You can work plenty of techniques with a guy who is bigger than you. He can certainly work them on you too. This is especially good for you. Afterall, any martial art worth it's name is designed to defeat the bigger, faster, stronger opponent! What happened is you fed off the negative energy. So instead of having a good, productive class, you both got nothing. You must put forth positive energy. Even (especially) when there a only a few people. They will feed off of your positive energy and next thing you know, there is some good training going on. When I have a small class, I look at it as an opportunity to focus on what I want to work while giving the other guy a private lesson. What about the bigger, stronger, faster and more skilled opponent?

Yes its true, dumb training injury, i punched him in the facemask made of metal. Im dumb. -
I agree, once you get git on the button once or twice and get knocked stupid, you will get your hands up. As ive said before, being able to take a good punch is not a virtue upon itself.

Stand up is really not the problem, but when it comes to BJJ being outweighed by that much makes it very difficult to work certain techniques. Plus its not to much fun to get crushed all the time. As far as the negative energy goes, yes it is very difficult to sustain a positive outlook all the time, what is difficult is that we get into a rut occasionally with our training and need new energy to stir things up now and then. MP, no problem, we didn't expect you to get out with the weather as bad as it was. It would just be nice to get some of our news guys to show some commitment and show up every once in a while.

CLASSIC!!!!!

Just seeing if anyone else had experienced this problem, Our system consists of very few people. When one or more of those people are not present it really throws off the balance of things. A normal workout for us usually consists of 2-4 people that are, for the most part, of very different body type. For example, tonight it was myself 5'9 150, and Liverpunch who is 6'1 270. Neither one of us is able to get what he needs on the mat from the other. We were both pretty unmotivated and decided to give it another shot tomorrow. As i said, i am just seeing if anyone else has experienced such problems in trying to keep a regular core group to facilitate a balanced training regiment for all.

1/6 3:30pm-4:30pm grappling-worked escapes, triangle/armbar 20 min freeroll, actually hit a darce choke, YAY!! 7pm-9pm Cardio-followed by grappling. Worked K-control to armbar/sweep/triangle MMA with liverpunch, now my face hurts. -
As i believe the above posters have touched on, couldn't this be said about many martial artists. There are many martial artists that even though have no lineage to any significant founder of that art, have through research started practicing an art in the same tradition as its founders. I don't see how you can discredit a person for the soul fact that they cannot trace their lineage back to a certain person.

1/5 20 minutes Light kickboxing as a warmup(yeah a little unorthodox) Circuit- 45 minutes mainly focusing on abs an shoulders -
I find that certain music while sparring helps you get into the rhythm of the fight. And as a nerd, music from SF2 greatly motivates me to fight shadaloo and all its evil.
-
Just wondering if anyone else out there allows music during training sessions. I understand this may not be the case with most traditional schools. If you due listen to music, what does it consist of. Our playlist consists of everything from danzig, the who, survivor, the entire rocky IV soundtrack, various montage songs from the karate kid, bloodsport, Rocky, Over the Top etc. We also have a cd that acts as a round timer with three minute rounds of each characters stage music from Street Fighter II.

One of the first signs of the apocolypse(according to the bible) is that the dead shall walk the earth. Im just saying it never hurts to be prepared. -
Im not entirely sure what started this argument in the first place, I realize that certain training methods can be seen as unnecessary. We all have prejudices on certain subjects based on our background. My background is in combative martial arts and mma, therefore i personally do not see the value in kata, yes, i have done kata, i actually enjoy kata from time to time. But i do not see kata as something that would help me in a combative situation. We are all martial artists, i have respect for any system that someone would choose to train, hey all have their merits. All i ask for is that same respect in return.
