hahaha, 5 year old black belt ? That's a joke..

No matter how annoyed you get with the principal, stay calm all the time. They'll suspend you if you get all arrogant, aggressive and hostile.
-
Lie about what happened ? haha, no.. I have been suspended for that. You go to him and you tell him the story, you tell him he came up & punched you in the face, and then purposely your shoulder which is dislocated. Say you were in a great deal of pain at this time, the adrenalin was flowing and you were so angry because he attacked you when you have a dislocated shoulder and more so because he hit your shoulder and could have done more damage to it. You then punched him in the face twice and kicked him to show him you can still defend yourself even though you can't use your shoulder and that arm. Then say, you realise it was stupid of me to hit him back, because I could have done more damage to my shoulder in the process... but, I was just so angry he attacked me when I have a dislocated shoulder and more so because he hit my shoulder & I wanted to show him he can't pick on me because of that. When you tell him what happened, tell him as if you're in control and calm and with a hint of remorse in your voice. Btw, did you do anything to provoke him ?

Sport, street fighting, and personal growth....
Bon replied to YODA's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeap, making sense now. Should have read it more carefully.. Training athletically is a good point, 'cause you're going to need your fitness on the street as well, especially the quick anaerobic burst. -

I grapple against a few guys over 100kgs, I'll give it a try on Monday if we spar. -
Kickboxing - no grappling BJJ - no striking, no weapons. That's why I crosstrain.

You should all read this thread

Why should we read it ? Pointless discussion if you ask me.. -

I STRONGLY disagree that self-defense or street fighting is a dead end. -
I've only heard your side of the story... I don't know his side.. I don't agree completely with never hit a girl, although I could never do it myself. If that was one of my girl friends he hit, I would have dropped him right there and then, as well as kept on laying into him. Always wait for revenge, NEVER go looking for it.. One day you'll probably see him on the street by himself, get him then.

Jiu-Jitsu
Bon replied to muaythaidm's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
No, jiu jitsu can be used on a naked opponent if you wish. -
I did basic stick fighting from the start.

Was that meant to be comical ? I can't really tell if it's cynicism or realism.. 'simple question with a simple answer'

Aw, I was hoping for a real math problem.

If you want to lose weight, I'd research low carbohydrate diets.. I've been on one for a week and it's working well, check out this link for some more information : http://www.geocities.com/bjj_freak

Hey, Jack. I don't have a bench either, try wrapping weights up in a towel and tucking the towel into your pants, then do pushups. I find I can add another 10 push ups to what I can normally do without weights when I do 3 sets of normal pushups, 3 sets of pushups with hands up a couple of stairs (inclined), 3 sets with feet up a couple of stairs (declined). I've done this 4 times, each time adding 10 push ups on my total, so I can now do 80. =)

Really ? Sick.. I wanna learn some weapon training apart from basic stick fighting, especially 'chucks if a belt can be used as one.
-
This seems to have gone a bit off topic from the original question. It wasn't is kickboxing considered a martial art or not, he asked how to progress from one belt to the next. Generally there is a standard set for each belt which you must be able to demonstrate competently before you can 'grade' for the belt. Your instructor generally doesn't ask you to grade unless he thinks you're ready, because it looks bad on his part to have students do a poor grading which they're not ready, or students at high levels which don't show high levels of profiency.. You then have to demonstrate your knowledge and ability at the grading to be awarded the belt. With that being said, there are dojos that hand you the belt regardless of whether you deserve it or not, as long as you pay the $$$.

Anger shows weakness of character. YOU choose to get angry. No one can hurt you unless YOU give them permission. YOU have the choice to decide whether to get angry, or seek a more rational and efficient solution. Do not blame external things for your situation, they do not help your case. In your case, you lost a fight. Not really, take it as a learning experience and improve on it so the same thing doesn't happen. Look on failure as the building blocks to success and you will feel more complete as a person as well becoming more successful at what you're in pursuit of. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy. [ This Message was edited by: Bon on 2002-04-28 21:10 ]

Your score is 34. You are Rowlf! You don't draw attention to yourself much, preferring to keep your cool and stay in the background.
-
That's a good point, a 'chuck is ilegal to carry around and it's very unlikely you're going to find a pair in your hands in a fight. Stick & knife fighting however, they should be for power and not to impress.

Ahazmaksya, make sure you're eating at least 1-1.5g of protein per pound of body weight.. This also has to be the amount of protein which can be used by the body, not what the label says. Eggs are fairly high at 100% but not the top of the list, meats are around 30% or 70%, I can't remember which ? Tuna, salmon & seafood are good. Just eat as much protein as you can..

Time To FIGHT
Bon replied to Muay_Thai_COBRA's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Actually, I'd go in tournaments regardless of how bad I got my arse kicked or not. If you're prepared for pain, then I'd say go in a tournament. I went in a BJJ tournament after only 2 months of training, I lost, but I also learnt a hell of a lot from it and I've started improving a lot quicker than what I was before the tournament. -

Dunno, I was pretty keen to get in the ring when I probably wasn't ready too. Ask your instructor/trainer. Tournaments will help to become a better fighter a lot quickly, but you don't want to be getting your arse kicked real bad either. -
Started when I was 16, recently turned 17.

That says it all.
