Hello I practise Kyokushin 2-3 times a week. The classes are suppossed to be an hour long but most people stick around for a couple more rounds in the ring and arrive half an hour early to warm up. So usually I'm there for about two hours. Also I take two week breaks every three months to give me time to heal and relax.

I think you'll find alot of people who would like it but personnaly I have never been a fan of the point system. The winner should be the one standing at the end of a match not who could tap someone lightly the most. P.S. That last line concerns Martial Arts in general, i'm not trying to single out Muay thai or any other disipline.

The first 6 were all white and yellow belts so I was just standing there and blocking while they tried different kicks on me. It really didn't take much out of me. Also by high belts I meant Green-Black. We don't have any belts with stripes. [ This Message was edited by: BlueDragon on 2001-08-21 16:22 ]

My last test was brutal also. After teaching the junior class I was drilled on Kata and Kicks and everything else during the senior class. Finnaly I had to run the gauntlet. Sparring everyone going from white up to black. I fought sixteen people before I got to my sensei who beat the living crap out of me. I got my blue (we go white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black) belt so it was worth it. When I got home and changed I saw some monster bruises on my shins and chest and that I had broken three fingers while sparring. P.S. You test in groups? At the Dojo I go to testing is individual.

I was just wondering what was your last belt test was like. Was it an ordeal that lasted for hours or were you in or out without breaking a sweat? P.S. Angus, I am hoping to here a good argument from you on why belts should be scrapped.

I agree with the belt system so long as they represent signifigent progress in all areas of your art. I don't agree with belts being awarded for time served or paying for the test. Also a test should test a persons emotional and psychological boundries. I think I'm going to go start a thread concerning belt tests. -
Thoughts on Mastery and Perfection

I forget who said it but I remember it was a very old and very respected Martial Arts master. He said as he was performing a simple inside block, "I believe I am finnaly begining to understand this movement" -

This may not count as a weapon but my dog has proved to be a great way to avoid a fight. Ever since a skate park was put in near my house alot of f*cks (no offence to any skateborders out there) have been hanging around my neighborhood. It hasn't really been a problem for me(potheads can't fight) but my parents were concerned about my little sister. So from now on she walks around with our Husky Simon. He weighs 105 pounds and comes up past my hip. No one goes near my sister now. -
Here's an idea. Go to different school, train hard for a few years in different styles then comeback and kick your Sensei's but.

I think the parents should be taught some respect. I am sick of parents standing in the entrance and trying to whisper to their kid that they're waiting in the car. The worst case came when my sensei became fetup with a yellow belt and told him he isn't going to get his orange belt for along time and might as well leave if he doesn't change his attitude and work ethic. The kid (12 years old) was trying to hold back tears for the rest of the class. After the class his mother approached my Sensei and tore into him saying he had no right to say what he said and if he didn't give him an orange belt soon she would find someone who would. My Sensei was furios but he controlled his anger and just told her to get out and not come back. _________________ "Excuse me while I kiss the sky" -Hendrix [ This Message was edited by: BlueDragon on 2001-08-21 10:19 ]

kicking technique
BlueDragon replied to taezee's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I love the huge spinning kicks. There fun and look great. But in a fight I've always believed spinning and jumping kicks are too fancy and leave you open if not done perfectly. When I'm fighting I like to stick to the basics and throw in a spinning heel kick to compliment a roundhouse once in a while. -

I say Tonfa. But I want a metal pair with a long blade running down forearm and a spike going about six inches past knuckle. -
Broken foot. Worn out hip cartilage(walked with limp for 5 weeks). 5 broken fingers. Big purple bruise from being kicked into wall (wall took worst of it). Tiny cut from punching bag which became infected and resulted in loss of movement below left elbow.

I have trained in both Karate and wrestling and was a damn good wrestler so I think I know what both sides think. On the ground a wrestler will win but if the Martial Artist has a brain then it's hands down for Martial Artist. Like Angus said a kick to the knee will cripple anyone if done right and if you can't walk you can't fight.

Welcome GoldDragon! Really like the name.

In my opinion everyone goes into the ring with thier own different style. For instance I started in Kyokushin (which was designed by Mas Oyama as a combination of what he thought were the best parts of all martial arts) but I added moves from wrestling and a dash of MT and boxing. This has given me an edge over people who stick strickly to one style when sparring or fighting.

For my shoulders I pick up a set of dumbells (I use 10 pounds) and start punching the air. Alternate arms each punch and do about 50 an arm. I started doing it about 6 weeks ago and my arms have exploded.

As a matter of fact I do. My team was awful. In our last game we got killed 96-0. There were maybe three other guys on the team who knew what they were doing. The rest were just rejects from the basketball team.

Kids these days have no respect. Just the other day I had to smack around a 13 year old (I'm 15) because he was hassling my cousin. As far as I'm concerned that little bastard is lucky I dealt with him and not my cousin's brother who is a damn psycho.
