magicchiongson tell me a better style than bjj , for grappling, and yes it does deal with weapons, check out street self defense by royce and charles gracie, ALL OF YOU THINK BJJ IS A SPORT, ITS NOT!! THATS ONLY ONE SIDE OF IT, FIND A SCHOOL THAT TEACHES BJJ SELF DEFENSE THAN MAKE YOUR COMMENTS, AND IS A REAL FIGHT NOT , NO HOLDS BARRED, plus bjj was created over 75 years ago, when they didn't have no rules competiotions , so how bout u shut your mouth -

its about progression, not collecting techniques , personal progression is what belt promotion is about -

Your guard!
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to three60roundhouse's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
sweeps should be relatively to do even against huge guys, im only 16 and all the adults love to pick on me, so i put them in my guard ,and sweep them, if your are having trouble with your sweeps, than work on them , because they are a very important part of your arsenal, where are you studying bjj, what is your instructors name? ask your instructor to teach you more attacks from the guard, such as the omaplata and different angles to apply your armbar from, this should help alot , -
Your guard!
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to three60roundhouse's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
im a bjj student myself , i use the guard alot, i like to submit my opponent from it as well as sweep him onto his back, u can only use a sweep when u unhook your ankles in back which puts u in open guard. half guard is just as bad as the guy on top of you, either put him in full guard or get up, cuz thats a bad position, im only 140 lbs like you so take my advice -
Stand up or sit down?
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to Angus's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
learn ground stuff its good for you and you'll defreat your opponent with ease, but don't forget to practice your elbows . those work well on the ground -
Grappling Arts
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to Kickbutt's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
bjj lets the smaller person take advantage of the bigger one using ,sweeps, takedowns, submissions , using leverage, you can't argue with proven techniques based on leverage , try a class you'll love it -
im 5,9 and 140 and what i did to beat ppl much bigger than me was, i went to https://www.bjj.org and i learn a few techniques that were very basic but that were not taught at my school and i used those techniges against the big guys, work on your sweeps and attacks from the guard, and you should be fine. also remember that if you positionally dominate these guys ,thats winning to me ,because you can strike from those stable positions. and some people just have bigger thresholds of pain good luck
-
why does evryone doubt the effectiveness of bjj against multiple attackers, if you guys didn't know its got reditrection techniqes and throws like in aikido( at higher levels) also it has some great counter striking measures, i've seen some bjj self-defense stuff, its completely different from what you guys have probably seen , technique and theory, by renzo and royler gracie , check it out and bjj is derived from judo and jujitsu,

Just a Question
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to Mikie Mike's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
hey mike if u don't like all these little tournaments get a few friends together and sponsor a tournament at a big dojo, charge ppl like 6$ entry and like 20$ to compete , than have a 5$ charge for gi division. not only will you customize your own tournament but youll make some pocket cash, thats what i did, IM ONLY 16 AND TONS OF PPL CAME TO MY TOURNAMENT -

bjj has great , anti, takedowns and the sprawl isn't always gonna cut, it ,also bjj has great anti-takedown counters, the best way to learn some takedown counters is to join in on a few classes of bjj and learn them, and practice sparring against other styles, this will greatly improuve your all round skills -
so is bjj , your very uneducated about other martial arts, bjj is designed to work against people bigger, stronger etc.. and its proven its effectiveness , time and time again

KAJUKENBO HAS MORE THAN RIST LOCKS !! DO SOME RESEARCH ON THE SYSTEM THAN MAKE YOUR COMMENTS ITS EXTREMELY EFFETIVE

Any prefered takedowns?
jiu-jitsu fighter replied to Angus's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
if you use a double leg ,make sure that you don't fall in your opponents guard, (bjj guys love this ) , single leg, hip throw, judo foot sweeps are good
