Your friends are all the dullest dogs I know. They are not beautifull: they are only decorated. They are not clean: they are only shaved and starched. They are not dignified: they are only fashionably dressed. They are not educated: they are only college passmen. They are not religeous; they are only pew-renters. They are not moral: they are only conventional. They are not virtuous: they are only cowardly... They are not prosperous: they are only rich. They are not loyal, they are only servile. Not dutifull, only sheepish; not obstinate, not masterfull; only domineering: not self controlled; only obtuse: not self-considerate; only polite: not intelligent; only opiniated... Not just, only vindicitive; not diciplined, only cowed: and not truthfull at all; Liars every one of them, to the very backbones of their souls.

If knowledge is power, then to be unknown is to be unconquerable.

Most definately it helps personal and spirtual growth... One must remain humble, otherwise he hurts himself and stops learning, right ? I don't see this any different to when I am doing math or physics, even if there is a person who does a lower level of math than me, it doesn't mean they can't teach me something, or show me a different way of looking at a problem. We 'look down' on the person who isn't committed to training, might come once every couple of weeks or so. Same as with school I see, everyone must turn up every day and DO the work that is set as well as additional study. Everyone can do martial arts, I believe. I'm sure others of you would agree if you can do it, then others can do it too. Everyone can do anything they set their mind to, whether it be school, work, etc. It is possible to make that 'A' if you work persistently and learn where you made mistakes and what you did wrong. If you learn from your mistakes, you should get that 'A' or whatever else it is that you want. Anger is our worse friend when we're sparring, we lose control, coordination, timing and technique. No different to with your friends, others. Get angry, you've allowed that person to control you and you end up hurting yourselves and others, lose trust, etc.

Sounds good to me.. I can't get those last few kilo's off =/

I thought locking the knee out would be when you tense the whole leg, to keep it straight at full extension. The leg shouldn't be tense until the last split second when you deliver your kick anyway. It should be relaxed, so it can move faster and more freely, then tense it just before you hit the target.

Groundfighting Structure

I'm real new to BJJ, but I'm attempting to get mount or side control over my opponents, so if it was a real fight, I could pumble them with punches. Obviously in sparring I don't do that, so I try to get a submission hold IF I get mount or side control. -
I've posted something similar like this before, can't remember where though.. I had a fight with one of them stereotype 'hards', gave him a masive black eye the size of my fist and there was a lot of hype 'cause he was respected and/or feared, I don't know, but in my case it was cerainly none of them. He said he was gonna pull a knife on me and what not, and all these other people were going to 'belt' me. I **** myself in all the hype 'cause I couldn't fight, I was lucky he didn't recover from the first punch. I started kickboxing purely out of fear. When I understood what MA was about, I was hooked.. I want to be an all-round fighter, I feel confident enough with my striking against the average couple of thugs, so I'm doing BJJ and I'm enjoying it more than kickboxing and since there's only one BJJ school and one JJ school in my area, I feel anyone I came across on the street would be an inferior opponent.

I think getting hurt is paramount to learning how to fight... It's not until you take a hook to the jaw, or get kicked in the face do you really learn to put your guard up. I think when you oponent makes a mistake you should capitalise on it and make them pay, that way they're learning and you're doing them a favour. You're not really doing them a favour by not hitting them.

Prodigy-Child, why ? If your bank account is credited with money every day, but at the end of the day it's cleared.. wouldn't you draw out the money each day before it gets cleared ? Just an analogy for time.. We have x amount of seconds per day, and at the end of each day it's cleared.. there's no turning back the clock. It's just saying Make Use Of Your Time!

I don't know anything about karate.. but I do know that from doing kata with hands at the hips for my punches, when I got into a real fight I was able to punch hard and end it in one punch

I don't really know of any art that has striking and grappling integrated ? John Will thinks that in the next 5 years, they will become integreated though.. I hope he's right.

Generally you use the ball of your foot. If you wanna get mean, use the heel! REOW, I love the power you get when using the heel =)

A heavy bag is as its name suggests, heavy. So when you punch/kick practising and drilling techniques on it, it provides resistance to help develop strength and power. What's more beneficial ? Punching the air, or punching the heavy bag ? A heavy bag resembles somewhat more hitting a person too.. I'm not sure about where to buy one online.., but, generally your sports store or martial arts supplier store should have them.

I've got an atari with some kind of karate game on it. Even though it was hard and I sucked, I still liked it 'cause I got to beat a few people up before dying. I can remember spending hours playing Street Fighter II on the SNES, and I'm motivated to get it out right now. Also, pince of persia on our first computer which I have no idea what it was, only had a 40 meg hdd though.

YODA, what ?! If that's the case, then what's stopping from anyone walking in, sparring and then trying to sue the instructor and/or club ? That reminds me that at current dojo I haven't signed anything, but I had to at my last one.. I don't agree with trying to sue from an injury accrued through MA. Why does she want to sue the instructor? Why not the person who actually kicked her ? That seems a little more reasonable, even though I don't credit it any more. Seems to be what's typical every day life. People just don't want to take responsibility for their own life and be proactive, so they blame others and things around them.

That's an awesome analogy, Jack!

Everyone teaches differently, everyone learns differently. My physics teacher at school, I just cannot understand anything she explains. When I have tutoring off another teacher, it's so easy!
