freestyler ,half guard is a defensive position, the guy on the bottom can't do that many submissions if any, giving the guy on the top ,so much more of a better position you don't want to keep the guy in your half guard, you would want to take the back or put him in full guard, i can't see any reason for wanting to have the guy in my half guard -

a good jiu-jitsu fighter does not neglect the stand-up portion of his training, although, judo does have this ridiculous obsession with throws -

i learned a few foot sweeps, hip throw, hip toss, o soto gari, sholder throw, single leg, double leg, and firemans carry. don't tell me there no throws venezolano is right , your just jealous that everyone is more interested in bjj than judo, a judo player can learn alot from a bjj player, and vice versa, but don't be a hippocrit, diss bjj than go out and study it , it might seem similar to you because they look alike, are judo , bjj, sambo, shooto the same of course not, than why are you saying bjj and judo are the same , there wouldn't be thousands of people studying bjj ,because bjj would not exist if it were the same or even similar to judo, bjj has proved itself, and continues to do so, when was the last time a judo player showed the world what he was made of? TITO ORTIZ IS A BJJ PLAYER, HE TRAINS UNDER MY GRANDMASTER, ANDRE PERDERNIERAS, AND IS A PART OF HIS VALE TUDO TEAM, so is chuck lidell , both these guys have wons so many titles in the ufc , name one fighter that has done as well as a bjj fighter , -

jiu-jitsu fighter replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
shin block is very good and you can counter from that position -
i have personally studied northern seven stars praying mantis and my advice to you is use your speed and tie up your opponent, tie up his arms than trip him so he stumbles, than kick his legs, what a great martial art, i have moved to bjj now, only because i like it better, but good for you mantis is great, i hope you beat those guys and stay close to them , don't let them keep a distance im sure they can kick

Questions about BJJ
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to LOILOI44's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
bjj has less techniques in total than judo , but bjj players think like this, okay, bjj is about knowing a few techniques from different positions, you don't need to know 137 throws like in judo , you need to know maybe 5 to 10 and judo is also and amzing ,effective martial art, its approach is just way too traditional for todays standards, like we train 2 weeks gi , 2 weeks no gi, don;t say judo is better thats so rude, if you don't like bjj DON'T STUDY IT , NO ONE CARES -

knee bars
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to PhilM1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
i would sugest instead of learning a knee bar right away, learn the heel hook and the ankle lock, much more versatile techniques, because there are disadvantages to using a knee bar , ( your opponent can get out and take back mount) heel hook and ankle lock are very good leg submissions -
Groundfighting Tactics
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to YODA's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
i think im a constant movement and methodical, i study bjj and there are so many combinations of submissions that flow into one another and so , if im in a bad position i want to get out but i also , want to watch out for my opponent, also i want to put him in a bad position, so i have to move constantly until I am in a dominant position than its methodical , like a chess game,u don't have time to lay there in your guard and think , you have to think fast and apply a submission fast, or your opponent will -
NOOOO, LOILOI 44 mitsuyo maeda was a jiu-jitsu and a judo player and he taught carlos gracie, the son of gasteo and than helio the son of carlos, improved the system because he thought some of the techniques required too much strength, so he changed some stuff around, thats what bjj is, go to bjj.org for more info
