  1. Happy birthday KF!!! And congratulations to you Patrick on running the forum so excellently. Such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Here's to many more years!! Mo.
  2. I just ordered the book off Amazon after reading this post. £3 used with delivery from the states. I've never read it, so time to give it a go, loved the movies as a kid. I think like any book to movie there's always going to be differences some huge, some small and some that leave you scratching your head. But generally the books are ALWAYS better than the movie. I was furious when they adapted Alex Garland's "The Beach" to a movie, it was one of my favourite books at the time and the movie just killed it, was so far off the book in so many ways. But I look forward to reading the Karate Kid and I'll report back what I thought when I've read it. Only 2-3 weeks to wait on delivery from the states Mo.
  3. Welcome to the forum!! Mo.
  4. Thanks guys!! Very much appreciated. Had a lovely wee day. Last year in my thirties Mo.
  5. Happy birthday, Noah!! Mo.
  6. I do it the second way. I put the label end on my right hip and then wrap. It's still fairly stiff so doesn't hang down so much, more kind of out to the side and springy! Mo.
  7. Although you may not owe him anything, I think out of respect if nothing else, you should tell him of your plans. After all he's given you his time and effort in steering you towards 2nd Dan. If you don't feel you can do this face to face, then why not write a letter? It's entirely your choice but, if it was me I would have to inform him of my decision. That's just me though. Mo.
  8. Aww!! I thought this was a cinema release, I didn't realise it was a series. And one I won't get access to in the UK. But to be honest, I'm not really sure what to make of it. I loved the original movies (not so much The Next Karate Kid) but as others have said, it ended with Johnny and Daniel on good terms, are we expected to believe Johnny has been sitting stewing about this since the mid 80's? The storyline looks like it's similar to Kreese's part III storyline. I fully expect it to be a cheese-fest, but I have no doubt in my mind once it's available over here I will be watching it!! Mo.
  9. My black belt means everything to me right now. It's a symbol of 5 years of hard work, of grit and determination and of blood sweat and tears that went into achieving it. I had to make sacrifices to earn it (like all of you would have done too) it's time away from my family, it's travel time to other clubs in other areas from mine, it's time spent in the house or gym practicing and practicing and then a little more practicing. It's only just realising that others in the club now look up to me and ask for help and direction. It's about knowing that there's more to being a black belt than just simply wearing it round your waist. So yeah, I right now I love being a black belt! Mo.

  16. I'm with Danielle on this point, being hit on the chest. It doesn't hurt anymore than being hit anywhere else. The only time it hurt me being hit on the chest was a night when I forgot to remove my body jewellery and took a direct hit. very painful but entirely my own fault. I like to train with the guys, they don't reign in for the simple fact I'm a woman, we train hard so any situation we encounter outside won't be too much of a shock. As to the original question: Is it wrong for a man to hit a woman? If the woman has done nothing to provoke a violent act, then absolutely, YES it's wrong, but I would say this is true if the victim is male or female. Any violence against an innocent party is wrong. That said if the woman is the instigator of the situation and is being violent toward the male, then no, the man should be well within his rights to hit her back in defence of himself. Personally if I ever punched a man in the face, I'd fully expect to be punched back and deservedly so. I've seen it often on nights out, women getting ripped into men because they think they're safe in the knowledge that if the man hits back, then they can play the victim card and their accompanying male friends will play the hero and also hit the first male, and it usually works, the man will just shell up and accept a beating, it's horrific. Only once have I ever seen the male hit back and straight away the female began crying and shouting about hitting a woman. Thankfully there were plenty witnesses to what she had done and all agreed she fully deserved to be hit back. Mo.
  17. Well done Shizentai, well deserved!! Mo.
  18. Depends on who I'm sparring with, with someone around my own height I'll try and make an opening with a feint or quickly lunge to see if they freeze up. With someone taller I'll block and parry and try in move in when I can. I don't think anyone is fully one or the other, it's about adapting to what is in front of you. It's what we do as martial artists. Mo.
  19. "Lesson not just karate only. Lesson for whole life. Whole life have a balance, everything be better" ~Mr Miyagi~ Mo.
  20. Congrats, Danielle!! You're a huge part of this forum and are always at hand with good advice/posts for the forum members!! Here's to another 10 years!! Mo.
  21. Not got round to watching it yet. Once I've finished this season's American Horror Story (which is superb this year! past few have been awful!), then I'll get on it. I tend to be quite slow when it comes to watching new series. I didn't start watching TWD until season 6 was about to start, so binge watched all five previous seasons in just over a week! Mo.
