Yeah, baby! You wanna tear your muscle down, so you can barely use it the next day, or at least make it feel weak and fuel the body with protein so it has amino acids to let the muscle(s) re-grow bigger and stronger.. Add 5lbs each week onto big exercises such as presses and squat and a lb or two onto smaller exercises like curls, aiming for the SAME amount of reps, or more with the new weights. I find 5 sets, with 8-12 reps is awesome.. The no pain, no gain does apply here I think! The RIGHT kind of pain though, you want your muscles to feel worked, not bad pain. Always use good form over heavier weights, it's not how much you're lifting, but how heavy it feels. Heavy is a relative term, so don't pay too much attention to how much you can lift compared to others. But, saying that.. Keep a journal of how much you're lifting and and for how many reps, also what you're eating, weigh yourself daily, etc, etc. That way, when you get results you can see what you're doing right, or what you're doing wrong when you're not getting results. The warm up set is important and not to be neglected at any time!

Tips for a new starter?
Bon replied to moobrack's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Sorry, I know nothing about Ak Ki Jutso.. I'm still very much a newbie to BJJ too.. -
Worn belts are cool, I prefer my beaten up yellow belt to a nice new shiny one.

Kicking the knee. What is best?
Bon replied to Nickgarren's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Why the knee specifically ? With pretty much all of my kicks, I follow through.. -
If you had two people to pound on.....

I'd like to beat up a guy who used a girl and a rapist.. The only thing stopping me from doing it, is the consequences.. -

Around 98% or so, I don't do the UFC training yet.. if I did, that'd make it about 1/4 no gi, 3/4 gi..

Getting back mount from guard
Bon replied to YODA's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
YODA, nope.. haven't been training for a couple of weeks.. I had to work on my software assignment which was due, and I've been studying for physics which is on Thursday.. A guy just ran up the back of me today, so if I get my car fixed I might be without a car and not be able to go for another week or two. =/ -
haha, 'cause Dr.Atkins had heart problems ? It wasn't related to his diet that he's been on for years anyway.. Our ancestors ate far more fats than what we did and they lived longer.. Since cheap foods high in carbs have become revolutionalised, the average life span of people compared to our ancestors has decreased and we've become shorter and more obese.. Doesn't that say enough ? The longer shelf live a product has, the longer it stays on the body.. 'low fat' is just one of many marketing campaigns/strategies used to appeal to the population that is overweight.. 'Diet' and 'low fat' foods are no better than 'regular' foods, they're just as bad if not worse because of all the sugars loaded in them to give them flavour.

Breakfest - eggs in any way you want. Lunch - meat & salad Tea - meat & salad I admit it does get boring.. you can find recepies on low carb mailing lists so you don't get bored and go back to carbohydrates.

Many happy returns of the day, Deby!

I believe the student was humilated by a teacher, which caused him to do that... ?

I'm currently reading 2 physics textbooks, good fun!

I can't really comment on judo, I've only had 1 or 2 lessons in it. But, in BJJ you drill a technique over and over so you learn it. Then you have the live sparring, where you get to practice your techniques on a resisting opponent. Generally, a higher belt can make a lower belt tap with relative ease. A white belt could easy apply the techniques on someone who's never had any grappling experience. The guard is very different on the cement, you wouldn't want to put someone in your guard on the cement, you'd be looking for a knee on stomach or something..

Can I suggest you step into a UFC match ?

He doesn't really make any clear points, or back them up with anything. He says most of the things we learn in martial arts are useless. Why though ?! For someone with 30 years of training, that's a very shallow article. Perhaps he hasn't been able to defend himself on the streets.. I would put that down to poor self-control on his part and/or poor training methods. I could argue the things we learn in martial are are helpful. That's about the extent of his argument. -
LoL... what do you expect ? I reckon Deby has a lot of sexual tension.. I reckon if I'm not sore afterwards, then I haven't had a good workout. I love the feeling after an awesome workout =)

Guess you're a carbohyrdate addict then, or have hypoglycemia (sp?)..
-
Hiya, there's a chance.. Do you have any of the symptoms ? I'm a severe carbohydrate addict and feel really tired afte eating carbs.. so I only have carbs at night and I'm tired when I go to bed which doesn't matter.. =) _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. Hmm, I dunno if it'll work ? What's stopping people from buying black caps and embroiding a yellow number on it ? I don't like the fact you have to distinguish yourself to the public as a black belt.. I like people not knowing I do MA. I don't need to swear by any oath to help fellow citizens, I'd automatically do it regardless.. Good intention and idea, but I'm not sure if it'll work.. I hope I'm wrong though!
