small guy vs big guy?
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to Byrd12345's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i use the metric system, but i believe im around your size byrd, im 140lbs and about 5,9ft, theres absolutely no reason why you shouldn't begin to study martial arts and the reason why someone has suggested those arts is because one at least doesn't need strength to work, (not insulting judo, just i don't know much about it) i study bjj and i have defeated much larger opponents in real conflicts, bjj will teach you how to control and disable your opponent. -
i study bjj as my main style but i also train in blauer tactical systems (https://www.tonyblauer.com) i study bjj, boxing, and some muay thai

jiu-jitsu fighter replied to kickmaster's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
jkd dragon did u say ypu were an orange belt, there are no color ranks in jkd, as bruce(jun fan) created it, he instilled a ranking system using, apprentice instuctor level one etc......level 2 ,3,4,5,full who is your instructor ? -
i have defeated stronger, more skilled grapplers, and strikers kyle-san, and royce gracie defeated dan severn, antonio nogiero defeated bob sapp, theres two examples for you i have yet to see karate or tkd pull of the feats that bjj has, done in the past and in the present, and for the guy who wanted advice, do you a wheel chair, cuz than you could carry around kali sticks with you, and you would be able to learn how to use them fast

my advice to you would be to try a private brazilian jiu-jitsu lesson and tell the instructor you needs, it wouldn;t even cost much if you hired one of his advanced students, im sure they would tech you privately for cheap, try a private, tell the guy you feel your ground combatives need work and he will create a lesson plan and work on it with you -
wow what a controversial comment dafabe , but i must agree with you, as i must agree with sifu matt thorton

um your not a weirdo, but its very hard to learn techniques on your own, you see a jkd teacher will take techniques from different styles that he find effective and he will blend them together and make them work especially for you, i would stick with jkd if i were you , and by the way who is your instructor? -

Preventing that ground fight.

YOUVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE BEING SUBMITTED FROM MOUNT? HOLY S**T , ARMBAR FROM MOUNT,KEYLOCK, TRAINGLE CHOKE(with arms, suffucating the guy with his own arm) , i find that hard to believe i love being in mounted position, its just its very hard to get there -
kali and escrima are very similar if not the same, kali is a weapons based art, but there are highly effective unarmed combatives as well(throws, grappling etc.....) they use sticks to replace more dangerous weapons, for beginners. silat has forms and is a very sophisticated form of combat, i believe it originated as a form of kung fu brought to indonesia+philipines
