  1. Brilliant article!! An inspirational young man. I think it's great he's an ambassador for the hospital too. My friend had to travel to St. Louis a few years back with her child for SDR surgery due to CP and again more recently a different surgery on the calf muscle, so I've seen first hand the great work these Doctors do. Massive well done to your son!! Mo.
  2. In my opinion the fight would go something like this: Mo.
  3. Excellent answer!! Mo.
  4. Looks like Batman is edging it then. I have to say I'm somewhat surprised by this. But I'm staying firmly in team Superman!! Mo.
  5. a.k.a. "all of them." Well yeah!! Mo.
  6. .......... Batman or Superman? With the release of Batman v Superman coming up, I thought it appropriate to dredge up the old question: Who would REALLY win in a fight? Me being a huge Superman geek and growing up watching Christopher Reeve play Superman (I used to drive my mum crazy watching it every day!!!) I have to come down on his side. Why? Well, it's simple really, HE'S SUPERMAN!!! While I think Batman rocks, he is essentially just a man. OK he's highly skilled in Martial Arts (according to Batman.Wikia.com he has mastered 127 different arts) and he has some really cool gadgets, plus the Batmobile, none of this even brings him close to being on par with Superman, "The Man of Steel". With his superhuman speed, strength. laser eyes and super breath, also, not forgetting he can fly!!! All this adds up to Batman looking pretty tame in comparison. So in a fight Superman would win in mere seconds IMO. So just for geek out fun, who would win and why? Mo.
  7. At the moment Jion and Wanshu are receiving my focus as I require them for when I sit my Shodan later in the year. Also sharpening up all my Pinan Katas for the same reason. My favourite though, has to be Chinto, I think it's a beautiful Kata to watch and when you perform it right, it feels great. It's one that can go wrong very easily though. Mo.
  8. AGREED! Did anybody besides me notice that the referee was wearing heels? HEELS??? How the heck is she supposed to move? Part of ref's responsibilities is to QUICKLY get in between the fighters to breakup dangerous situations and to prevent injuries to the fighters. Again..in HEELS??? Sorry, I watched that vid twice..IMHO that whole match was a joke, from the venue, the judging, the fat old men sitting around the ring bored out of their minds and not paying attention ... HEELS??? Yes, I noticed the heels!! I had a chuckle to myself on that front. As to the axe kick, instant disqualification in my book. It was highly dangerous and irresponsible. Had she done it to the body I'd MAYBE think twice on it but, to the head is just plain wreckless. Mo.
  9. I like to read, I just finished a book on Miyamoto Musashi, anything Japanese is my preferred subject matter at the moment. I also love to bake with my 3y/o niece, and not to blow my own trumpet, I've actually discovered I'm not a bad baker at all Chilling with my 7y/o nephew and a star wars movie is up there too, geeking out over the Millennium Falcon and AT-ATs is hard to beat. Mo.
  10. I second that! I wear Under Armour 3/4 leggings under my gi pants, anything with wicking fabric that draws moisture will do. I never wear my gi without them now. Mo.
  11. I'm sure I read somewhere that Willie Nelson was a 5th Dan but, I can't recall in which Martial Art. Mo.
  12. Happy birthday Lupin1. Mo.
  13. Sounds good to me. Have fun...and by all means...RELAX...just teach!! Thanks Sensei8. I'll try my best on the relax part Mo.
  14. Thanks for the comments guys, I think going by Lupin1 and JR137 suggestions and shorten the 20 min segments down and introduce some other things in to take their place. I've got a few weeks to think on it, so hopefully it comes good in the end. Again thanks for the helpful suggestions. Very much appreciated. Mo.
  15. As I said in my original post, Tuesday's are conditioning classes. No whites are worn in these classes and it's mainly geared toward keeping us in shape. And the pad work is usually inline with the syllabus work we do on Thursdays and Sunday's, so it is actually geared toward MARTIAL ARTS. I'm just keeping in line with my instructors way of doing things. I am by no means an expert in taking classes, hence why I asked for advice. Mo.
  16. Apparently it's international women's week at the start of March and, to get in the spirit of it, our governing body has written to it's members to encourage them to have a female instruct a class (if the instructor isn't already a female of course). With our two Dan grade females having jobs that don't allow them to a lot of classes and, me being the highest ranking female outside of the Dan grades, that honour has fallen on me. I've been given my choice of night (Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday) I'm thinking as a Tuesday is fitness and conditioning rather than technical stuff, then that's the night to go for. But breaking it down isn't so easy. My rough sketch for a 90 minute class goes something like this: 15 min warm up (shuttle runs, coaching sticks, stretches etc) 20 min medicine ball exercises (twists, drops, throws etc) 20 min pad work hand drills (combinations, speed work) 20 min pad work leg drills (combinations, speed work) 15 min warm down (light jog, stretches) How does this sound? Too much, not enough, ok? Of course my instructor will be there keeping a careful eye on things and ready to step in should I need him. Mo.
  17. Major, MAJOR disrespect on their part. That's just not how you do things!! How did your colleague handle the situation? I know for sure if they had done this to my instructor, they would have left with a serious flea in their ear and possibly from one or two of the students also. Of course no violence but, they would be told in no uncertain terms, where they could put their flyers! Mo.
  18. Most Tuesdays are like that in our club. There have been times when at the end of the class, I'm trying to take a drink of water but most of the bottle spills all over me because I'm shaking so much I can't physically hold the bottle still. But I LOVE IT!!!! It's even worse if my CI is away on holiday and one or two of the assistant instructors takes the class, that burn can last for days!! But the high after those classes is hard to beat, and always sleep like a baby afterwards....... Unless I'm working nights, that can sting a bit Mo.
  19. So last nights run went well, we were halfway round and going good, when the guy I run with changed the route on me. He told me it was only half a mile more but I think this was just to get me to do it , I believe it's more like double the small run (so 4 miles) but never switched my tracker on properly to confirm this. I only stopped running a couple times and those were on hills and I had a stitch. The run took around 35min and again I managed the sprint finish, well maybe not quite a sprint but definitely faster than the pace I had been holding! My max heart rate was 185 (avg 150) and between the run and class afterward I burned 1166 calories, so all in all I think it went quite well, progressing nicely I think. Mo.
  20. Welcome to KF Sampionce Mo.
  21. Sadly I can't join in the fun, having a Polar Flow it not compatible with the app link you sent Mo.
  22. Thanks Bushido_Man!! Still kind of dread the though of doing it but, once I'm out and doing it, it's fine. Mo.
  23. I am Mazzybear........ 1. I do not win competitions using the crane kick!! 2. I do not partake in revenge missions to punish those who have wronged me. 3. I cannot jump 10 feet in the air and kick 7 people before landing. Mo.
  24. Personally I've never heard of it here in the UK but, I think it's an excellent idea! A fun way of doing thing for kids who might otherwise dread their physical therapy. And if they enjoy doing it, it may even speed up their healing process. An excellent idea!!! Mo
  25. Thanks Yamesu. We have spoke about interval training too but, we are going to wait for the warmer weather and lighter nights to come in so we can get onto the nearby running track with some of the younger ones who want to come running but, we don't want to take them running round the streets in the dark. Mo.
