  1. KickChick, very good article.. That ugly prince reminds me of myself when I first started MA. I think any humane person when they get to a proficient level in MA realise they do have the knowledge and power to seriously injure someone if they want to & only do so when left with no other choice.
  2. For the most, your statements are opinions.. this is too in away, but I don't think it can be an opinion.. if you know what I mean ? Kinda hard to explain. But, you're stating this more like a fact.. The purpose of a heavy gi in BJJ is so you build up an excellent defense against your opponent. You learn to protect your neck and do other things to help prevent you getting submitted so easy. Also, training in the heavy gi is hard to move in, yes, and it gets quite hot. Again, this is intended to increase endurance and make conditions as uncomfortable as possible. Now, in a real right, most people will have a shirt on at least, and if it's winter, most likely a jumper/sweater of some kind. Do you see how this can apply to a real right ? Learning to protect your neck by wearing a gi which makes it easier for your opponent to choke and strangle you, thus building up excellent defenses. The weight of your clothing won't matter to you in a real fight, nor will the conditions because you're used to it. It's always good to train with no gi sometimes, which we do!
  3. Carrots are actually high glycemic, which are the kinds of carbs you want to avoid. So are peas, squash & potatoes, bread, pasta, etc. which are the obvious ones. Other than that, most fruits are pretty high, except for berries, strawberries, tomatoes.. but are still about medium, but okay as long as you don't have too many(if you're a carobydrate addict). You go for low glycemic carbs like cucumber, capicicum, lettuce, brocolli, cauliflower and it's best to eat them raw, getting your quanta and spending time chewing on them because of the fibre which fills you up more quickly.
  4. I've been rolling on the mats tonight no problem. I've had more energy than I've ever had before and I put in a hard hour and a half of study before BJJ which didn't leave my brain fatigued at all.. If carbohydrate addicts consume carbs less frequently, once a day (generally at tea) within an hour it shouldn't effect them. In this time, they're allowed to consume as many carbs as they want, but they should have a good balance. I'm testing this out, so for tea(bar the good balance), I just stuffed myself with pasta and meatballs, drank a bottle of coke, ate 2 choclate biscuits, had half a glass of apple juice. I didn't feel like all of this, I forced myself to eat all this, feeling pretty full at the moment.. but, not sick.. I've probably broken ketosis & doubt I'll be in it tommorrow, but it's not essential for fat loss, just speeds things up. Figured I would experiment with this diet as much as possible before school goes back to see what works best for me. If I feel like I did on the first 3 days tommorrow, I won't be eating carbs at all. But, I do know I'll definately be keeping this diet as I feel excellent and I can do a lot more mental stuff with my brain than what I could previously. I had 7 hours sleep last night and I'm not tired at all, generally I can't function on any less 9 and I always fall alseep before bed time.
  5. Welcome.. Interesting quote, I'll think about it..
  6. I was 81, then I got on the scales at a tournament and I was 82, came home and checked my scales which said 83. A lot of the weight loss is due to water since I'm not eating carbs, which retain water in the body.
  7. I just weighed myself, I'm 79 kg.. haven't been below the 80 mark for a couple of months. =) I can now do 80 push ups, that indicates I haven't lost any muscle.. I had to really push myself to get to 50 before. Tonight, I'm going to eat all the carbs I want & see how my body reacts.
  8. chh, haha.. it's a paradox, that's all(I hope)! I'm only going less than 20g of carbs until I get to 8% body fat, then I'll probably only have around 150g carbs a day. Fourth day now, I feel normal. I'm going to do a few rounds of 4min sparring tonight, I'll see how I feel then.
  9. Have a look at the Hunters & Gatheres' diet, as well as Typical diet & ketosis/insulin balance. A lot of other people have had success with these diets, I'm currently in my fourth day now, already 'lost' 2kg due to the water which is retained by carbs. I'll post more later on my progress..
