  1. I think 'shoot' refers to the shoot when you shoot in, lol.. You 'shoot' in on your opponent and go for a single leg, for example.
  2. Years, huh ? LOL! You're only 15, ffs. How wrong you are. I wrestled with a guy who was doing power lifting, I thought he would have been at least 75kgs, I found out he was 68kgs! Godamn, he was strong too. lol, what kind of weight training, you fool ? Compond exercises are the shiotnitz. Pressing 450lbs might not exactly be the type of strength you're after, I still got thrown around like a rag doll though. Not sure how he fares up against someone with technique though. Here's something for you, I read that after you get to a certain number of pushups, you're not building strength anymore. I'm inclined to agree with this, I was stuck on 30 push ups for a long time. I would do push ups 2/3 times a week, then after 4 workouts using weights, I was able to do 70 push ups.

  4. Even better, guillotines are easier to apply without a gi. I've always down takedowns without the gi, so I don't really know any different. The hip toss you can easily do without the gi, you just grab their tricep.
  5. Kick high in training, hit low in fights. Generally, anyway.
  6. The hip toss is an awesome throw, it's got excellent mechanical effiency, I love it when people roll off your back! You can also control how hard you slam someone into the ground with it too, when we're practicing, we catch them, but I'd love to slam someone into concrete.

  8. You'll be amazed at how much more you learn now and want to learn. I got arm barred in my first competition which fueled my desire to learn how to pass the guard properly. I choked someone out in less than 20 seconds in my last tourney, very satisfying

  10. I did a low carbohydrate, high protein diet and dropped 3kgs of fat in one week, while increasing muscle mass. I increased the number of push ups from 70 to 80, after doing 3 sets of normal push ups with weights on my back, 3 sets of push ups with my hands up the stairs and 3 sets of push ups with my feet up the stairs.

  12. Well said, taezee. In a fight, I'm not going to wait for someone else to hit me first, if I think someone is going to attack me, I will attack. I'd much rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

  14. You can't trian your hands as well you can in boxing in any other art. A kickboxing can use his hands, but nowhere near as well as a boxer can. KoreanTiger and KickChick, you're defeating the purpose of cross training. It's like telling someone who wants to cross train in weapons to take a karate class. You might learn how to use weapons well, but it's not going to be as good as doing escrima, or pure weapons training.

  16. Jack, I don't understand your workout.. You've got chest and triceps, but the triceps get used in the bench press... Or, is that the point and you're fatiguing them as much as possible ? Bench press AND squats ? That's pretty intense, dude..

  18. From what I've seen in clips, he's at the level of a 5th degree black belt. He looks more muscley than what he is because of the very low body fat percentage, his muscles aren't really that big, but he's strong, he can bench 180lbs or so I think ?
  19. Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you're pretty well-rounded to me. Have you done any weapons training ? I like your signature =)
  20. Plyometric exercises are the bomb. Do a search for plyometric exercises in this forum, or go to google.com and do a search.
  21. Judo has strong throws, with some groundwork, good grappling art. No striking and probably no weapons training. Depending on the dojo, TKD will probably have a lot of kicks and not much handwork. If it's WTF, it's sport-orientated and poor for self defense. ITF, is more traditional and better for self defense. But then again, it might not be either of these two. Lacks grappling. Not sure about weapons training. Hapkido is a well-rounded art, it incoporates striking, grappling and some weapons training I think. https://www.kickboxing.com has a list of arts down the side and a description of the art with links to further information. You have to decide what you want out of an art though. Do you want exercise, fun, self defense ? Then you need to know whether you want striking, grappling, weapons training. Or, all of it ? If that's the case, you might need to do a bit of cross training.
  22. From what I hear about TKD, it sounds like hands are neglected in most TKD dojos. It sounds like a real good idea to crosstrain in boxing. As far as grappling goes, if you're after self-defense, you might not like grappling, but it's a very good idea to train in it.
