Solid Post! When I see students get double graded I think that they must have deserved it and been very talented. I've never seen my instructor double grade anybody. Although he did promote me from 8th to 6th Kyu outwith the grading cycle. Only the second time in 47 years teaching he's done that, so I felt mighty privelaged when he done so. Mo.

That's describes what I feel to a great extent, I would only add that it's very hard to remember Break it down into manageable sections. Concentrate on the first 5 or 6 moves, practice only them until you've got it in your head, then move on to the next 5 or 6 and so on. Once you've got to the end, put it all together and practice the whole thing, after a while it will become second nature to move through the whole kata. I often take a particular part of a kata and practice it over and over until I find I'm better understanding it. Practice once, practice twice, practice "Mo Ichido" - One more time! Mo.

Everybody has some part of their particular martial art they don't like so much. Some kata, some sparring. I don't particularly like Ippon gummite but, I like kata. Try breaking the kata down and look at the bunkai to it, if you have more of an idea what each move could potentially be, then you might like it a bit better. Mo.

I always get a blister on the crease under my big toe, it always is the right foot too, never the left. And because of where it is, it takes forever to heal. So I use the finger tape that mountain climbers use to protect their knuckles, it stays on and doesn't come loose until you take it off. It works an absolute treat. Mo.

That's fantastic. I'd love to be able to pop in and practice at any time! Beats my garage on a freezing December day, hands down! Mo.

Where to start training again?
mazzybear replied to bball197046's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Why not try a few classes of each and find out which one suits you best? Most classes will give you a free first class, so take advantage of that to try them out. I would be wary of starting two arts at once though, especially if you're new to or been away from the MAs for a while, it could be counter productive, at least in the beginning. Mo. -

Welcome back Justice. I'm so glad you've had the strength and bravery to do what you needed to do and, I wish you and your husband well and hope you both can be happy and comfortable within yourselves now. Don't ever feel that you can't post asking about ANYTHING you may be struggling adjusting to. We're a community here at KF and you're a big part of that community. Hopefully you find your way back to the MAs also . Be safe. Mo. -

Starting Muay Thai !
mazzybear replied to Safroot's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Hey Safroot! Long time no speak, good to have you back!! I can't name any books on the history of Muay Thai but, philosophy wise have you searched for any on Buddhism and Muay Thai? The two seem pretty interwoven, so maybe there's an avenue to explore there? Mo. -
Surprisingly hard for their size. They are so much fun. Unfortunately we cant afford to play them for too long or the local seals will have them for supper But for a fish with an average weight of 1-2lb, I was shocked at the power in them. And you really can't beat freshly caught mackerel cooked in the smoker, it really doesn't get much better than that! Mo.

Five Years on Staff for sensei8!

Congratulations, Bob!! You were definitely the first person to respond to my first post on KF and your welcoming manner really struck a chord with me. Thanks for all your contributions you've made in the past and, undoubtedly will make in the future. Mo. -
Love the replies, guys. Right now it's pike time over here, so I'm dead baiting on the float just now. But, I'm getting a lure rod and baitcaster at Christmas, so looking forward to landing some pike on the lure. Definitely prefer the summer fishing though, was out last week for 8 hours without a bite in-5 temperatures. Was like a frozen snotter by the end of the day. I live on the coast so spring/summer is good for mackerel. Never tried fly fishing yet but it's on the list. Mo.

I don't think it's much to do with deodorant to be honest. My white sports bras are yellowing on the elastic bands and I don't wear deodorant on my chest. I think it's more likely sweat that's the issue, if so there's not much you can do that you're not already doing. What kind of shirt do you wear under it? If it's just plain cotton, try switching to a moisture wicking material like you get with under armour and the like. The sweat dries quicker with these type of shirts. Mo.

Iron brew is the cheap stuff! It's Irn Bru!! The only country in the world that a soft drink by the coca cola co isn't the top seller? Scotland!! It's been our top seller for over a century. Best hangover cure in the world, a roll on squared sausage and a can of Irn Bru. Mo.

It's not a thing I've had to do and, I'm thankful for that. I've watched a couple programs where folk are trying to cut and it's brutal. The first one was a child fighter in Thailand, he was the family's only source of income, so, if he didn't fight, they didn't eat. The boy couldn't have been any older than 12, so he wasn't even fully developed within his own body, he was running miles a day in a sweat suit in the searing heat without taking any water on board. When that wasn't working fast enough, he was put in what can only be described as a sweat box, a small hole in the ground with steam pumped in, again, wearing a sweat suit. When they took him out he could barely stand, it was awful to watch. In the end he only just made the cut, he had to do this every fight and apparently it's common practice among child fighters in Thailand. In my opinion it's dangerous for adults, so for children it must be even riskier. The second program was a YouTube video of Christine "Cyborg" Santos in which she was trying to cut to 140lbs for her UFC fight. Watching the mental torture of her lying wrapped in towels with space heaters surrounding her then into saunas and only dropping 1/4lb at a time was horrendous. Again by the end of it she was barely able to stand. The mental and physical strain on the body for this practice can't be good, it's certainly not good to watch. Mo.

My diet is pretty simple: 40% protein 30% carbs 30% fats How I get that is different every day, my meats consist mainly of chicken and fish with the occasional steak thrown in, brown rice/pasta or sweet potato for carbs and fats from nuts, avocado, eggs and the occasional bit of cheese. I don't believe in "fad diets" like the Atkins or South beach and the like, and don't get me started on juice plus! Fuel your body correctly and exercise regularly and maintaining a healthy weight isn't difficult. Because I eat well if I want a bar of chocolate or a cake one day, I have it, I'll also have a burger or a pizza once a week, denying yourself such things only makes the risk of slipping higher. I recently read of a study where two groups of non-diabetic obese people were each given a different diet to try, one group were put on a calorie deficit and the other a diet like mine but, with one difference, they had chocolate cake for breakfast! It was very interesting to say the least, both groups lost weight at much the same rate up to a point, where the deficit group plateaued and the chocolate group continued to lose significant weight. They were less likely to slip from their diet and also kept the weight off longer if they did slip. The reasoning behind the findings was the chocolate kick started their metabolism in the morning quicker than normal and burned it off at a fast rate and also kept the sugar cravings in check for the rest of the day, so, they were less likely to "cheat" and snack on sugar through the day. So.... Chocolate cake all round? Mo.