  10. Yeah, 6 meals a day is right. You should eat a meal every 3 hours, especially lots of protein which is what helps rebuild muscles. I put on muscle fairly easy, but have trouble losing weight.
  11. I don't think Mike Tyson is a good person to represent boxing, the guy is an animal! He's no 'normal' human being, his ear biting in the ring proved that.. Also, when he killed someone, he just laughed. He's also spent time in prison, god know what he did in there. Mike Tyson would probably be more suited to street fighting than most martial artists.
  12. YET another post, I'm sorry but I'm really fascinated by this diet.. My grandparents who are just over 60 look and walk a lot older. My grandfather has alzeimers (sp?), high blood pressure, heart disease and maybe a few other things.. My grandmother isn't too good either.. My other grandparents are into their 70's, look and walk a lot better, you would think their ages are the other way around! My grandparents who have health related problems have eaten a high carb diet & a lot of fast food..
  13. I'm not at all hungry either. First day, I ate 3 meals & 2 snacks. Second day, 3 meals & 1 snack. Third day, today, 3 meals. I think about food out of habit, but I realise I'm not hungry and forget about it within a minute.
  14. YODA, I'm on my third day now.. First couple of days I felt like absolute **** and had a bit of a headache on the second day which sleeping fixed up and I went to BJJ in which I tired out in the first couple mins of sparring & found the rest of the training session really hard. I did inclined & declined pushups with 20kgs on my back on Monday, I managed to get out 20 out in my first set of inclined which I've never done before with 20kg on my back, then I got 10, 8 which I normally get, but doing decline pushups I failed on 6,5,4 and I'm still sore today. If I don't get back to how I normally feel within a couple of days, I'm going to be eating a few carbs before I work out. I'm feeling better as the days go by though. I just want to lose a quick 5kgs so I should be around 8% body fat. A few people don't think this diet is a good idea, but they haven't tried it have they ? I'll make my own judgement in a couple of weeks.. I've lost a couple of kgs which I think is water from no carbs.. I'm certain this is the way to lose weight though, because I cut carbs dramatically from my diet when I was 15 in the form of soft drink, make up, etc, drinking only water and I lost 10kgs playing division one basketball 4-5 times a week.
  15. YODA, I haven't looked at the links yet.. But isn't that what I'm attempting to do by going into ketosis ? Have a look at my post if you haven't
  16. I'm a BJJ fanatic now.. I originally started in freestyle kickboxing to learn how to fight. I realised how poor my grappling skills were, went to BJJ and I love it more than kickboxing.. I was in awe at how the guys moved on the ground when I first started and thought 'shit, I don't ever wanna get taken down by a grappler'.. There's a few other styles I wanna train in as well like judo & more kickboxing or another striking art.
  17. Mo_Tseu, for the most of it. It's not summer here anymore, but it's not exactly winter yet either. haha, I don't know the seasons!
  18. I'm in my third day on the diet and I don't have much energy.. Last night at BJJ I felt like absolute ****.. When we sparred, I found it very tiring. I'll give it a couple of weeks and if I still feel like this, I'm going back to a high carb/high protein diet.
  19. Singularity, how long did it take you to lose 25 lbs ? Are you still on a low carb diet now, or have you gone back to a high carb diet along with high protein ?
  20. Post on up! I like hearing different views.
  21. How long have you been training for ?
  22. Never heard that one before, but it's true!
  23. Yeap, the book is in my house but I haven't read it. I'm on one by Leslie Kenton who is supposed to be the 'guru of health & fitness'.. I guess we'll soon see.
  24. In business studies at school, we constantly get drilled about a business plan and the reason most businesses fail is because they don't have a business plan or they don't constantly review it. How good the quality of the information I'm getting in this subject is, I don't know. The most important thing would be building up a student base who are dedicated and committed. Also, you need your students to trust you & you have to care about the students, not the money you're making. If you care about the students genuinely, I believe money should be coming in.
  25. I think a 'Grand master' would have the title bestowed upon him by others and be extremely humble.
