kung Fu because they have so many little hidden gems in the techniques that many people don't know are there.
  22. Killer 13 why don't you go try Aikido then get back to us. I think you'll have a rude awakening.
  23. I agree Warp Spider that's way you must learn to counter accordingly. Your not understanding what I said if your using a weapon the other person might not know it's there. If it's a knife or a gun and you intend on killing them, don't show it to them first. So what's wrong with using the knife the same way you use your fists, depending on your fighting art that may work quite well. I know how to use weapons that is what I am studying, your foot work and body movements are essentially the same with or without a weapon. The things that change is mostly distance and timing. But your right I usually don't punch to the carotid artery or the femoral artery, etc.
  24. So your saying that if you go with the throw and you know how to roll out of throws, there's no way out of this stuff, come on. They teach you guys counters to this stuff right. Try the same throws without bending your back, drop your hips down so you don't have to bend. Try it and see what happens. Do it slow cause you might destroy the person your trying it on.
