  1. Our schools philosophy on the guard is that it can be a great tool, and one can become extremely skilled and dangerous from there, but we want to do all that is possible to be in top position.
  2. I believe that sparring is very important in learning how to defend one's self. If nothing else it helps develop the ability to absorb a strike, and use that as a trigger mechanism to launch an attack.
  3. The best self defense techinique is the the one that effectively controls the situation. This could range from words to diffuse the situation, to a lethal blow with a weapon.

  6. In a seriously dangerous confrontation, absolutly, better to be judged by twelve then carried by six.
  7. When it comes to multiple attackers, I believe in the three E's Escape-If possible Eyes-Attack eyes and keep moving Escalate-Get a weapon, or if they have a weapon, a better weapon.

  11. As a teacher, and a martial artist, i say no, the average student does no have the responsibility to use their knowledge appropriatly
  12. It depends, Some arts that focus on ground fighting could be detrimental if taught as a end all be all form of street self defense, due to the presence of weapons and multiple attackers. Dont get me wrong, learning to handle yourself in a grappeling range is incredibly important, but you want to stay of the ground in a street fight. imo

  14. I believe that until you have shown the responsibility to use appropriate techniques for the situation, you should not be taught any techniques, let alone ones that could cause serious harm.
