Check out the weight loss club thread.

Doesn't look like he studies martial arts to me. Guy only had a right fist, not much else

Why are the splits 'ultimate flexibility' ? Just 'cause you can do the splits doesn't mean you can kick head height. I'd say water, and protein..
-
Thanks, KickChick, nice one.. =) Why do I need to attend a dojo when there is a wealth of information on these boards ? =p
-
YODA, would you be able to tell us what foods you ate ? Whenever I go on a diet I always have to eat things I shouldn't because there's no other choice.
-
Aww, come on man! I don't think anyone wants you to leave.

You lost 14 lbs in one week ? Congratulations! =)

UFC, TKD vs Jiu-Jitsu
Bon replied to TKD_McGee's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Interesting post, I understand what you mean now! So far I've only had two fights where I've had more than one attacker and I've had a few.. I'm learning BJJ 'cause no one around here knows how to fight on the ground, plus I'm more likely to use a knee on belly so I can easily get to my feet again if someone comes along. -
UFC, TKD vs Jiu-Jitsu

I really do think BJJ is beneficial... What everyone knows as 'the mount' is derived from the hurdler's mount. The hurdler's mount has one foot forward and one foot backward.. If the guy bucks, the guy can stand up and be right in position to hit the guy in the face. BAM! He'll go back down and you can mount him again. Are you saying you wouldn't like to be in this position if you ended up on the ground ? The theory ALL fights go to the ground, or ALL fights are won on the ground isn't correct, because it's very possible to win standing up, I don't doubt that for a second. But, if you're on the ground, you'd want to be in that position wouldn't you ? Don't tell me this stuff about the centreline, 'cause obviously other striking styles are meant to groundproof too, by this I mean, the fighter able to remain on his feet all throughout the fight. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy. [ This Message was edited by: Bon on 2002-04-07 00:34 ] -
Ju-Jitsu ????

What do you mean by 'pressure points' exactly ? -
It's not the place, it's the people at the place. I've been gang bashed in my very own street while drunk when I've lived here all my life and my street is very quiet. I understand too well! I was very fortunate they couldn't fight and I was able to run away from them. It all comes down to being aware of your surroundings and being prepared no matter where you are. I can't believe how I can walk behind some people and they don't even notice me walking behind them!

fast chain kicking...double round houses
Bon replied to mastertae's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Is a double roundhouse when you do a roundhouse with the back leg, drop it down then do a front roundhouse with the leg you just used in the back ? If this is it, getting that front roundhouse kick back in quickly on an opponent is powerful since they're still recovering from the first one.. that's the whole purpose of the front roundhouse -
Heh, I clicked on reply after ad's post and all you guys posted while I idled on IRC. Dang. =/

lol, ehm... Lots of cardio.. for at least 30-45min, 3-4 times a week. Eat 5-6 small meals a day to keep your metabolism up.

Whatever the mind can conceive, it can do.

Heh, pretty cool. I dunno if we'd all be as lucky as him like that though. I think that's how you gotta be though, not scared of getting hit, especially more so here. I'm imagined what it'd be like and we've played a 'game' called 'pinball' where everyone in the dojo forms a circle and hold bags.. You get one kick, then after that everyone can push and bump you with the bags. I try to kick one guy, go behind, then to side, other side and back again.

I did it twice, I got 66 and 63..

Is that kind of flexibility helpful for your fighting ability ? I've never thought about that kind of flexibility, only dynamic and the splits for show..

leading with cross--common or not??
Bon replied to CTpizzaboy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've been steering towards all my lead hands/legs because you can still develop quite considerable power in them and the speed more than makes up for the lack of power. It's always the one you don't see coming that does the damage. -
leading with cross--common or not??
Bon replied to CTpizzaboy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
For the average Joe on the street who doesn't have any martial arts training, I think it's fairly common for him to use the cross, quite a big one too! In martial artists I don't think it's common for them to open with a cross, I generally don't. A jab with the left hand is the last thing someone on the street expects .. I prefer my jab because I've drilled it constantly to develop power in the jab because it's so quick, and it's as powerful as my cross if not more powerful, heh. Prodigy makes a good point. When Mike Tyson fought George Foreman, he used his head and he realised the one thing he wasn't prepared for was the cross. He opened with a crossa lot of times and hit him, pretty insulting since it don't ya think ? -
40 lbs in 4 weeks, woah! I'd say 4-5 lbs a week would be max .. It all depends on how much cardio you do though. Eating just fruit and water isn't too healthy

Ain't that the truth, man! bench press, incline and decline can easily be replaced with weights on your back, or someone applying pressure on your back. Legs can be trained with dumbells, just do squats holding the dumbells in your hands. The plyometric exercise AnonymousOne posted is also awesome for working your legs, that can be done with dumbells in your hand. Dumbells can be used for the biceps, triceps, deltoids. chin ups can be easily done if you find somewhere you can jump up and grab onto.. The swings in the park are probably good for this.

Hmm, well I'd say more kicks, man.. I don't always think a SET NUMBER is a good idea.. When I'm out on my bag I practice it until I feel comfortable with it, or fix up something I'm not happy with.. Then I drill it a few times to try and keep it in my mind, or store it in muscle memory.

No, the rank doesn't anything to me. The belt is just a physical thing I wear around my waist. I much prefer knowledge and intrisnic satisfaction for myself than a belt to have for pretty show to others, or to impress them.
