importance of forearmstrength
Bon replied to mastertae's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
hehe, yeah! but, it's not always possible to move completely out of the way. I'd rather block a thigh kick with my knee then move out of the way. I saw this clip where a guy goes for a shin kick to the thigh and the guy blocks him, thus breaking his shin! Man.. it looked horrid, I just couldn't imagine the pain! -
IDEAL KUNG FU STYLE

Another post while I'm on a role! ad, why do you diss tkd and then say you'd like to get a blackbelt in it ? Sounds pretty contradictory since it's futile for self-defense doesn't it ? -
IDEAL KUNG FU STYLE

ad, I wouldn't let it get to your head. Imagine someone beats you who's beaten the 'world champion' in TKD rar, rar, rar! For all you know, I could say I'm a black belt in 2 different styles, then you kick my ass. You're not impressing anyone, you come across as narcissistic and I'd put my money on threesixtyroundhouse any day! -
IDEAL KUNG FU STYLE

How long have you been doing muay thai for ? After a year of kickboxing I feel so damn confident. I used to get into a lot of fights though, I think I wanted to prove people I could fight when I couldn't. I haven't had a fight since the last time I got suspended.. When I got into fights I wanted to hurt people, now I'm scared of hurting someone! -
I have done some very breif knife training, with a stick being used as the knife. Most people who pull a knife on you are only going to be thinking with one weapon, the knife. You have your fists, elbows, knees, feet, head. Never forget that. Also, if you end up with a knife in a fight, don't just think with the knife, use something like your feet as a distraction so you can do some damage with the knife!

Is anyone familar enough with this style to tell me a bit about it? Is there much emphasis on kata ? I tried searching on google.com, didn't return anything much useful..

I got sick of seeing the same cycle over and over again. New people come, they come for a month or two at the most. They get taught basics and stuff, so we're not doing any sparring, we're waiting for the beginners to catch up. They're not committed, a 'hard' training session and they're scared off. Heck, I don't know why I'm saying 'we'.. I was the only who reamained training on a regular basis out of the last year and a half. Time to move onto BJJ! w00t

What's the point of the story, to show off your vocab or entertain ? I'd cut down on the big words, they only expatiate where uncessary.

A kickboxer should be able to beet a boxer any day. A kickboxer can keep his distance, plus he is able to use his feet as well as his hands. In boxing, there is only a few techniques to learn really. Then, you have to start mixing them up to get combo's, work on speed and eliminating uncessary movement. There isn't as much knowledge as kickboxing, you have all this plus your feet.

Hey! That's rhetorical isn't it ? Everyone knows karateforums.com is the best!

I don't live in America, but.. Last dojo I was at, I was the only committed one. I felt held back because there was no one else traning on a regular basis. I think the instructor lost motivation too, and wasn't committed. Had classes 3 times a week, cut down to 2, then once a week! Moved it back up to 2 times a week, but I had enough and started BJJ. Everyone there since I've only just started is higher ranked than me, some guys have been training for 3 years to get to blue belt. There is a few committed ones and it clearly shows when they're rolling on the mat! I don't feel at all held back at the moment, because there's a wealth of knowledge to be gained and I can learn off practically anyone there. People do give up all too easily though. At my last dojo after a 'hard' training session, they wouldn't be there the next couple of sessions. This forced my instructor to cut the intensity down so he wouldn't frighten off students. I'm there wanting to train harder! I don't think I've been to a worthwhile training session unless I walk out exhausted and feel sore the next day. It's simple, people don't want to put in the work and effort required to get results, so they give up. One guy had been training for a year or two longer than me... He quit I guess, came back for one session after a few months, we ended up sparring. I hit him around a bit to say 'fuck you, I'm better than you now you contemptous ****, I've been here every session working my ass off' lol, not that it seems that way from what I've said! Just had to vent my frustration on the people who aren't committed.. The people who aren't committed are the ones who don't have my respect and the ones I purposely go hard on! If they come back, they have my respect, if they don't, they lose it !

