This past week i had the pleasure of getting a face-full of pepper spray as a requirement for my new job. I must say it was without a doubt the most awful experience of my life. My question is this, to those who are LEO's what is your stance on deployment of this nasty stuff. As of right now i don't want the stuff anywhere near me. It seems to me that in many cases it could be a serious hinderance if not used properly.

One-Steps, Angle Drills, Ippon Kumite
Groinstrike replied to MasterPain's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That is the base of the art that MP and myself practice, it is very principle based. We find that due to different body types and skill sets that is what works best for us. I believe tallgeese has an article related to the topic of principle based martial arts. -
Agreed, also being hit in the face isn't nice but neither is a strike to the groin, if you had to choose, which one would you prefer to protect? Face I Don't Wear A Cup. I would suggest you start wearing a cup, this is coming from someone who had to get a sonogram due to the large amount of scar tissue in that area. Even if the groin is not a legal target, accidents happen.

The guard
Groinstrike replied to straightblast's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I personally disagree, i have seen very little recent success with the rubber guard in high level mma recently. It seems to me the a good top position wrestler is going to blow right through it. I could be wrong, but i don't remember seeing a fighter either submit or sweep an opponent from the rubber guard in any recent high profile fights. Im not saying that their is not a use for the rubber guard, i just think that there is slightly to much faith being put into it. IMHO That being said, and this being the combative forum, i must say that the guard is not a good place to be combatively. It should be viewed as a transitional position only, GET UP or hit a sweep and GET ON TOP. -

Groinstrike replied to Groinstrike's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Thanks Alex, Im definately trying to get myself more comfortable fighting with a left lead, this had been more difficult due to me fighting for 5 years from a right lead. Next time im up your way or your down hear i would like to get a day of purely cop grappling training. -

So my question is this, what is the best way to learn how to defend myself against an attacker without using deadly force, but while still keeping posession of my weapon. We start control and arrest tactics in a few weeks and i just wondered if any of the LEO'S had advice?

Don't Take Your Instructor for granted
Groinstrike replied to Dobbersky's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Good Stuff, Being from a small area, The Bujin Clan has been incredibly fortunate to have been blessed with great teachers. It would be very foolish to take such great instruction for granted when it is so sparse in this area. -
