  1. That's brilliant! I love watching the juniors making the step up to senior class and watching their faces when the manage to do something for the first time. I love their attitude too. We have a junior who's just made the step up. She's 11 and so tiny it makes her look about 8 but, nothing and I mean NOTHING phases her. We were doing light sparring the other night, changing partner after each spar until we had a shot with everyone so, at one point she ended up with the biggest guy in class, and she didn't hold back, she kept moving forward and looking for openings. It was so funny to watch because the sheer difference in size. Her chudan kicks were at his thigh level, so by the end of their bout he had a dead leg. She just walked off the floor like the cat who'd got the cream! Mo.
  2. For me a healthy lifestyle put simply is, eating well and being active. Fueling your body correctly with good foods will give you what you need to keep active. In turn keeping active/working out/taking class will release endorphins that can help in keeping your mental health in check. Like I said, that's my view in a very simplistic way. I also like what Brian said in regards to spirituality, if you do good, you feel good, which again, has to be good for your mental health. Put all these elements into a mixing bowl and, you have the makings of "a healthy lifestyle" Mo.
  3. My instructor says a 1st Kyu should be a rough black belt in terms of knowledge and applying that knowledge. So brown belt is an important rank. Mo.
  4. How can anything be learned by anybody if he gives no instruction or corrections? How can one be sure they're doing anything right? Things have to be broken down and explained so they are understood. Next time he fails to give you instruction, ask him what he wants you to do. That's what he's there for, after all, he is a teacher. If he shouts at you or makes you feel uncomfortable in ANY way, then JackD is right, find somewhere else where you can learn instead of just going through the motions hoping what you're doing is correct. Mo.
  5. I think questions have to be asked of the students too, I mean, who in their right mind would volunteer to be knocked out? Certainly not me! I trust my instructor implicitly but, if he asked me to demonstrate a knockout with him, then, my answer would be a firm NO! Mo.

  10. CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY!!! I have known two victims of stalkers and how frightening it can be. Get the authorities involved straight away and look at restraining orders etc. They may not deter many people but, if they're broken, then jail is a possibility. Please, please get whoever is being stalked to involve the police NOW. Mo.

  18. Yep it's the Glasgow kiss. And it's definitely a popular technique used on the streets here in Scotland. I've seen many fights ended as soon as somebody uses the headbutt. It can be devastating when done properly, the nose just explodes. I think it's so popular here because the males (and it's always males I've seen using it) tend to puff out their chests and stand nose to nose trying to assert their alpha male status, leaving themselves wide open to a headbutt. Mo.