To me belts are nothing too. If I hear someone has a black belt in such and such, I don't consider them a 'blackbelt'. To me, you wouldn't know if black belt held a black belt. Guy I know holds a black belt, been studying for about 6.5 times as long as me. EVERYONE knows he has a black belt too. He's probably some 20kgs (40 + lbs) lighter than me too, but despite this I don't think he can fight very well 'cause he's so full of ****! A black belt is humble and has integrity! At least in my mind anyway. In jiu jitsu though, I think a higher ranked belt will always beat a lower ranked belt with the odd case where the higher belt makes a silly mistake or puts himself in an inferior position. I always see purple belts beating blue belts and blue belts always beating white belts.

I'd probs find myself at the freestyle school doing everything I possibly could ..

Yeap... My jab, it's harder than my reverse punch and much quicker. I'd open a fight with this, since people don't expect you to open with a jab, you can even afford to be slow. Reverse punch, hook, uppercut.... This punch.. I love this punch 'cause of the awesome power you get out of.. Dunno if it has a name, but the back hand comes up high near your head, then you execute the punch down on about a 45 degree angle. Roundhouse with back leg, front kick front and back, side kick front and back. Couple of feints and combos: Lift lead hand up quick and come round with a right hook. Pretend to telegraph reverse punch, then jab. Jab, punch, thigh kick. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. It's impossible to get statistics for the amount of fights that end up on the ground. I train in BJJ, and the theory behind it is that all fights end up on the ground, or that's where all fights are won.. Not ALL fights go to the ground in my opinion, but a lot of them do end up on the ground at one stage I've seen.. I've found myself on the ground a couple of times in fights when I didn't want to be there. When two people struggle, especially unskilled they inevitably (sp?) end up on the ground whether it be to one person taking the other person down by tripping them or pushing/pulling, or one person trips and takes the other person down with them. Multiple attackers ? If you learn BJJ, you can apply a lot of the techniques standing up. So you could use one person as a shield while choking them out of something, then deal with the next guy if they still want to come after you after just seeing their buddy choked out. It's very hard to deal with multiple attackers no matter what art you do.

Why don't most noses bleed when hit?
Bon replied to Che Guevara's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Heh. I'm no doctor and I know next to nothing.. But, I'm sure if I hit a full contact fighter on his nose, I would easily break and make it bleed if hit in the right spot! I guess it depends WHERE you get it.. Like, get hit on the arm and you don't bleed, but just near the eyebrow you'll bleed like there's no tommorrow. -
YODA, point taken.. But, to be a tough macho dude, you need the mentality for it first. I'm sure I could be a tough macho man if I wanted to, but I prefer to remain unknown if you know I mean. My goal when I started MA was to basically kick some ass, and the first few months I found to be quite a burden 'cause it was boring due to stretching and damn it was hard to do those 30 pushups =) If I didn't want to learn how to fight badly I wouldn't be obssesed with the MA today.. Fear and the desire to be able to fight kept me going... Not very well expressed or explained, but you see my point ? _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. I appreciate the information guys, thanks I'll go for a run on the weekend some time.. I've only had 10 hours sleep in the last 2 nights..

I think mental far outweighs physical. With mental capability, I think you can do anything physically, whether it be losing weight, getting into the splits, going another round when your body is saying stop, et cetera. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. I'm trying to get ripped at the moment, so I've been doing some cardio in the morning before breakfest. However, after about 1min my calves are already starting to get sore.. I run between 5-15min before I have to stop, and it's 'cause of my calves... Is this lactic acid, or is it because I haven't stretched properly ? This is frustrating because I know I could run a lot longer if it wasn't for my calves, and I need to run for about 45min so I can shed off that fat and get ripped.

I'll be using a milk crate, I can already feel the afterburn.. =)

Heh, damn.. I'll give it a try on the weekend =]
