  1. Interesting, I guess he is talking about what in the US is termed a Mc Dojo. Andre is JKA, and lives in Japan. http://www.andrebertel.blogspot.co.nz/2015/11/budo-karate-true-or-non-budo-karate.html
  2. Good for you Dark Ranger!
  3. Circuit training...........................................................
  4. As our lives progress we can find ourselves with more responsibilities and less time "for ourselves". 2 things spring to mind. "Prioritize" and "communication" I have never been good at either and it has cost me , more than once, in my personal life. For yourself, work out or prioritize where everything fits into your life. Communicate this to the important people in your life. I am one that does everything 110% so with MA I find it very hard to "throttle back" because of what other people want. If yo are passionate (which it sounds like you are) then you will have to decide if you want to comprimise........
  5. IIRC wasn't the only real rule no eye gouging, You could go for the balls but win or lose you were fined $10k to do it. This way it was discouraged. I may be wrong, but that seems to be what I remember from the time.
  6. I know exactly what you are talking about, even my daughter who trains with me complains that it's like she is not even there for me when I am training. There are not a lot of things out there that can demand such high levels of concentration, pretty much all the time.
  7. Carry the morning paper with him when he goes out if it's thick enough...............................
  8. This and using dumb bells is common here.................... perhaps it's an individual CI thing or maybe ask some one at Honbu for clarification.
  9. That, and also even though you do every exercise properly, with speed and still you end up last to finish, shows in the next grading tho...........
  10. Good luck! Pics when you can please!
  11. Agree with you there, never do any point sparring at all in our dojo, it's all free sparring at an agreed level of intensity, typically leaving me with plenty of bruises to reflect on for the rest of the week..................
  12. I have several, but one that I see everytime I go to the dojo is poorly tied, or overly long or short belts.
  13. OK a little assistence seems appropriate. 2 Options to download. Option 1. connect USB cable from camera to computer, with for it to download the drivers required and then select view folders from the options you are given, then copy or cut and paste from camera directory to computer folder where you want the video to go. Or else, remove memory card from camera WHILE IT IS POWERED DOWN. I. E. off. insert card into card reader of computer if it has one, then follow the steps as above. Or else you can be sure that there is a Youtube tutourial out there that will help. Good luck.
  14. Yeap I agree, been doing the old fashion stretching for a while now and progressing, but......... it is 2015, and I have been greatly influenced by the attitudes of today's society, so I want results faster (AKA NOW!).
  15. Yeap they aren't cheap and if I add shipping and maybe duty I'm in the hole for around $400, so I want to get it right. They look the ducks nuts for solo stretching. with the goal being getting closer towards splits.
  16. Anyone had any experiance with the mechanical stretchers, the ones with the wheel in the middle????? Any preferred brand/model???? Are they efficient? Do they work ? I'm a 50+ yr old with concrete joints............. Any comments welcome. Thanks, Bull
  17. This guy also does a lot of kicking tutourials as well as stretching ones. He's pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAGlOxmYbmXMifHpB43P2XQ
  18. Or bung it in the drier for 15 minutes and pull it out as soon as the cycle is finished.
  19. Empi . Got it. Thanks for the update.you got a Video of you doing it yet?
  20. I was thinking of something like these: http://www.blackbeltshop.com/adidas_low_cut_white_sneaker.htm Casual street wear, but still with enough flex for kicking.............
  21. I've thought about this also, and have been tempted to buy some of those martial arts sneakers that are for sale on some sites. I wonder if they are any good? Anyone had any experience with them?
  22. I don't train at Shibu, but will attend their annual camp coming up. Yes, it's the dojo having the 50th anniversary. JR, You know of Andre Bertel then?
  23. Those early UFCs were as close to "the real deal" that we have had I believe, not perfect but still were great weren't they! Every guy that went into that octagon was nervous as all hell, mainly cause nobody really knew what to expect and how it was all going to work out. And I agree, it was geared to showcase the Gracies as we saw once everyone else realized the game was won on the ground and started X training. Pity K1 didn't take off in the US, there were some great K1 fights..............
  24. I have seen a few Gis at our dojo that are some sort of cotton sheet looking material, I remember thinking that they would be perfect for training in tropical climes...
  25. I would think that a lightweight Gi would be cooler than a clingy cotton T shirt wouldn't it????
